Barca - Real

I suppose the great thing about not liking either team much is that I can take some pleasure in watching Mourinho getting twatted.

The ref looks like a cross between Nic Cage and Manuel from Fawlty Towers

I just had a vision of Nic Cage ringing Manuel to tell him he had shagged his granddaughter.

I still quite love Alonso
Me too and it's very sad seeing him play for someone else.

Xavi is a majestic player. Yes everyone knows he is great but I still feel not everyone realises just how good this guy is.

Ramos has gone from likeable to twat within few weeks. Hope he gets a long ban here. It's the Mourinho effect.

Barca are unreal to watch on days like today.

Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow.

Any chance of Pep coming to Anfield in the summer?

I know the answer is no.

And that is how the game is supposed to be played, truly the most enjoyable game I've watched in so long.

Poor the Ramos though

wowzers, stunning stuff from barca, and a thorough humiliation for that uber-prick mourinho.

happy days.

it's got to be said as well, that this run of barcelona's since 2004 is the best club side i've witnessed, and by quite some distance. what a time it must have been to have supported them, they've truly been absolutely superb.

That was pure sex. I fucking hate Real Madrid and always enjoy seeing Mourinho humbled.

I can't quite grasp how anyone can hate this Barcelona side. Petty hates and being dead hardcore aside, this is one of the best sides in history on show and it's a pleasure to watch them.

The league is far from over though. Real have been brushing teams aside, so it could still end up being their year. Hope not though.

Puyol and Valdes running 40 yards after each foul to get a Real player booked did make me despise them (the two players, that is). In fact, most of Barca's defensive players are cunts. Alves - diver. Busquests - simulator/exaggerator. Puyol & Valdes - Dreadful professionalism. Mascherano - Mascherano.

But apart from that, I agree with the rest. Their attacking players are a joy to watch and I admire the way they work off the ball, pressing teams high up the pitch into mistake as soon as they lose. They are a complete team.

That was a little uncharacteristic of Puyol, but I don't really like Valdes either. He likes to get involved a little too much. Alves has actually toned things down since arriving at Barca I think - he's nowhere near as bad as he used to be these days. Anyways, you're always going to get this stuff going on in a game like this.

Thrilling game from start to finish.

Some of the football Barca was showcasing was spectacular.

I just saw the MilanKakaBaros highlights and Barcelona did look amazing. The fourth goal was terrific. Ramos made a complete cunt of himself.

Few points

1, Xavi is a genius, the guys footballing intelligence is probably the best in the world

2, Barcelona put in one of the best performances i've ever seen

3, Guardiola deserves alot of credit for the way he has them playing, yer he has the players but, he has them playing in a style that is quite simply stunning

Messi's pass for the 4th goal is, quite simply, one of the best passes I've ever seen. Majestic.

Reminds me of Peter Beardsley's pass into Aldo's path for our 2nd against Forest that magical night. Only it's not quite as good.

Hahahaha, this tweet from last night is excellent;

In a mock Tudor house in Blackburn, a man bites from a meat pie watching Barca. He turns to his wife + says: 'we'd be six up if I were boss'

Droylsden 1-1 Leyton Orient. It wasn't a replay as I thought it was their first meeting. Fucking freezing but great pitch-side vantage point and a decent game. 200 Orient fans travelled up for the game from London in freezing conditions instead of staying down saff and watching El Classico - big respect.

I thought Nando's swivel scoop pass into the path of Maxi vs Spurs at the weekend was right up there. Not the Hollywood ball or the slide rule defense splitter but great thinking and execution. Too bad Maxi didn't finish, would've been replayed for ages.

Like I said, I find emotional investment hard to understand when there are no obvious connections
It's the same as millions of LFC fans around the world, there is no obvious connection why someone who lives in Malaysia would have with LFC but they do.
There are loads of people on the forum who are the same, including myself who have not been to Liverpool and have no connection but still have emotional investment.
Missed this.

There isn't an obvious connection, no...but I think Brendan's point is that it's a bit hard to have any real emotional connection for more than one team, especially when the one team is Liverpool.
29 years and I still don't don't have place for a second team.

Though I did have a tiny soft spot for Spurs before they were good; and an even tinier spot for Sampdoria.

PS:

Fuck Barca.
Fuck Real.

Fuck the lack of an asteroid.

My sentiments exactly.

Second teams? Pah!

I could never understand the logic of second teams but my love of football is all encompassing and to that end I can thoroughly enjoy watching Bury V Oxford United without having an emotional tie to either. I would rather watch such a game, if it was a league or cup match, in preference to watching Liverpool play Barca in a friendly game as for me there needs to be a competitive edge and I hate friendly matches.

I can't walk passed a football match in a park without stopping to watch and will sometimes watch the entire game.

I'm the same; in all honesty the only matches I really enjoy are the ones where the result means nothing to me.

But having an emotional attachment?

Zero chance.
