Oh, skrtel was good too.

I like spiders hatred for insua, after his "faster than clichy" stance last season. At least he admits his faux-pas I guess 😉
I swear when insua first came into the team, I can't remember against whom, I remember him out pacing someone and crossing. the person he out paced must have been stuck in tar, that fast bastard is slower than lost.

Er, I dunno; I like lots about him - or I did last year - but he has had a pretty awful season so far

Thing is, I don't really have a favourite 'type' of defender as a default fall-back (ie the usual blerts bollocking on about Hyypia's pace, or Carra's passing)

My favourite three defenders of the last 20 years have been Hansen, Hyppia, and Carra, who have little in common.

Apart from being brilliant players

Jocky is, in fact, my favourite Liverpool player ever
Mine too.

Never understood the hatred for Insua, at times this season he has been our best player going forward and he is a left back...HA!!!

Of course he hasn't always been a rock in defense but give credit when it is due.

I don't think any one hates him.

He just isn't good enough, like Dossena, Traore and Riise were before him.

Mate, I don't know about you but I put Riise and Insua a full level above Dossena and Traore.

Riise is fucking *miles* better than all of them
Yep. Pretty fucking disrespectful to mention him in the same sentence as Traore and Dross.

Riise wasn't quite as bad as Traore or Dossena, maybe about the same level as Insua.. which is still pretty fucking shit.

If he could have a dollar for every time, he blasted the ball to row Z..

If he had a right foot, we'd have been in the CL semi 2 years ago.
Yeah and if his left foot weren't so good we wouldn't have won the champions league in 2005.
Seems a bit of a bullshit argument to me.

Or we would've won it more comfortably if he converted the penalty.

Anw, I don't want to get into petty arguments. Riise just wasn't very good at all, not especially when you compare him to the other top 4 left backs (Clichy, Evra & A. Cole).

Riise was excellent to start with and poor at the end. Many seem to have trouble remembering this, as they choose to remember one and not the other (some remember just the good, some remember just the bad)

I struggle to have any sort of respect for the "Riise was terrible" camp.

He was never "excellent". Carra was a better left back than him.

Riise was a brilliant fullback for a number of years, and was one of the best fullbacks in Europe, with even clubs like Barca interested in signing him. His form may have deteriorated, but even then: he was always a decent, solid player who could be relied upon.

Roma got a bargain.

riise started well and ended badly but on his worst day he wasn't as bad as inusa. I'd honestly take djimi over insua.

"One of the best fullbacks in Europe"?

Never in a million years.
He was. Barcelona were rumoured to be readying a £15m bid one that Ranieris Chelsea were more than happy to beat, which would have been astronomical for a full back in 2004.
You choose not to remember this. I'm not arsed. You're just wrong. It's ok.

How is he doing at Roma?
Better than Insua is doing at Liverpool

This is correct.

Riise was indeed poor towards the end of his Liverpool career however I'd rather we had persisted with him rather than wasting all that money on Dossena and watching Insua establish himself as first choice.

He did everything a fullback should do. He defended reasonably, give or take the odd blip which most defenders (especially fullbacks) are susceptible to and was an excellent attacker who weighed in with more goals than any defender we've had in the last 20 years.

Stop talking bollocks.
