We gave him a chance to boss the midfield in the DM role last season and he didn't, looking far more comfortable in the back 3.

Henderson/Milner are extremely likely to be the two 'advanced' 2 CMs in the 4-3-3 system that Brendan craves, leaving Emre an opening at DM. I would hope we get Illarmendi as a more efficient screen, with Emre getting a chance in Milner's position. Squad depth at its finest!

What is going on in this photo. The guy in the Chelsea shirt seems totally oblivious to the fact there's a PL player with a massive snake around his neck. And it's in a clothes shop? That's got stools at the till?

Zlate are you thinking about Illarramendi or another player? He's played 90 games in the two seasons he's been there....

Firmino has some rather tragic ones on his knuckles, he should take a leaf out of Aggers book and get them covered to say YNWA

I don't know where you pulled 90 games, but you mustn't be talking about Illaramendi. A lot of his appearances have mainly been as a substitute at Madrid.

I have watched him play, he's an intelligent footballer, which is probably why Madrid spent 32mill on him. I'm not against signing him at all, just curious to why people rate him much higher than giving Emre Can a chance in that midfield position.

I'm all for signing him, he's quality, but I think we should put our faith in Emre Can. His main position is midfield. He filled in, in defence due to a lack of quality we had. People forget he's young and it was his first season in Epl.

He's played 90 games for them in 2 years, starting 11 league games last year and the 15 the season before. Let alone about the other 20 games in cups etc he's started. I'm not sure how that's classed as not being able to see enough of him to see if he's regressed or not. If you watch any of la liga, you'll have seen plenty of him since he's been at Madrid.

If we are going to play with 3 CMs than I think having 5 (Can, Milner, Henderson, Lucas, Illarramendi) provides good depth and options. Milner, Henderson, Can can play any of the roles. Lucas does not do well further forward, not sure about Illarramendi.

But., I like this move. And, Joe Allen (who I like) is sold to Man City to fill their British Homegrown quota. Done.

Though, it's a homegrown quota but they can come from anywhere, not just England. As in Gael Clichy is considered homegrown but I'm not entirely sure Joe Allen is. Someone else may know.

There isn't really a homegrown quota though. You don't have to have them.
