Avram Grant wants to remain as Portsmouth manager - but only if he can stick to running the team.

Avram Grant wants to keep his focus on coaching the team

Grant, who will lead Pompey into the FA Cup final against former club Chelsea on Saturday, has presided over a season that brought relegation in the wake of a nine-point deduction after the club entered administration with spiralling debts.

They could yet face further punishment in the Championship with their financial problems still a major cause for concern.

Grant's own future has been a topic of debate for some time, and while he admits he could leave, he is hoping to stay.

Asked on what his message to the club's fans would be, he told Sportsweek: "Tell them that I love them and I love the city. It's a love story.

"If I can work like a manager of football, and only a manager of football and not like this year, when I needed to be a manager of football and many, many other things...

"I don't know if you know. I was a financial man, I was a lawyer, I was many other things. This I will not do one season more. I don't think it is a good idea, not for me, not for the club.

"But I want to think positively, I want to think everything will be okay. But people don't know what it is to work under the pressures we have had this year.

"Even though I know everybody has sympathy for us, they don't know what it is to come day by day and don't know what is the problem. When you come in every day and you don't know anything, I don't want it to be like this."

half-decent manager? I know i'll probably be lynched if he could be Rafa's replacement. No worse than Hodgson, O'Neil, etc? But before you get all worked out, plenty are on the Rafa out, the top coaches aren't gonna come, and we're fucking skint.

Anyway, Pompey's fans love him.... long time.

I dun dig kosher food, Brendan.
Ticks all the boxes eh? Managed club reasonably well with no money for transfers, having to sell off players without adequate replacements, deadpan motivator news conferences, Vadar figure of fun, manage big club and 'almost' wins something, sex scandal example for his players, etc.
What a shitty year ahead it could be. Might as well, take the medicine now.
