so basically a set price means fuck all?

i don't know what point you're trying to make - it is what it is. juve have an option to sign at a given amount and if they meet it we can't refuse. if they decline then he remains our player and we're free to use him however we want. simple.

True, but that's usually because they've been crap and they refuse to pay unless the price is reduced.

Like with Scott Carson and Villa.

If Aquilani keeps playing well, they'll bite our hands off at 13 million considering it's far less than what we paid for him.
Did we not pay 17m for him?
About 18 million; with another 2.5 million in add-ons (which shouldnt kick in).

5% of the fee goes to Roma though.

Cunts.
i'm pretty sure at current exchange rates the fee was £17.1m and the projected fee with juve (minus 5%) is around £13.1m, so a loss of £4m.

With a new, young, attacking-minded manager beeing lined up things could look up for Aqua's chances at Anfield really.

First of all he wouldn't demand a fee as he's already ours to keep and secondly he'd be much more familiar with the league this time around.

I've not given up on him completely. Don't think he'll come back but things could fall out in his favour after all.

I'm actually wondering what the actual terms of the 'option' are though.

It might just be loosely worded as an 'option' but which is actually a right of first refusal with a fixed price set, in which case we might even be in a position to refuse a sale.

That should be the case; and I'm not going to argue with an accountant..still, the 20 million Euro is paid over 4 instalments, the last of which is due next June.

Not sure whether the rates have been pegged or not, but you'd know better than me.

Most of the add-on's (appearances and PL/CL wins) shouldnt kick in, but 300000 Euro for every CL qualification from 2010/2011 to 2014/15 might increase it a little.

You have to assume those add on's wouldn't kick in if he's sold on by then?
I dunno, really.

The appearances wouldn't, of course.

NOt sure about the trophies and CL qualification.

I'm not sure why so many are obsessed with "attacking" managers. Mourinho for example isn't one in my opinion, and he wins.

I prefer to win, I don't really care how.

So you don't have anyone in mind then? Laudrup perhaps?

Unless we change our setup to accomodate a player like Aquilani, there is no point bringing him back. And that's before you even get into the debate of whether he's suited to the league.

So you'd prefer us to bring in a defensive-minded manager? I wouldn't.

It seems NESV are here for the long haul so why not create a new, attacking-minded culture at Anfield with focus on high-pressure, high-tempo attacking-minded play. We'll need someone brave and visionary and talented in the manager-seat preferably young too, are we going to pull that off.

I'd personally be extremely downheartened if we were to bring in another manager in the Houllier, Rafa, Hodgson-mould who's all obvious rather defensive-minded and cautios managers - just like Mourinho is.

We've got to acknowledge that Mourinho is now only managing teams with the best and most expensive players around - this will not be the case at Liverpool. He'd try to build a brick wall and steal narrow 1-nils all over. Like he started out at Chelsea. And he even got all the money in the world back then.

Let's not just copy whatever worked for the Chavs or even Liverpool back in the 80s as the game were different back then let's instead try a different approach, address the game slightly different than what we've been used too over the past ten years or so.

There'd be no guarantees whatsoever that we'd win the Premiership with a defensive-minded coach either so why continue down that road?

Do you want me to say Laudrup Stu? Is that it?

Ok then. Laudrup would be an interesting choice indeed.

Klopp and Ståle Solbakken are other interesting names. Not so sure meself about Flores but he's been mentioned as well. Perhaps the Porto hot-shot Boas could be in the mix as well and personally I wouldn't mind Deschamps either.

Aquilani will never make it in British football. I knew that before we signed him. I take no pleasure in that because we wasted loads of money on the bastard. Anyone who thinks we should bring him back is insane. He's probably great in 5-a-side tick-and-pass training.

Does anyone think we are going down the same round with Meireles. He's scored some nice goals in an advanced position whilst Gerrard is out but, obv he'e no Gerrard, where are we going to play him long-term? I have doubts he'll make it as a Prem CM.
