Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers believes he has successfully strengthened his Reds squad this summer and will now target players to improve his starting XI for the rest of the transfer window

The Northern Irishman and his side kick off their pre-season programme with a trip to Preston North End this Saturday, the first of six friendlies which will be shown live on LFC TV Online during the coming weeks.
Rodgers has made four additions to the Liverpool ranks already by capturing Spanish duo Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas, plus Belgian international Simon Mignolet and experienced defender Kolo Toure.
The next stage of bolstering the manager's options before the 2013-14 campaign gets underway will involve further boosting the 40-year-old's first-choice line-up.
"Our recruitment team are doing a great job behind the scenes in compiling lists of players that we can afford and might be available for us," Rodgers told Liverpoolfc.com on Thursday.
"What we've done in the early part of the summer is to improve the squad. That's something I feel we've done with the players we've brought in.
"Now what's important over the next three to five weeks is improving the team. That's something the club is working very hard at.
"I'm sure by the time the end of August comes we'll be ready and we'll have a terrific squad ready to challenge."

Well we've spent nothing so to speak so far what with the ins and outs so there should be plenty of money available without selling Suarez.

well it sounds like we were willing to spend 20m+ on that armenian lad so hopefully we still spend that amount on someone of quality, i guess an attacking player . The question is who , i've no idea who's out there and available in that bracket.

Same with selling suarez , who could we even get if we have money to burn ? .

Fantastic way to let his new signings Aspas, Albert and Mignolet know they are just 'squad players'............

Our manager talks about improving the first team as most of us want and feel we need to do.
Yet most of this thread is a moan about something.

Fuck me this place is bad at times.

Is that just an open to interpretation way of saying we'll improve the team over the course of pre-season? Or is it definitely intimating that we're looking at some big purchases...

And people say im the negative one 😉

Its great news and i'm hoping those signings will be in midfield and defence. Glad to see that we're gonna have a busy summer. Starting to look forward to next season now.

It's difficult to think of any top players worth getting excitd about who would join us. Depressing but shows how important CL footy is. It's gonna take a gamble to pay off for us to make the leap into the top 4.
