The problem with Benteke's release clause is that its high enough to constitute being overpriced yet within reach if we REALLY wanted him.
If he does come in, where does it leave Sturridge? Granted, his injury record means he can't claim to be indispensable. However, if he stays fit, he would be our best striker and so you'd pick him first. Yet, if you're spunking £32m on a player, you'd be wanting to build the team around him, which would mean a different set up.
I'd be a lot happier if we got Benteke if we'd at least publicly failed in trying to get some better high profile targets in first. At the minute, it just seems like Benteke is all we're aspiring too, and it rings alarm bells (again) that Rodgers' ceiling on identifying talent is too low.
