In the last 2 years we've spent around the same that Barca have spent in the last five years Bunnyman.

Where do you get your facts Ross?

That surely can't be right.

To name a few signings off the top of my head just in the last two years - Ibra (40M), Alves (25M), Chiggy (20M), Henry (15M), Keita (10M), Caceres (10M), Keirrison (10M) and so forth.

That's more than we've spent.

LOL

Obviously the site i went on to check that out isn't the most comprehensive then.

None of those are mentioned in Barca transfers.

All I want is an apology for his continual selection of Lucas.

Regarding Aquilani, most managers have at one stage or another bought a sicknote dud like Woodgate, Hargreaves, Ashton, Dyer, Rosicky (sort of), it was a mistake but as mentioned above not as big a mistake as to believe Lucas is good enough for LFC.

How much have you profited from the selection of Lucas ?

Hahaha, good point, unfortunately I have only lost one bet whilst betting against us this season in matches that Lucas starts (game against the Blueshite when Kyriakos got sent off).
Honestly I'd rather the points than the money but if Rafa persists with his selection I might as well profit from it.

Clearly he pulled them out of his arse. 🙂

Yes indeed. It's the one thing above anything else (along with Insua) that makes me want him to fuck off immediately, because nobody else on the planet thinks Lucarse is good enough to play for Liverpool (apart from O'Tomkins).

So it is the clearest indication that he is fundamentally flawed as a manager, and also possibly a bit mental.

There's a shit load of people jumping on their own agenda's on this thread and reading/hearing what they want to.

I'm far from Rafa's biggest fan these days but for Christ's sake.

The thread is about Rafa making mistakes Mark so it's quite understandable if posters want to air their views as to what his mistakes have been even though in the case of Lucas these views have been aired quite regularly.

Well they've all been aired enough times, they've been done to death, and what kicked it off was people jumping to conclusions and seeing what they want to see, as per. The thread was about Rafa's comments to the press and a few frank admissions, which even if they were slightly veiled, are something fairly unprecedented and certainly worth talking about more than how shite Lucas is, for the zillionth time.

He don't get it though.

Which of course makes it even more of a classic.

Absolutely spot on Mark.

I must admit though I did find Ross' argument about us spending more than Barca over the past two years rather entertaining.

Just imagine the meltdown had Rafa substiuted his star striker after an hour, went on to lose a vital tie and aggravate the strikers injury at a crucial time in the season.

Just like, er, er, Ferguson last night; but not a peep.

Double standards.

I think a change of Manager is needed at our club but Benitez can't catch a break at the moment hence his point:

“Every manager makes mistakes,†Benítez said. “But you can see the difference — at some clubs you can make two or three mistakes of £15-20 million every year and nothing happens; here, because of the situation, you can make a substitution and we can be talking for one week about the end of the world.â€

He's right to say he has less room for mistakes and money hides a lot of errors. His limitations, the players frustrations and a seemingly indifferent board means we are in trouble and it'll only improve when someone has enough belief to invest. Benitez is now part of the problem and should move on but it'll take more than his departure.

This idea that simply getting in the new 'Messiah' and everything will turn around is laughable.

There's a lot of truth in that Jexy. But despite our problems, we do still have some very good players who have drastically underperformed this season.

Jexy, I know you love Rafa but the Torres decision was ridiculous. At this stage, with every point crucial you have to take risks, and once again over caution in one way or another potentially cost us.

I'm sick of people talking about how the board have held us back. We've spent a fair whack over the last 5yrs, regardless of the issues last Summer in the transfer market (and we still spent £40m gross on two players alone to replace Alonso and Arbeloa, that's more than twice what we spent on the departees in the first place!)

Quibbling.... there's a crucial difference. Torres was tired, Rooney injured that's why there wasn't that a big hoohah. To say the situation's the same is being disingenious. While I do agree there's a bias towards Whisky Nose and against Rafa, there are better well-documented examples of this. I do understand Rafa's idea of substituting Torres but of course it would have been easier to swallow the decision had Wash made the most of his chances. BTW, Purple was horrid in this game.

It is quite simply isnt it? If you are on a limited budget you do a small check on your investments?

You want a hard working, back tracking wide midfielder who is good a closing down opposition and support your full back Ergo you buy Ryean Babel for 11 mill pounds. Why on earth do you do that?

You want to build on last years good season, sell your midfield maestro, and get stuck with a half broken, injury prone, difficult to work with Italian who will need to adjust to the premierships quick style. You spend your whole fucking budget on this guy without knowing anything about him. How fucking stupid is that?

Double standards? Not really. When you've made as many correct decisions and won as many trophies as Slur Alex has, you tend to get the benefit of the doubt more often.

It's quite simple.

Yeah, I love him so much I want him to move on as I've said numerous times. I didn't agree with his decision to sub Torres either but the fact remains that his errors can't be covered up by expensive backups which was his point. We see United bring on Berbatov or Chelsea bring on Drogba (as they did last weekend) and we see Arsenal sustain injury to their front line players and begin to struggle. It sickens me to say it but as in any walk of life if you throw enough money at a problem it generally goes away.

How long would you have you given him (Ferguson) to get things right (with all the backing he had) when he started? The six years he had or would you have called for his head beforehand?

Double standards.

That would depend on how many think Rafa's going to go on a nine Premier League winning rampage.

No one?

I wonder how many Mancs thought they'd win 1 League title let alone more in 1992?

Perspective is all.

Nice sidestep but I think we both know the answer.
