Big D vs Twitter

We can only hope. We need a good culling and they've just come out and said we look safe from asteroids for the next 100 years...
I don't know if I believe that, that comet last summer (Neowise or whatever it was called) was only spotted in something like April then became visible to the naked eye in July IIRC.

Edit: I just looked it up and I was wrong, they discovered it in March. One extra month will give us plenty of time to stop an asteroid...

We will spend that month debating and deep in thought, and focusing, until we eventually are able to come up with a name that is suitably descriptive of the asteroid but not offensive to any minority groups. Then, as The Ginger Cunt makes it's final approach, we'll make one last check that nobody is offended, and then put on our protective anti-asteroid deflecting masks. It'll be fine. Just wait and see.

Don't worry, flu hasn't gone anywhere.

This will all seem like a piece of piss compared to whenever something really nasty emerges, be it from the jungles that are being chopped down or something that comes out of the rapidly melting permafrost. It'll be something that's incredibly contagious but won't give you any symptoms for a few weeks. By the time the symptoms show it's too late to do anything for you and you've been walking around the place giving it to everyone. The Ebola virus kills something like 60% of the people infected with it, imagine if Covid-19 was as lethal as that?

The thing here is

A - Will something from the jungle or rapidly melting permafrost be as deadly as something that can be made in a lab?
B - Ebola kills 60% of people infected.. If those infected people were not from some of the poorest countries in the world then I'd wager the death rate would drastically reduce. That last outbreak saw people in Europe infected and manage to survive cos they had access to decent treatment.

A- I suppose if something is made in a lab then the upshot of it is the people who made it will know everything about it and then it's easier to identify (that's, you know, if they tell us "we went and done a whoopsie"). Something from the wild that starts killing people will be an unknown and will take a while for it to be isolated.
B- yeah, you're right about that. Even still, I wouldn't fancy catching it.

I'm not sure about the upshot.
Either A - They are creating it for nefarious reasons, if so they won't want to tell anyone anything about it. B - They are creating it and make a whoopsie and think well, we are not telling anyone about it knowing full well the implications of admitting is huge for them and their country.

I think there are various issues across the world that occur in modern times, I feel like with the SARs, Ebola, Zika etc were handled quite quickly in their respective regions.
Or maybe I feel like that because they didn't affect me.

Plus - I'm just more scared of something people can make in a lab before it takes on a life of it's own and runs rampant.

If I remember correctly SARs was only contagious whenever you had symptoms, so lots of people who had it were still at home/hospital and feeling like shit there. Covid-19 has a longer period where you're contagious without showing symptoms. Ebola is a bit more difficult to catch, you need to be in close contact with people to catch it, like physically touching them etc. Zika was spread by a mossie, I think, so it wasn't going to spread outside of its range.

I present to you NIPAH virus. 75% mortality rate. Outbreaks in India and other parts of Asia have been contained due to very strict government action. The most likely vector is fruit bats. If you eat fruits that have been bitten or licked by these bats, you get NIPAH.

Started affecting people after we started building houses and farms in forests where they usually live. I remember reading a report that due to the rate of deforestation, there is going to be a loss of habitat for around 500,000 bats in Asia over the next 10 years. This means close to half a million bats will be interacting with the human population on a regular basis. Fun times!!!!!!

Biden falling on his arse repeatedly. Macron getting bitch slapped. The west is definitely finished.

I thought you would be proud of Boris standing up for average cricketers for historic tweets and England fan’s right to boo taking the knee rather focussing on his actual job.
I see a young british Trump in there somewhere, hope yet?

Hope? Hope for that bunch of walking virtue signals? I hope for their collective and absolute obliteration.

They'll just ask a bunch of dead people in the next survey, bring the percentages back down below 50. Problem solved.

I'm not sure I ever bought that the Wuhan link was a 'conspiracy theory' but did loosely agree with the idea that for a certain time it didn't matter on the source, we just had to be totally focused on dealing with it. Now that many countries feel under control, full investigation into this needs to happen and if it can be proven that this is the leak (what are the odds of this being a coincidence?!) then sanctions need to rain down on China. 3.7 million dead.
Hmm so you want to cause suffering to 1.6 billion people due to mistakes made by a handful (if it is ever proven, that being highly unlikely for multiple reasons) ? Though your comments seem to want to give a free pass to those that could have saved thousands of lives but didn't? Unlike the source that lack of action, and the resulting deaths, is proven.

We can get even further into the discussion that Covid is far worse than it needed to be because of the reticence of most nations to carry out effective measures (for example those that did have been affected the least : Taiwan, South Korea, China, NZ, Australia - though I accept there are some benefits to some of those nations from geographical location and/or population size).
Even though senior officials in the West knew of the outbreak within days/weeks of the outbreak (e.g. Trump was briefed on but totally ignored dozens of security briefs going back to Nov. 2019). He clearly wasn't the only one. The president claimed in late February that coronavirus cases would soon “be down to close to zero,” and predicted, “like a miracle, it will disappear.” By the time the president told Americans on March 10, “Just stay calm. It will go away,”

From that warning in November, the sources described repeated briefings through December for policy-makers and decision-makers across the federal government as well as the National Security Council at the White House. All of that culminated with a detailed explanation of the problem that appeared in the President’s Daily Brief of intelligence matters in early January, the sources said. For something to have appeared in the PDB, it would have had to go through weeks of vetting and analysis, according to people who have worked on presidential briefings in both Republican and Democratic administrations. "The timeline of the intel side of this may be further back than we’re discussing," the source said of preliminary reports from Wuhan. "But this was definitely being briefed beginning at the end of November as something - pandemics - the military needed to take a posture on."

BTW were these countries ever 'punished' for their indiscrepancies / outbreaks ? It's only fate and luck some of these weren't a previous Covid global pandemic.

H1N1 virus (USA)
(H1N1) pdm09 (USA)
Aids (USA, if you believe the conspiracy theorists) (an estimated 32 million people have died from HIV since the disease was first recognised).
Nipah Virus (Malaysia) - the absolute worst, no cure, kills within a week.
Ebola - Central Africa, butchering primates.
Marburg Virus (Germany)
Smallpox (Europeans - historians estimate 90% of the native population of the Americas died from smallpox introduced by European explorers). In the 20th century alone, smallpox killed 300 million people.
Spanish Flu (started in the USA and killed an estimated 50 million)
SARS - China
MERS - Middle East

Or how about the ecocide in Vietnam (USA)
The Rainbow Herbicides showered over the jungles of Southeast Asia included Agent Blue, Purple and Pink, but Orange accounted for more than half of the nearly 20 million gallons of deadly chemicals used by the U.S. military between 1961 and 1971. The cost to human life was horrifying and the large-scale destruction of the region’s environment led to the coinage of the word “ecocide.”

How about Bhopal (caused by an American company)
In what is considered the world’s worst industrial catastrophe, 32 tons of deadly chemical gases leaked into the city of Bhopal, India, on Dec. 3, 1984, and an estimated 9,000 people died immediately from the invisible, airborne poison. The final death toll over the ensuing weeks has been estimated at 20,000 and hundreds of thousands of residents suffered permanent injuries. Today, the Union Carbide plant, the site of the disaster, remains a toxic waste site contaminating the groundwater in Bhopal.

I haven't even touched on Chernobyl, Exxon Valdez (and other spills), rape of the Amazon and the human fallout of countless wars, historical and modern. Etc.

No, you said it was extremely unlikely and just a "coincidence" and quoted the stats. You denied saying this after you were proven wrong, so I quoted you saying that. Then you said see, I didn't say impossible, just extremely unlikely. Now you're back to denying it. Got it.

Haha you are hilarious Dantes. Shit raining down on you from all sides of the forum and you just crouched there under your little umbrella spewing out the same mantra day after day.

But thanks anyway for just repeating exactly what I said about it being unlikely (which as your comprehension seems to be remiss, means not impossible) but later clarified that with stats and the latest research data (from May/June). Something you are clearly unable to do because there's nothing out there to support your theorising.

And therein lies the difference between us (the majority of people on this site) and you. Most intelligent, logical people would base their opinion on available scientific data and as that data evolves therefore so should opinions. However in your case, and other head-wands on here, your opinion is immutable regardless, since you do nothing but denigrate scientific research. I gave you tons of data above but you ignore it all, because it contradicts your pomposity, in favour of a few more lines of useless drivel and personal name calling.

Bollocks as usual

I understood your position at the time. I corrected it because it was wrong. I understood why it was wrong. I understood it was not your fault. I followed your logic to arrive at the position. You probably assume I don't because I don't waste time typing it out. I blamed the scientists who presented those stats to you, and stated the correct conclusion in the arrogant way I usually do. My correction was because I am on a different level to those scientists. That's just a fact. At the time y'all must have forgotten who I am, and insulted me and lumped me in with Trump retards. That's insulting my intelligence.

Now after the link was proven, I kind of expected you to remember who you're talking to, or maybe ask about the statistics which Sanchez came close to. But no, it's just more trump retard insults. That's spitting upon my intelligence and stomping it into the ground. The notion that your opinion has "changed as the science changes" is also something I get. I know why you say it and think it. But trust me, it's dumb. You're not being a scientist, it just sounds like you are. A scientist should never have got this thing wrong in the first place. That's the point. The failure for that point to register with anyone is what's pissed me off.

The problem with relying on the science is that if you bother to read the Fauci emails you'll see how the science is guided by politics.

Science has been corrupted and some very basic well known science in respect of immunity from disease seems to have been forgotten. Only now we're seeing reports pointing out that natural immunity from recovering from Covid means someone doesn't need a vaccine.

It seems that Hunter Biden has breached FA Rule E3. I would also note that I've never seen Joe Biden take the knee. Have you ever seen him do so? Both racists. Like father like son. Until he takes a knee, there can be no other conclusion.

Just thinking about 'the science has changed' bit.

Was thinking about the first time it was 'officially' recorded in England. A student from China and his family in a York hotel calls 111.
Then a few people turn up, in hazmat suits!

Italy was a war zone! I saw a report where a Chinese guy in a some kinda homemade hazmat suit was disinfecting the walls as his sick wife lay on the bed.
No wonder every was shitting themselves.

Science changed a bit since then
