Nobody knows how much is the fee. 2 fees were mentioned so far, 16m & 20m. Given the crazy transfer market right now, with price doubling (eg Xabi from 15m to 30m), I would say Alberto's real value will be 8 to 10m. For that fee, it might just be worth a punt. Otherwise, who else is available at 20m that is a sure thing and is good enough for LFC?
Come on,Mike.

The lowest fee we've heard is 15.3 million pounds.

Even trhat figure is ridiculous, but in this inflated market we don't have much choice.

I'm not happy, it's a huge risk and it's a lot of money.

Once Xabi handed in the transfer request, it was going to end badly for us no matter what.
thats not the lowest ive heard.
Come on Herr
Spit it out what you heard
Its in this thread somewhere. 2m rising based on appearances for 4 years.
I dont believe it like, im just pointing out that it is a lower figure.

The joke is the rags will pick the highest figure that comes to their head or ears...

Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani is eagerly anticipating completing his move to Liverpool.

The Italy international is expected to seal his switch to Anfield on Friday after a deal in the region of £20million was agreed between the two sides.

Aquilani is set to replace Xabi Alonso, who has left for Real Madrid, as manager Rafa Benitez plots his side's challenge for the Premier League title.

The 25-year-old has thoroughly enjoyed his time at Roma but is looking forward to the next chapter of his career.

"Obviously I feel very sorry to leave my city and Roma," said Aquilani.

"But should the deal be completed with Liverpool it would be fantastic to play with players like (Steven) Gerrard and (Fernando) Torres and the others.

"Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in the world.

"I am moving on. I want to cordially thank all the Roma fans, who were like neighbours to me and me to them. I was always a fan of Rome and still am."

There was rumour saying we did offer Owen something. Owen turned down again?
The rumour was we offered pay as you play, if I remember from Oncy.

He turned it down, and he can't be blamed for that.

He's been a prick in the way he's handled the transfer tho.

As for Rafa, I very much doubt rage is right.

I mainly think he couldnt justify the risk involved when we already have Babel,Voronin,Kuyt and Ngog as strikers..not to mention Nemeth and O. Thers.
We have to replace a Midfielder, and who is good enough and available for 20m?
He's a good player, but we don't have the time to wait for him to rehabilitate from injuries.

Anyway,here's hoping.

I think we should've done more to sign Owen; he was never going to accept a pay-as-you-play deal, and nor should he, he's too good a footballer for that.

Anyway, Aquilani sounds sounds like Torres leaving Atletico, it's clearly with a heavy heart. I hope to fuck he settles quickly and adjusts to the English lifestyle.

I think his nickname should be "fingers-crossed", it's all I bloody think about when I hear his name.

Supposedly Mikey showed his United offer to Liverpool in the hope they'd offer him something similar.
I doubt it. It was too quick a deal. When the news broke that Man U was interested, hey presto, he was gone, swallowed it hook, line & sinker.

A phone call to Parry wouldn't have taken long though. There were persistent rumours that he tried to get LFC to match Newcastle's offer when they went in for him.

It wasn't THAT quick ! What ... a week ? Plenty of time, only takes 45 mins to drive to Liverpool from Old Toilet !

interesting angle really - we but a 20 million pound injury prone midfielder but we won't bring in for free a premiership proven owen.

more to do with owen pissing off rafa when he went to newcastle than anything else imo. rafa has a stubborn streak after all.
This "prem proven" Owen you talk about hasn't been the same for about 2/3 years. Injuries have ravaged him.

All that, "I didn't have a moments hesitation", and "always been a dream to work with Slur Alex" stuff suggests otherwise. He is basically on a pay as you play deal with Utd. He gets about £25g a week, that can rise to £100g based on performance/appearance related bonuses.

I just can't see how signing an injury prone player is going to bode well for us.

These types of players are what they seem - rarely able to play.

Surely there was better options. Defour?

I read that if he plays 25 league games and scores 15 league goals, he will earn about the same as he was at Newcastle.

And if he does that, he'll have been worth it.

He left for Madrid and didn't give Rafa even one season. He got itchy feet waiting for us to come up with the money and opted for a move to Newcastle (of all places). We offered him a 'pay as you play' and he opted to join our fiercest rivals.

Yet it's all down to Rafa, again.

You boring, odious, bile-filled, Rafa hating, cunt.
what has this got to do with rafa hating u stupid prick?

utd offered owen a better contract than us. my opinion is that we didn't because of our past history with owen rather than his fitness record.

you'll know when i'm rafa hating.

So what did he leave out of the "dream to work with Slur Alex" line, Froggy?

Do you honestly believe him when he said that ? We all know how political MO can be at times. Must have got a copy of 'Politics My Way' by Blair last Xmas.

Agger will score 10 goals from corners next Season then.
He might do if we play 250 games next season. Mind you, I bet you Agger never plays 250 games for us.
