That he will Neil.

Did anyone see Rooney talking about it during his acceptance speech in the PFA awards.

He said the same, Liverpool are a proud club with history and they will be trying to win I am sure especially as they are still trying to qualify for the Europa Cuip, the crowd laughed and Rooney had a smirk on his face.

Ha ha git, can't blame him

EDIT *** oops just saw other thread discussing Rooney speech

to be followed by an equally predictable media frenzy about his mastery of mindgames, which is the greatest myth of modern management, its never worked on anybody, ven the much quoted Keegan debacle. By the time Kev took to the airwaves Newcsatle had blown their lead in spectacular fashion and needed Utd to collapse to win the title.

I have a feeling Rafas team selection will be influenced by the result of the City v Villa game on Saturday, if City win then its all over for us in terms of 4th and Rafa may consider resting one or two players rather than risk any injuries ahead of a potential cup final. That said if we lose to Athletico or take the tie into extra time its very hard to say what will happen

Either way if Chelsea play like they did yesterday we will get steamrolled

It pains me to say it, but Ferguson's mindgames have most definitely worked over the years. They've worked on his own players, by scaring the shit out of them and then being kind to them at different times, just like Clough used to do. They've worked on opposition teams, who have given ManUre too much respect too many times, effectively losing games before even setting foot on the pitch. They've worked on the media, who have given the old sod an absurdly easy ride over his behaviour for many years too long. Last but far from least, they've worked on referees and the football authorities, to whom the same applies in spades.

As for the outcome of our game against them - win or lose, they won't steamroller us. Whatever his faults, Rafa knows just how to set a team up to play against such opponents in such form. I don't think we'll even lose the game and we could well win it.

How good would it be if they lost or drew a few games against Sunderland and Stoke.....

That would shut old Mr Potato head up.

When ever somebody mentions Ferguson and mind games now one image springs to mind. 4 years ago Utd went to Stamford bridge with 3 games left in the season (i think that may be inaccurate) all week Fergie was giving it loads in the papers cranking up the pressure with the usual media love in for "the old master turning up the heat"

After about 85 minutes gone Chelsea had played them off the park and were cruising 3-0, Mourinho took this very public oppurtunity to shut Fergies mouth by walking over to the away dug out and offering to shake hands with Ferguson wile the game was still going on. Fergie stunned into disbelief offered his hand and shook meekly. The facade was shattered, since then Fergusons rants have become more paranoid and bitter seeking conspiracies in everything but he clearly has nothing like the influence he used to, he is more openly mocked now for his hypocricy more than at any other time in his career

Thats not to say he doesnt instil a winning mentality in his teams, thats by far his greatest talent, even the average Utd players never look like theyre beaten. Its why they so often win when it seems against the odds. As an interesting aside hte Utd players interviewed after the Spurs game all deliberately mentioned putting the pressure on Chelsea ahead of their game on Sunday to try and foster some nerves in the opposition, how did that go then?

Precisely, that was the Mourinhos point, what he is irrelevant.
