All that, "I didn't have a moments hesitation after Liverpool turned me down again", and "always been a dream to work with Slur Alex" stuff suggests otherwise. He is basically on a pay as you play deal with Utd. He gets about £25g a week, that can rise to £100g based on performance/appearance related bonuses.

Not what he said - it's what he left out. See amended version above.

So what did he leave out of the "dream to work with Slur Alex" line, Froggy?

Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani is eagerly anticipating completing his move to Liverpool.

The Italy international is expected to seal his switch to Anfield on Friday after a deal in the region of £20million was agreed between the two sides.

Aquilani is set to replace Xabi Alonso, who has left for Real Madrid, as manager Rafa Benitez plots his side's challenge for the Premier League title.

The 25-year-old has thoroughly enjoyed his time at Roma but is looking forward to the next chapter of his career.

"Obviously I feel very sorry to leave my city and Roma," said Aquilani.

"But should the deal be completed with Liverpool it would be fantastic to play with players like (Steven) Gerrard and (Fernando) Torres and the others.

"Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in the world.

"I am moving on. I want to cordially thank all the Roma fans, who were like neighbours to me and me to them. I was always a fan of Rome and still am."

I can't look through 10 pages 🙁

Liverpool moved swiftly last night to replace Xabi Alonso, by finalising the £15million capture of Italy international Alberto Aquilani.

Kop boss Rafa Benitez had agreed in principle to the transfer of the 25 year old over the weekend, following talks with his club Roma but the deal - which could rise to as much as £20million with add-ons - was subject to the sale of Alonso, who yesterday came through a medical in Madrid to confirm his £30m move to Real.

And sources at Anfield last night also revealed that the big money move will not be completed until the Italian has undergone a stringent medical of his own, after two years of injury worries in Serie A.

Aquilani will have two days of medicals starting ton Friday, first in Rome and then thelater on Merseyside, as Liverpool take no chances on a player with a checkered medical history.

The midfielder underwent ankle surgery in May after playing just 14 games last season because of the problem, and he has not yet recovered sufficiently to allow him to resume training.

But manager Rafa Benitez is confident that - should Aquilani come through the strenuous testing he will undergo - he possesses sufficient quality to fill the oversized boots vacated by even a man of Alonso's quality.

"I'm really delighted to have got him, he's a player of great quality, and really good player who has real ability," Benitez said.

"It is important for us that he has the right mentality and experience to play at Liverpool. He has played at the highest level in both Serie A and the Champions League.

"He has long been recognised as a top class talent in Italy, captaining his country at both Under-19 and Under-21 levels before establishing himself in the senior national side.

"He will travel to Merseyside later this week for a medical."

Benitez decided that he wants a more attacking option at the base of his midfield diamond alongside Javier Mascherano, and Aquilani fits the bill.

He is a more adventurous player than Alonso who gets into the penalty area, and he also has an eye for goal, as his three already for Italy in 11 matches illustrates.

The capture of the Italian will take Benitez's spending this summer to just above £30m, but he has already raised more than £40m in sales, and could generate further funds by offload Andrea Dossena and Ryan Babel.

Offloading Dossena and Babel seem VERY unlikely anymore now.

Yeah our left side would be short on numbers. I hope Lennon is injured/going to be injured for next weeks game. The thought of him getting the ball in space and running at Insua or Dossena does not fill me with confidence.

Reds finally land Riera

Reds finally land RieraLiverpool boss Rafa Benitez is looking forward to working with Albert Riera after the Spanish winger agreed a four-year deal at Anfield.

Benitez turned his attentions towards the 26-year-old Espanyol star after failing to land Aston Villa's England international midfielder Gareth Barry earlier this summer.

The former Valencia boss told the Reds' official website: "Riera has the qualities we were looking for.

"He's a left footer who normally plays on the left wing, he's good in the air, strong, powerful and a good crosser of the ball.

"He's the kind of player we have been talking about. He can beat players and get good deliveries into the area for our strikers.

"We've known about him for a long time, since he was at Mallorca and then through his career with Bordeaux, Manchester City and Espanyol.

"He can talk English and of course he knows the Premier League, which is a big bonus. Usually foreign players need time when they go to a new country, but Riera already knows the league and the style of football.

"He also had offers from other English clubs but he said no to them because he wanted to come and play for us. That means a lot to me because it shows the commitment he has to play for Liverpool."

Alberto Aquilani is set to end speculation about his future by signing a new long-term contract at Roma.

Arsenal have long been linked with the Italian international midfielder, whose current deal is set to expire at the end of the season.

But despite the interest from England and around Europe, the 24-year-old is ready to extend his stay with the Eternal City outfit.

"We are very close," his agent Franco Zavaglia told Roma 24.

"I think we will be sorted by the start of February.

"The deal will be for four years."

Problem with Aquilani Medical
By Michael Owen

According to sources close to Empire of the Kop Liverpool-bound midfielder Alberto Aquilani has had some problems with his medical examination which may break down a deal for the Italian.

It has not been confirmed what the problem is but questions have been raised over the injury-prone players fitness ever since he was linked with a move to Anfield in the early part of this transfer window. If the player fails to pass a medical it may cause the deal to be called off or Liverpool may ask for a reduced price for the player due to the risk involved with taking a player with medical problems.

Whatever the result it is a concern for all Liverpool fans with no current replacement for Alonso other than Brazilian Lucas Leiva who was average at best in the reds’ last league campaign.
