So will he get his chance now Kuyt is out? Just reading through a few articles and they suggest that something may have happened at half time in the Trabzonspor match, hence the substitution. He probably tried to 'tweet' about his goal. Anyway, what's Ryan's chances, and will he prove us wrong?

Nah, nothing to bash.

Just another average player bought at a high price and who'll never justify his transfer fee.

His substitution did seem very abrupt given his last touch was a lovely goal.

It's yet another last chance for Babel. I dunno why, maybe it's ignorance on my part, but I still think theres something there. Please do something with your abundance of talent Babel.

babel said that he was told before the game he would only get 45 minutes regardless, because torres was going to get the other 45 minutes.

Didn't Babel say that the Torres sub was pre-determined?
[/quote]

Didn't see that. Anyway, I think he can still do something for us. I just wish he had the belief to go down the wing more, rather than cutting in all the time. He has the pace to bother any full back around.

babel's problem is there is just no consistancy to him, when you write him off he'll turn up with a brilliant lyon goal and when you say he can't finish he'll turn up with a trabzonspor goal.

anyway, as I said before I would keep him because of his ability to change games even if he himself doesn't directly score or assist its often his unpredictability that creates the chance or space for others, for instance in fulham game where we needed to score to keep the pressure on manu, deep into injury time it was babel's direct run into the heart of the fulham defence that created the opening for gerrard who in turn passed for benny noon.

ho hum, what ever happens this season with babel, happens.

I've said it most early Seasons so it's got kind of hollow rung to it by now, but I REALLY believe DJ Babel could turn out to be an asset for us this coming Season.

There's something about him - whether it's his attitude or greenpurple aura I can't say - that gives me the impression that he somehow thrives the more under Roys guidance.

I know it was only a testimonial and all but the way he sprinted past Everton defenders was very encouraging to watch.

I'm yet again a Babel-fan.

Babel (the idea) is a lot better than Babel (the player).

Raw materials are there, but the guy's problem is mental. He just doesn't have the desire or drive to be one of the best. He's content with making a living from the bench and getting the odd chance of exposure, to enhance his rap career.

I've given up on him.

babel really should be further along than he is as he has the tools and the attributes.

true, but there are moment when he does display intelligence, like the trabzonspor goal where he peals off the shoulder of the last defender, opens his body and clinically finishes.

Yeah, rare moments.

Who knows, if Roy can instill some game intelligence (i'm not one of those who think it's all natural) and confidence in the lad, then he could a useful player. But again, I just don't see the desire, drive or hunger on Ryan's side of things, for him to ever be any good.

He tweets like he thinks he's a superstar and has already 'made it'. (and sometimes plays like that too)

I think the fact that Roy put Ryan on a helicopter to London on deadline day, tells you all you need to know about Roy's opinion of Ryan

Touché

Well, if the definition of 'making it' is making a pile of dosh then the legend is probably Winston Bogarde.

Babel has a lot to prove if he wants to be thought of as a footballer.

It's been the same every August/September since his first season, a bunch of people claiming "this will be his season", he will finally "fulfill his potential" etc.

Unfortunately for us Ryan Babel will never become a top player, the best we can hope for is an impact sub with the odd moment of brilliance

No! I need a better example. Basically Ryan was put on a helicopter going to London at 3pm on deadline day, and told to sign for Spurs, West Ham, anyone, but not to come back until he had £9 mill in his pocket so we could use it to sign Carlton fucking Cole.

He didnt manage it so he came back on the train.

the alonso example is pretty apt as the only reason he wasn't sold was juve refused to play (the pittence) we were asking for.
