Aquilani *signed 16m*

I wonder what odds you can get on the spine of the team ( agger,Aqua and Torres ) all being out injured at the same time at some point of the season

Thought he was already injured?
I think his absence of late is more a sign of a precautios approach rather than him actually beeing injured.

His back has been a issue for years now but it seems he's has learned to give it time to heal instead of just throwing himself into the first available tackle.

Here's hoping he'll stay fit for the entire entire Season.

Ferguson said: "Michael was perhaps our most controversial summer signing but I believe he'll continue to surprise people.

"There seems to be constant debate about the injuries he's picked up over the years but look at Paul Scholes.

"He's had two or three injuries and he's always come back. So we are not worried about Michael.

"If players have the resolve to get back then they always will and there's no doubt Michael still loves the game and is hungry to play."

sorry to quote SAF, but does this same logic apply to Alberto? I hope so, if we do sign him.

No, because Owen is proven in the Premier League, and Aquilani isn't.

What if the fee is less than the much touted 20m? Say 8m?

Apparently he can take a really good corner, if this is true then he could be the best signing ever.
Typical, the season Sami goes we buy someone who can take a good corner!
It's about time Gerrard got his head on a corner though, instead of taking them and generally wasting them.
Exactly. Been saying this for ages - at 6'2" or whatever and with ability and a shot like his WTF is he doing wasted out by the corner flag.

interesting angle really - we but a 20 million pound injury prone midfielder but we won't bring in for free a premiership proven owen.

more to do with owen pissing off rafa when he went to newcastle than anything else imo. rafa has a stubborn streak after all.

Nobody knows how much is the fee. 2 fees were mentioned so far, 16m & 20m. Given the crazy transfer market right now, with price doubling (eg Xabi from 15m to 30m), I would say Alberto's real value will be 8 to 10m. For that fee, it might just be worth a punt. Otherwise, who else is available at 20m that is a sure thing and is good enough for LFC?

At 8M of course it'd be worth a punt especially seeing as it might leave us with enough to go after a genuine star player.

As said though, it's not and represents a massive risk.

I'd love us to get Sneijder as well.

Hasn't Sneijder just signed for Inter for 18M ?

Dunno. I thought his agent dismissed the move saying he wasn't going to stay at Real Madrid.

Either way, we won't get him but I think he would've been a good option.

Me too. I thought I read he was in Milan for his medical.

From the Daily Post:

One Liverpool follower who knows all about Aquilani is John Arne Riise.

Riise moved to Roma for £4m last summer after 347 games and 31 goals during a seven-year career at Anfield, and was immediately impressed by the classy midfielder.

“When I first came to Roma, I didn’t know a thing about Aquilani,†says Riise.

“I knew all about Francesco Totti, Daniele De Rossi and Philippe Mexes, of course, but Aquilani was the player who surprised me the most in my first months with what he could do.

“He’s really good on the ball, with good passing, good movement, he works hard and is a good professional.

“He likes to have the ball at his feet but not because he likes to dribble, he just wants to keep the team moving. He never stands still, he’s always on the run.

“He certainly runs more than Xabi and is probably more dangerous in terms of getting in the box and trying to score goals.

“When I came to Rome he was my neighbour and helped me out a lot. He’s a good friend. Liverpool will be getting a very good player.â€

With his technical ability and neat passing style, Aquilani’s talent is unquestioned but his patchy injury record has raised doubts over whether he can thrive in the hurly-burly of the Premier League.

“There is an obvious difference between the Italian and English leagues,†admits Riise. “Here it is more tactical whereas in England you’re playing 90 minutes up and down, up and down, and there is more emphasis on power and physical force.

“But Cristiano Ronaldo isn’t all about physique and he has been the best player in the Premier League in recent seasons.

“Everyone can adapt. It just takes time. The key is how long it takes. I was lucky. I fitted in quite quickly when I came from Monaco. Alberto is someone who wants to make the most of his talent and wants to prove himself, so if Liverpool come in for you it is very hard to say no.â€

Of Liverpool’s title chances, Riise adds: “I really hope they can do it this time. Xabi and Alvaro Arbeloa leaving is a shame, but Glen Johnson is a brilliant signing.

Come on,Mike.

The lowest fee we've heard is 15.3 million pounds.

Even trhat figure is ridiculous, but in this inflated market we don't have much choice.

I'm not happy, it's a huge risk and it's a lot of money.

Once Xabi handed in the transfer request, it was going to end badly for us no matter what.

The rumour was we offered pay as you play, if I remember from Oncy.

He turned it down, and he can't be blamed for that.

He's been a prick in the way he's handled the transfer tho.

As for Rafa, I very much doubt rage is right.

I mainly think he couldnt justify the risk involved when we already have Babel,Voronin,Kuyt and Ngog as strikers..not to mention Nemeth and O. Thers.

Avey, sometimes you are simply too pessimistic for your own good. True losing Xabi is bad but no use crying over spilt milk now. Do look on the brighter side.

I'm wondering if his injuries are caused by playing too often without being given time to fully recover before being thrust back into the team (a problem I think owen experienced) if that is the case then he should get proper to recuperate as I think he will rotate with lucas.

He left for Madrid and didn't give Rafa even one season. He got itchy feet waiting for us to come up with the money and opted for a move to Newcastle (of all places). We offered him a 'pay as you play' and he opted to join our fiercest rivals.

Yet it's all down to Rafa, again.
