Billy Sharp will be absent from Doncaster's Championship clash with Middlesbrough on Tuesday night due to the tragic death of his two-day-old son.

Sharp was ruled out of the 1-1 draw with Coventry at the weekend due to an unspecified "family issue", and it was revealed by the club on Tuesday evening that Louie Jacob Sharp passed away on Saturday.

At the request of their team-mate, Doncaster's players will lead supporters in a minute's applause before the game with Boro to celebrate the short life of Sharp's son.

Meanwhile, Rovers boss Dean Saunders has spoken of his determination to keep hold of the striker, who has been linked with a January switch away from the Keepmoat Stadium.

Speaking before the tragic news regarding Sharp's son, Saunders told the Sheffield Star: "He is our player.

"He has had a bad injury and is coming back from that.

"He is still not right and he knows that himself. I'm hoping he starts banging in goals for us (on he return)."

He has actually started tonight, and scored within about the first 20 minutes - respect.

RIP Louie Jacob Sharp

When you read things like this it really does put things into perspective. Friend of my niece lost her two week old son at the weekend as well. RIP little Louie. RIP little Sam also.

I'd love to see a referee dare book him for that.

RIP Little one.

Credit indeed to the ref for keeping his cards in his pocket, and credit to the Ipswich fans who today gave Sharp a standing ovation when he scored.
It will be nice to see that replicated around the grounds for the lad thia year.

Ipswich fans giving Doncaster's Billy Sharp a standing ovation after he scored against them, days after the death of his son. Sharp tweeted after the game: "Will never forget that moment today at Portman Road, Ipswich Town fans unbelievable, never seen anything like it.

You know what annoys me?

That this whole thing was mostly missed by the tabloid press on Sunday. A story of despair has a good side because of the quality nature of opposition fans. No wonder it was hardly reported.

Fair play to Billy Sharp, I'm not sure I could have gone through what he has with the dignity and courage he has and I hope to God I never have to. Brings tears to my eyes every time I hear or see the story.

The Bimingham fans deserve some credit as well. The side they were playing in the Europa cup have retired the number 23 shirt because the last player that had that number has died. Now when the games hits the 23 min mark they always start clapping, it was great to see all the Birmingham home fans join in.

Again, where was the coverage of this. I wish the press would print more good news stories, it might make the world a brighter place.

Or you could pretty much ignore the media?
I can't remember the last time I bought/read a newspaper.

I try to but I do like a Sunday paper. Probably because it winds me up!

Atlas (aka Asim) always says this ... but when he starts his 'good news thread' in the general chat forum, it's doesn't attract its deserved attention.

The General Chat forum is not the place for good news, its the place for moaning.

Good news doesn't sell.

The man responsible for the Daily Mail, Lord Northcliffe once famously said:' Get me a murder a day '

It does depend what you consider to be good news though. The demise of the News of The World was something that I considered to be excellent news and was all over the media for ages!

Thankfully the newspaper I buy on Sundays comes in different sections, news, sport, business, leisure etc. On days like yesterday I can just send the sports section to the bin and get on with the rest
