Big D vs Twitter

First para: not guilty. One of my dearest friends, the mother of one of my goddaughters, was a aide/speechwriter for a Democrat senator at one stage. Sadly she's no longer with us so I can't bounce any of this off her, but I'm reasonably au fait with at least some of what that bearpit entails.

Second para: no argument here but, with such tight margins overall, the swing states [originally typed "swong" and nearly left it] will matter and bringing these hostages home will play big there.

Incidentally Harris is reportedly going to appear with her running-mate in Philadelphia on Tuesday so I'm tempted to have a cheeky fiver on Josh Shapiro to get the nod. There are suggestions that he's the choice the Republicans would fear most.

You underestimate the toxicity of America politics.

Trump should be no where near that ballot paper with the things he's said and done. Yet almost half the American population will vote for him regardless.

Is there a country where politics isn't 'toxic'?

You make a fair point but the US is almost cult like.. regardless of policies they'll vote either right or far right and nothing will change their minds from what they voted before. Because "they can't vote for the other side". So it's vote or no vote in reality.

Then in the senate whoever is in charge will block the bill if the lower house is majority the other side. Regardless of how sensible the bill is.

Same with supreme court. Regardless of how sensible it is.. It's all a political game.

Well the voting down the bills. of the government regardless is sort of universal but I do get your point.

My sense is that US politics are stuck in the two party lock. What they need is a greater diversification of parties that offer more concrete positions. Currently if you are serious in becoming a politician you have a binary choice which is not great!

The proliferation of pressure groups and lobbyists reflect the lack of diversity in the political agendas of the two parties

The media seems to be incredibly toxic, especially fox news. It's like the s*n had a TV channel

I don't remember who wrote it but there was a book basically explaining how it's the same exact party etc - but this was back in the 90s, so a lot has changed in the parties (the extremes of both have gone proper insane imo) and society.

It seems that all media is toxic as that's the best way to sell ... and as they lose more and more share to youtube, twitter etc, it's their only way to compete.

That’s exactly what it is - The S*n in a TV format. But there are lots of other sources of toxicity too.

That being said, from what I’ve seen even Fox treated last night’s exchange with reverence and respect - maybe because the freed Gershkovich is also a Murdoch employee. There is no way they could have made Biden look bad there, so they didn’t even try. Which probably drove Donnie utterly nuts.

Recession concerns in the US were exacerbated after Friday’s weak jobs report, triggering a market-wide crash. Many pointed to the Sahm Rule Recession Indicator, which hit 0.53%, well above the recession threshold of 0.50%, signaling an economic downturn.

According to FRED, Sahm Rule is an indicator that signals recession when the three-month moving average of the national unemployment rate (U3) rises by 0.50 percentage points or more relative to the minimum of the three-month averages from the previous 12 months.

However, Peter Berezi, BCA Research’s Chief Global Strategist and Director of Research, shot down these concerns, saying, “Sahm rule was technically NOT triggered today.” Berezi added that FRED’s decision to round up “all the past unemployment rates” has led to the signal flashing 0.53% instead of 0.49337%.

However, BCA Research’s Joshi Rule has signaled recession after flashing 0.23%, well above the “Event Horizon” level of 0.2%. Joshi Rule measures the three-month moving average of the unemployment rate of permanent job losers and not temporary layoffs. If this average rises by 0.20% from its low during the previous 12 months, it signals the start of a recession.

I’m still sticking to my prediction of The Great Depression 2.0 if the Dems win. There will be a short rally bounce then followed by a sea of red everywhere.

In other news, now is the best time to visit Japan cos of the plunging yen.

The timing of the next depression will be determined by demographics, trade route disruption, tech bros marching towards morloch, and / or climate crises. Another term for the status quo doesn't even factor in.

Hence why we need the saviour Trump who will MAGA !!!!!

That’s surely gonna be the Republicans next salvo.

But first up all eyes on the upcoming Democratic National Convention on Aug 19.

Revision.

We don’t need the Dems to trigger the Great Depression 2.0. The Japanese and rest of Asia have already beaten Kamala to it.

Look at you. Do you feel smarter ?

You have no idea what's happening in the markets now and the massive bleeding going on in the streets now.

I heard tech sector is not doing well and they are REALLY pissed at the anti-trust regulations of the Biden admin and might go all in for Trump.

I have a feeling he is bored with cars now - he has moved on to the next play, but what it is remains to be seen.

Twitter turnover - $1.5b
SpaceX turnover - $15b
Tesla turnover - $82b

The only place he is moving on to is Florida, or maybe Minnesota when he catches wind of amendment subdivision 44

You could be a paedophile, have raped multiple children, come outta jail after six months or so, then apply to be a teacher at a school, declare your "sexual orientation" as paedophile, and that school would then be in quite the quandary there over whether or not to hire that sick fuck.

But what do I care. Fuck dem kids. Orange man bad. Orange man bad for democracy. Bad man. Fuck dem kids.
