There is a difference, the BLM protests were on streets, with junctions, and turnings. The police have options to manage that without getting themselves killed. This riot was a siege, on one building. The police are cornered with their backs to the wall. To expect them to stand their ground is asking way too much. They're not fucking idiots and don't get paid enough to die for the cause. Of course they're going to step aside.

Looks like she thought it was a game and the security on the other side of the door didn't. Note to future participants of insurrection - don't climb up barricades when there is army security on the other side of a pane of glass.
