So to me suggests it's more than just black/white issues at play.

So this is over 34 votes in one state (400 across the state) and has no bearing on the actual end result - and the discrepancy issue has been ongoing over numerous years and elections.

You can't match the 34 votes to 34 voters. To find the cause you need to audit all the votes. Who cares why she asked, she probably thinks there was fraud having followed the news, and then jumped on the minor discrepancy to get an audit.
At that point you do the audit. There isn't any reason to get all defensive unless you knew a shitload more than 34 votes would get flagged in the audit.
It's more akin to getting fouled in the last minute. The ref ignores it, so it goes to VAR, then suddenly everyone is against VAR, protesting it, doing their utmost to not have it review the foul. There’s a difference between the votes cast and the votes counted - the examples she gave suggest human error in counting or spoiled ballot papers which meant they weren’t counted as a vote.
There you are trying to create a narrative that it means there must be more errors.. blah blah. That’s not true in the slightest - it means nothing if the sort.
It’s also one county - there is no material impact on the election result in the state. It’s not stopped the results being certified in any other election- so why now?

As I understand it - imbalances like this are common and usually due to human error like not being properly recorded and are extremely unlikely to be an indicator of any sort of fraud.
A mail in voting envelope comes in, without a voting slip inside - there you go, that’s an imbalance - 1 vote received & 0 vote counted.
The audit is ultimately to explain these 34 vote discrepancies.
