I know most posters will disagree with the following statement but..................

Rob Jones is one of the most over-rated players in recent years. He couldn't head a ball, he NEVER won a 50/50 challenge, he rarely made chances for others and NEVER scored goals. He was very quick and quite good on the ball but that was it - he was a very average right back.

how wonderfully mad!! the pure essence of wrong.

Which bit is wrong; how many assists did he get per season? How many goals? How many headers won? How many 50/50 tackles won? What was our defensive record like during his time at LFC?

As Vlad alludes to, Jones was hardly ever beaten for pace down the line but was beaten too often by forwards cutting inside.

I am certainly not saying he was a bad defender but I maintain that he is overrated by many LFC fans.

When asked to contribute to an article about Heysel which was being written by Jamie Jackson the conversation between the two went like this

- I'd rather forget that night. It was an ordeal. But, Jamie, why should
I help you out? I'm helping you pay your mortgage [by talking to you
about Heysel]. When people ask me for my view, they usually have to pay
for it. You're asking for my help for nothing. To pay your mortgage,
Jamie. I mean, what do you want from me?
- I just thought that as the captain of Liverpool football club on that
night at Heysel it would be good to hear your view?
- Yes but what do you want from me? If I talk to you for a few minutes,
then I'm helping you pay your mortgage and what am I getting in return?
Do you know what I mean?
- Well, I have been to Italy and talked with some of the families of the
victims and they say that the trophy should be given back by Juventus to
commemorate what happened.
- About Juventus? Why are you asking me? Why are you asking someone on
the Liverpool side? Juventus made amends very soon. Ask them ... Jamie
I'm helping you pay your mortgage. People who want my views pay.
- I'm sorry, but everyone else I have spoken to has ...
- Great. So you've spoken to people, you've got your views. You've got
your Liverpool view, but if you want mine for free, well people pay for
them."

I'll never get the half time break during the Liverpool v Juventus Champions League match in 2005.
I was in the queue to go for a piss in a packed jacks.
Over the tannoy it was announced that Ian rush, Michele Platini were doing a half time presentation.
When the announcer called out Phil Neal's name the reaction of the blokes around was pretty angry.
Booing initially, then one or two pipped up with "greedy cunt" and similar. It got pretty heated in there.
Not a lot of love around for Phil Neal, well not that day anyway.

He wasn't intentionally funny on the Taylor thing, he jus looked a cunt. Will try and find a clip when I'm home and if I'm sober enough to remember

I really don't get any of that crap. Yes, ideally, he should have done everything for free, but, compared to the most hapless journeyman donkey around today, Phil Neal, the most decorated player we've ever had in our history, is a damn pauper. I don't know about anyone else, but that seems a tad offensive. And what happens? While the creeps of this current world, the poppinjay Ronaldos and the Joe Coles and all the rest, throw away car after car and diamond stud after diamond stud, Neal, who asks for payment (what? A hundred quid? Two hundred quid?) after being pestered to go over an agonising story for the upteenth time, gets crucified. What kind of bizarre world are we living in?
