Aquilani comments on future

We should obviously try to get rid. His signing has been a total shambles for us.

However, if an offer doesn't come in what should we do? Loan him out every year til his contract ends to save on wages but ultimately lose out on any fee? Accept literally any offer, no matter how low, just to get rid? Or bring him back and give him a few games? If clubs think we might actually not be desperate to sell they might be more likely to raise their offers a little?

Agreed. It's been obvious from quite early on in his time back home in Italy that that's where Aquilani wants to stay, but we mustn't let Juventus (or anybody else) play us for patsies. An added benefit of doing what you suggest might be that the player himself gets more of a grip on the situation and does whatever he can to make sure a sensible deal goes through.

loaning him out did nothing for maintaining or increasing his value, playing him here probably isnt going to do much either.

We might just have to accept that we massively overvalued him and now take the hit

We can easily change his mind...

nobody seems to be trying though.. i dont think we have managed the situation at all well...

I dont blame Aquilani one little bit.

We should have said straight away that we are happy to have Aquilani back, Juventus either pay the asking price or piss off... highlighted his terrific attitude and good form in Italy and how he will come back as a new signing ready to fit into Dalglish's pass and move approach..

The fact that he went out on loan should have enough clubs sniffing around thinking that he MAY be available..

You and one or two others keep insisting "we can easily change his mind". What exactly do you base that on, given that Aquilani has been saying right from his early days back in Italy that he wants to stay there?

Yes, but I doubt he's better than Aquilani. 😉

The serious point though is that Adam (a) has proven he can handle the Prem over a sustained spell of matches and (b) doesn't want to be elsewhere.

is adam really better than aqualini?
Has Aquilani ever had a season as good as Adam did last season?

I think Adam's goal total from last season alone is better than Aquilani's goal record with Roma.

We overpaid without a shadow of a doubt. If we had got him at a decent price we would not be having this problem now. The only question is what do we do about it.

If his loan spell really was a success then that suggests there should be interest in him, but maybe other clubs are just trying to get the most out of us that they can (and who can blame them really?).
I expect we gave him huge wages as well as paying an inflated fee, so an attractive solution to buying clubs would probably be us letting him out on loan against while still paying a chunk of his wages.

Whereas an attractive solution to us would be to sell him for as much as we can in a permanent deal. So its where we can meet in the middle really.

If noone will pay a fee or even pay his full wages in a loan deal then we might as well bring him back. There is even a slim chance he might do okay this time!

I think this forum is missing some debate around:

- the value Aquilani provided for his fee
- whether or not he wants to stay in Italy
- whether Kenny would make good use of him in our more pass and move oriented game
- what we should do if those damn Italians try and "shaft us" on the fee

So yeah, if we can all get started on that, it'd be great.

Also, I'm never sure what's actually going on, so if we can get more updates on the transfer saga as it unfolds it'd be really useful.

We shouldn't sell for less than 12 or 13M imo, and if we cannot realise that fee then we should bring him back and play him, I think he is a good player. I also think he is considered a good player in Italy also and that the prospective buyers there are trying to get him on the cheap knowing the preference of the player to stay and our financial constraints.

We probably did pay over the odds for him when we bought him, it seems our style at the moment but he is, or at least was, one of the best midfielders in Italy at the time and we had to replace Alonso.

Injuries did for him in his season here but by all accounts he has had a productive season back in Italy last season, he is worth good money still and we shouldn't allow ourselves to get fucked over on the agreed fee, primarily out of principle but also because he is a good player and worth it.

I think it's fair point to say that if he came back and settled in properly in the side he could obviate the need to spend money on others such as Adam, the fact that he came in the first place suggests he is not unwilling to travel and maybe just maybe he might still want to prove a point that he wasn't a twenty million pound flop sold off on the cheap to an Italian team trying to pull a fast one.

I would prefer he came back and played than us sell him on the cheap just so we can by in a player of similar or even lesser quality and experience.

Lol

Lol @ Ken.

Who cares chaps.
A player who didnt play for us last year, probably wont next year. We will either sell for a loss or a profit, but either way it wont cost you a penny.
Let it go.

Latest news coming out of Italy is that Juve have a transfer budget of €100M-€120M.

If that's true, Aquilani and Aguero could be on their way to Turin.

I'll start..
- I wouldn't sell him for less than 12mil, especially when players like o'hara are going for 5mil
- Who cares if he wants to stay in Italy, if he wanted that he shouldnt have signed for us. Either someone pays us for him or he puts his head down and proves why he was highly regarded in his roma days. we pay his wages.
- I believe he would suit in our pass and move game under Kenny and I'd like for us to keep him and give him a chance.
- Tell the other Italian teams to either pay what we want or fuck off! he signed, now either stay and fight or if you really want to go Italy, and a team only offers 6mil, pay the other 6+ mil yourself. we shouldn't be getting shafted by clubs for players who have quality

Juventus could have as much as €70m to spend on the transfer market this summer after the club received a cash injection of €120m.

The club’s board of directors met this afternoon where it was agreed that fresh funds would be pumped into the struggling Italian giants.

As well as the introduction of €120m, the club’s parent company Exor will also loan the Bianconeri a further €70m until December 2011.

The increase in capital was needed to offset losses of around €60m after the club again failed to qualify for the Champions League.

It’s unclear how much of the fresh funds will be given to director general Beppe Marotta to conduct this summer’s transfer moves, but speculation suggests it could be around €70m.

The club yesterday completed the captures of previous loan players Alessandro Matri, Fabio Quagliarella, Marco Motta and Simone Pepe for a massive €37.25m – but those fees are payable in three annual instalments.

Juventus have promised fans the purchase of a top player this summer and have been chasing Atletico Madrid’s Sergio Aguero and Alexis Sanchez of Udinese.

To date the club have made three new signings with Andrea Pirlo, Reto Ziegler and Michele Pazienza coming in on free transfers.

The new season should also bring an increase in revenue to the outfit given that their remodelled Stadio Delle Alpi will be the first arena to be owned by an Italian club.

I'm just a bit perplexed and dismayed at how readily they are in taking up the option to make the other loan moves permanent whereas trying to take us for a ride regarding Aquilani.

Alberto Aquilani has not found a club in Italy willing to sign him, so “he is going back to Liverpool,” confirmed his agent.

The midfielder spent this season on loan at Juventus and was hoping to remain in Turin on a permanent basis.

The Bianconeri refused to take up their option to buy him out, so his agent spoke of possible links with Milan, Inter and Napoli.

“Aquilani is going back to Liverpool,” conceded Franco Zavaglia this afternoon on tuttojuve.com.

The 27-year-old former Roma star has won back a spot in the Italy squad this year after recovering from numerous fitness problems.

Finally, it's kind of over, in a way. Of course when we bring him back Juve, will change their tune. But he's coming home....(eeek)

This will wipe out the Adam transfer, unless the Meireles rumours are true.

I still think Aquilani can be very useful for us.

Hopefully he'll be sold regardless.
Of course he will be sold.

I expect him to be sold to the highest bidder on the last day of the window but the fee will probably be undisclosed.
