Benteke - BOOOOOO the puns

I'm wondering if results go against Rodgers before the turn of the year, would FSG wield the axe or will he be given (another) chance of a full season to work things out?

[article=http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/jul/19/liverpool-agree-deal-christian-benteke-aston-villa-transfer]It is understood a satisfactory conclusion has been reached in those discussions with Liverpool believed to be paying half the fee up front.

The 24-year-old will now undergo a medical, which is likely to take place on Monday evening or Tuesday morning,

As a result Benteke will not be joining his new team-mates for the remainder of their tour, with the squad due to fly to Kuala Lumpur for a match against a Malaysia XI on Friday after Monday’s friendly against Adelaide United.

Ayre stayed up through the night in Australia to thrash out the final terms of the deal, in which Liverpool will pay £16m up front with further payments over the course of the deal taking it up to the full £32m.

Dr Andy Massey will now fly home on Sunday night from Adelaide to London where the proposed medical will take place.[/article]

Andy Massey, for those who may not know, is a doctor at the academy who's been filling-in with the first team for the past few months until a new senior doc is finally hired. Why it's taken so long I really don't know.

I'd hope they take our early season fixture nightmare into consideration, regardless of any fan sentiment etc. It's got to be a factor in things. Having backed Rodgers with the backroom clearout and seeming power over new player targets, they might as well give him the season to prove his point.

I had been wondering who they were referring to when other articles have been saying the club doctor was flying back!

Oh, and only paying £16million upfront is pretty decent, hopefully we can tie up lots of the value in those infamous add ons.

Striker Christian Benteke is due to have a medical at Liverpool after they reached an agreement with Aston Villa over his £32.5m transfer.

The Reds' club doctor will now travel to the UK from the team's tour of Australia to complete Benteke's medical in the next 48 hours.

However, the 24-year-old Belgium international will not join up with his new team-mates on the tour.

Benteke joined Villa from Genk in 2012 for £7m, scoring 49 goals in 101 games.

Liverpool made a move for the striker after receiving funds from the £49m sale of Raheem Sterling to Premier League rivals Manchester City.

Benteke, who still has two years left on his Villa contract, scored 12 goals in 12 games last season to help Tim Sherwood's side avoid relegation from the top flight.

I don't think that's what it means.

We pay £32.5m regardless - we just don't pay it up front - which I'd imagine most teams don't.

I think you're right, Steve. There won't be any add ons due to that lovely release call, it's 32.5 million and that's it

From the Echo, completed aside from his medical:

Christian Benteke is set to undergo a medical ahead of his £32.5million move to Anfield after Liverpool FC reached an agreement with Aston Villa over payment terms.

Since triggering the release clause in the Belgian striker's contract on Thursday, Reds chief executive Ian Ayre had been locked in talks with Villa counterpart Tom Fox.

Ayre worked through the night in Adelaide in order to wrap up the transfer and the structure of the deal is now in place.

Personal terms with Benteke have also been agreed and Liverpool's club doctor Andy Massey will leave the tour tonight and fly back to the UK from South Australia.

Massey will conduct Benteke's medical in London on either Monday night or Tuesday morning.

Brendan Rodgers has decided not to fly Benteke out for the final leg of the tour in Kuala Lumpur. Liverpool play a Malaysia XI on Friday before returning to Merseyside.

Instead Benteke will train at Melwood with Brazilian duo Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho, who are due to report back for duty on Wednesday following their extended break after the Copa America.

Benteke and Firmino are both likely to make their debuts in the Reds' friendly against HJK Helsinki in Finland on August 1.

I'm not so sure, Dan. I can see FSG balancing that admittedly eye-popping early season fixture list against our abject failure last season to maintain anything even close to the momentum we should have kept from the season before, plus the fact that Rodgers failed to meet his target for last season of a top 4 place. If we're playing well but not quite in the top 4 by Christmas he may get the rest of the season, but I don't think he'll be allowed half a season to get us up and running properly (which he's always needed up till now) nor would I quarrel with that TBH.

Unless we're really underperforming I just can't see it Jules. They've shown a real sign of intent to back Rodgers at a point when few would have complained had they binned him in the summer - they have to see it through at least until next summer. Moreover, if there's any sense to the FSG policy of developing youth, they'll take into account that this is a team that is growing together and the fruit won't be seen for a season or two yet.

Given the above and, again, the horrendous early season run of games, I reckon they'll be delighted with top 6 before Christmas with hope of a second half push (as seems Rodgers way anyway).

To be fair to Benteke I don't think it was entirely his fault as Rodgers clearly played him out of position at times and misused his strengths as a striker.
Yeah, I thought Benteke was rubbish for us last season. Worse return than Mario. That's saying something.

Anyway, I'm made up we look like signing a proper striker and he will be our top scorer next season for the next 3 years at least if fit. End product is what we've been crying out for

Sturridge might have something to say about that.

What, if some day or night a demon were to steal after you into your loneliest loneliness and say to you: "This life as you now live it and have lived it, you will have to live once more and innumerable times more; and there will be nothing new in it, but every pain and every joy and every thought and sigh and everything unutterably small or great in your life will have to return to you, all in the same succession and sequence -- even this spider and this moonlight between the trees, and even this moment and I myself. The eternal hourglass of existence is turned upside down again and again, and you with it, speck of dust!" Would you not throw yourself down and gnash your teeth and curse the demon who spoke thus?

P.S. Liverpool have agreed to pay Villa the money and Benteke is set to have a medical. Again. And again. And again and again...

We had triggered the clause on friday and agreed on payment structure on sunday.

Half the the fee to be paid up front, which could mean we have monies for maybe one signing.

Regardless of when the fee is paid, I'd imagine it would all be accounted for in this years budget.
