Aquilani comments on future

We should be telling him to report for training. It would be a fresh start for him at a club very different to the one he left and a boss who'd give him every opportunity to express himself.

Juventus are not sure whether Alberto Aquilani is the kind of midfielder they need next season, his agent has confirmed.

Aquilani spent last term on loan in Turin from Liverpool and it looked as if the Italian club would make the move permanent this summer.

However, their option to sign him outright for €16m expired on May 15 and his representative is now no longer certain that the midfielder will stay in Bianconero.

“Juventus have asked us for a few days to reflect and in the meantime we are looking around in Italy and Europe,” Franco Zavaglia told TMW.

“I don’t think the problem is the transfer fee, but it has more to do with the system Juventus will play with. They are looking for a more defensive midfielder.

“Let’s see what doors open for us, but Aquilani won’t be left in the middle of a road because he still has three years to go on his Liverpool contract.”

Juventus are expected to line-up in a 4-4-2 under Antonio Conte, with his two central midfielders set to offer cover for the attacking wingers.

Aquilani may thus be looking for a new club this summer, but Zavaglia cooled talk that his client is Milan’s mystery Mr X.

“I’m not aware of Milan,” the agent added. “At this moment in time it is all just speculation and we haven’t been contacted by the Rossoneri.

Having signed Pirlo and Pazienza, chances of a move for Aquilani seem really small. We don't seem to be readying his return either, given the no. of central midfield options we are looking at. Hopefully we manage to get a decent fee/deal.

Liverpool-owned Alberto Aquilani wants to remain in Serie A and “there could be interest from Milan, Inter and Napoli.”

It looks as if Juventus will not take up their option to make his move permanent after spending the season in Turin on loan.

“The issue with Juventus is not definitely closed. They asked for a few days to think about it, but it’s only right for me to seek other options at this point,” agent Franco Zavaglia told Sky Sport Italia.

If we can’t find any other alternatives, then the player will return to Liverpool.

Milan have been linked with a swoop for the Italy midfielder, but the representative insists they aren’t the only ones.

“Milan? Alberto can play in all the top level clubs. There could be interest from Inter and Napoli too, but we have to see the technical requirements of the sides. For instance, right now Napoli are pushing hard for Gokhan Inler.

It’s only natural that Alberto wants to stay in Italy, but he also gets along well in England and the fans admire him.”

Aquilani's agent Franco Zavaglia told Gazzetta dello Sport there has been no contact from the Serie A champions about acquiring Aquilani's services.

"I can say that I am not aware of any interest from AC Milan," Zavaglia said.

"They are just rumours and we have had no contact with Milan."

"Juve have asked us for a few days to reflect and in the meantime, we are looking at the options in Italy and abroad."

"I don't think the problem has to do with the buy-out clause but rather that they (Juventus) are looking for someone whose characteristics are more defensive."

"We will see what happens. Whatever happens, Alberto is not left in the middle of the road as he still has three years left of his contract with Liverpool."

Alberto Aquilani's agent insists his client wants to remain in Italy.

The Italian midfielder spent this season on loan at Juventus from Liverpool. but the Turin giants have yet to confirm if they will sign the 26-year-old on a permanent basis.

Aquilani, who has been linked with a move to AC Milan this summer, is also a reported target of Napoli.

"Aquilani to Napoli? I don't think it would be an easy negotiation but if the will is there why not?" said Aquilani4s agent Franco Zavaglia to Italian Radio Crr.

"I have not spoken to (Napoli sporting director Riccardo) Bigon but the player wants to remain in Italy.

"If something was to come up he would be happy.

"I have not spoken to Alberto but Napoli is an important club.

"If Napoli considered Aquilani to be an important player, he would be open to negotiations."

Think Binny has beaten me to it.

Alberto Aquilani's agent insists the Liverpool midfielder wants to remain in Italy following last season's loan spell at Juventus. The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to AC Milan this summer, and is also a reported target of Napoli.

Bring him back now for pre-season training. Selling him for a song is pointless, a quality player who will add depth to our squad if we can not get what he's worth.

Fuck Juve - always knew they were going to play this game - once they, or any other Italian club, see we are not prepared to be butt-fucked then maybe a decent offer will appear.

Totally agree. I have had enough listening to Aqua (and his agent ) telling us he wants to stay in Italy, despite still having 3 years to run on his contract with us.

Well if you want to stay in Italy organise Juve to pony up the money they agreed to pay for you, after having you for a season on loan.

Otherwise shut the fuck up and get your arse back to Melwood in good time for pre-season training

I usually just ignore this thread and dip in once every week or so.

I wish we'd just sell him at this stage and move on. I really like him but I don't think it's going to work out.

Interesting comments on TalkSport this afternoon from Gabriele Marcotti, who reckons Aquilani is confident of doing well for us if he does have to come back. Didn't really deny the fact that Aquilani badly wants to stay in Italy though.

I had such high hopes for him as well.

Alberto Aquilani is still waiting for Serie A offers or he’ll return to Liverpool. “Nobody has come forward yet.”

The midfielder spent this season on loan at Juventus, but the club declined to take up its option for a permanent buy and, with the arrival of Andrea Pirlo, no longer needs him.

Antonio Conte is taking time to think things over and Aquilani wants to remain in Italy, so we are seeing what other options there are,” agent Franco Zavaglia told Radio Mana Mana.

“Aquilani is certainly not Pirlo’s ideal partner in midfield, as his characteristics just don’t suit that role. Either they change system or have to reconsider certain ideas.

The comforting thing is that in this season Alberto has played 36 games, so question marks over his fitness levels have disappeared. He made an impact at Juve.”

Aquilani has made it clear he wants to remain in Serie A next term despite being owned by Liverpool, so options include Milan or a return to hometown club Roma.

“I think Roma would be very unlikely, as Liverpool spent a tidy sum to take him two years ago and to sell him back to the same side for a different figure would feel like an own goal. He’s an important player for Liverpool and they won’t give him away.

“As for Milan, it’s all media speculation so far. Nobody has come forward yet.”

Important player... Define "important".

Half of Serie A is waiting until the last minute to shaft us.
It's like an ebay auction with no bids yet and the time left ticking down. You know there are loads of watchers, and you know at the last minute a load of bids around the same price will arrive all at the same time, just when it's really too late to get the items real worth.

I say take him back for a season and sell him next year or in January (assuming we want to) , when we have him more in our grasp and we can conduct the sale properly.

regards

Not sure about that. He badly, but BADLY wants to stay over there. If he comes back here and has a lacklustre season (or worse) the price he'd fetch would fall even before the Italians began to play their little games.

Ahhh JJ, you have been agreeing with me this morning, don't spoil it now 😉

I think that is part of the problem about the sale as it stands now, everyone knows his position and they think that will affect our willingness to get shut at almost any price.
I don't think keeping him another season is going to affect the price much in fact the reverse. We paid £18m+ sigh for him. Juve had an option at what, £14m or £15m that they did not take, because they know if they want they could pick him up on ebay for what is looking like single figures.
I honestly think if we play hard-ball he is going to be worth £12-£14 next year meaningless season or not, he is still only 26 .. I think we can afford to call bluffs any way.
