Can I just say that both Clichy and Rafael has looked equally suspect when defending for their respective teams of late?
Young full-backs , especially the attacking-minded ones which we crave, will make mistakes defensively along the way and a lot of them too. All that matters to me at this stage is how Insua bounces back on his bad showings and continues to improve his play.
I think we've seen enough to determine that he is actually improving. Apart from the Arsenal game where I reckon he looked mostly poor he had just had a good run of three or four games where he looked an asset for us.

And that sums it up perfectly.

No, with respect to two posters whom I rate, it does not. Some of the more extreme criticism JAR has shipped at times over the years has been daft and it's certainly true that JAR's supposed replacements have not turned out to be improvements on him, so I was actually one of those who weren't averse to the idea of JAR coming back when there were press rumours to that effect earlier in the season. Doesn't mean all or any criticism of him is unjustified or disloyal or whatever.

I don't think it's any coincidence that Insua's form improved when Riera returned to the team. He seems to benefit from having a genuine wide player ahead of him, particularly one who will provide a bit of support when we're under the cosh. Riera was inexplicably dropped for Arsenal and Insua had a shocker.
