I usually fox+ the midweek games and watch them in the morning, the carling cup is really not worth being exhausted in work all day!

6.45am kick-off isn't too bad though, can't you get up for that?

I'm in Radelaide this week actually, so it's 6.15am for me. Joy.

Would anyone take the carling cup, third place and the mancs not winning anything this year?
The Carling Cup is a heap of balls, and I've no interest in us winning it.
I think that's bollocks when we haven't won a trophy for three years. I really hope Rafa doesn't pick Plessis and Spearing, because I could see Arsenal's youngsters dominating the whole match if that's our CM pairing. Lucas has to play, even if he is knackered. Personally I wouldn't pick Degen and Dossena either, but I have a feeling this will be the team:

Cavalieri

Skrtel - Zorba - Agger

Degen - Lucas - Spearing - Dossena

Babel - Wash - Voronin

Bit of a dog's dinner, but so was the team he chose against Sunderland. I'd expect Aquilani to play the last 20 mins or so, and maybe Torres too, just to sharpen him up a bit.

Isn't the Greek injured? Or did that turn out to be a false alarm? I didn't really care enough to keep up with it at the time

He is indeed, as is the fat Italian.
I didn't realise Dossena was injured. Are you sure he's not just listed somewhere as 'unfit'?

On a couple of levels that would just be the norm

The carling cup isnt all that bad to win, gives the fans a trip to wembley, plus gets the players in a winning mentality early on in the season, its still a piece of silverware regardless if its deemed shite.

Yep. After three trophyless years a Carling Cup win would be very welcome.
Just because I want us to win it doesn't confine my ambitions for winning more this season.

I can't see him playing a strong team and with Mash, Gerrard and Aquilani not starting this game is a write off as far as im concerned

they'll turn us over playing pretty pinging football in front of an expectant crowd. I suppose if we have Kuyt and Aquilani on the bench to come on later we might be able to take it to extra time

Seen too many of these kind of games, they're very predictable especially if we have a weak/unmotivated team out there at the emirates, they will get slaughtered

A few first teamers and some fringe/young players is probably the way to go

It means we can rest our key players while at the same time preparing some of the squad players for being able to step into the first team when required for more important games.

Just throwing in a load of squad and youngsters and hoping for the best helps noone really as its not really like playing for the first team.

Couple of posters in other boards have been reporting the same lineup. Looks a bit weak.
Pacheco has been called up for some Spain U 20 game. So he is not in the squad.

Traore is apparently out and so is Wilshere, not that they would've made a hell of a difference but we shouldn't have much problems getting past these.
