If you lock it now he'll sign for a club within 24 hours and then someone will start another brand new thread about the shithouse. We're through the worst of it, so you might as well let it die naturally

The reason why everyone wants rid is because he's wanted rid practially the day he arrived.

AC Milan have accepted Liverpool’s terms for Alberto Aquilani according to sources in Italy. The Rossoneri want to take Aquilani to the San Siro before the transfer window closes and have been edging closer towards concluding a deal. But while the former Roma midfielder will have little problem agreeing to join the Italian champions, a compromise must be found over his wages – Aquilani earns over €3M per season on Merseyside, while Milan will pay just €2M. The ball is now in agent Franco Zavaglia’s court to work out an arrangement with Liverpool.

But Milan’s acceptance of Liverpool’s terms is a big step forward. Liverpool will allow Aquilani to move to Milan on a season-long loan deal, but unlike the arrangement with Juventus last season, where the Bianconeri held the option to buy the midfielder for €16M at the end of this period, the Serie A champions must agree to an instant transfer activation clause. And so, if Aquilani makes 25 appearances with Milan next season, the Rossoneri will instantly be compelled to pay Liverpool €6M to make the move a permanent one. Aquilani is expected to arrive in Milan on Wednesday night and then undergo a medical on Thursday.

It now seems just a matter of time before the Italian’s brief sojourn at Liverpool comes to an end.

Liverpool's worst ever transfer. I think so... was meant to replace Alonso, who was epic, and completely failed to. To bad cause he has a lot of talent just didn't work out.

What drives me nuts about this whole saga is that Aquilani is, in fact, a world-class talent. He just doesn't fit this team and this league. So now we are stuck begging teams to take him off our hands at a huge financial loss - and it will sting twice as much if he actually fulfills his potential in Milan or whatever team he ends up with. We would be suckers twice, first for paying 20 million, and then for selling him for almost nothing just before he came good.

Having said that, I do sincerely wish him the best.

What a fucking relief.

I felt, and still do to an extent, that he should be given a full season in England. But if he is being a bellend behind the scenes, which I reckon is quite likely, then we should just cut our losses and move on.

Agreed. I do think he's a quality player, but there's no smoke without fire and this is now smoke coming from quite a few clubs and managers. As long as we keep Ming then I'm happy, I don't think we could do without both because we need someone who can play in the Gerrard role and grab and create a few goals.

So basically we got only 15M for Xabi, and never replaced him. Without doubt the worst ever business done by us. The Robbie Keane fiasco doesnt even come near.

I have little doubt he will do well for Milan, or indeed that he would have done well for Juve, Napoli, La Viola and/or any other Serie A club which may have shown an interest, because the essence of his problem is that he should never have left Italy in the first place. His career had stalled when we came in for him and we doubtless made him a massive offer, so he made the mistake of his life and accepted. I don't really blame him for that - the fault lies with us.

The only thing I would question in your post is whether selling him at a knockdown price in the near future makes us suckers. We undoubtedly were when we bought him, but this whole business is now a running sore which we need to cut out of the club a.s.a.p. It will be majorly annoying to take such a loss, but better that than have another Winston Bogaarde on our hands.

£7m seems a piss-poor return for a player we singed for £20m two years ago, but the important thing is we now have players in his position, plus we don't have to save every penny like we did under the two Cowboys.

It's pretty clear we never had any intention of allowing him back into the fold, and the poor little fella, who struggled with umpteen viruses had no appetite to try and become as success at us.

We've essentially used this transfer fee to bring in Coates, so that's a good piece of business as far as I'm concerned.

Aquilani update: Zavaglia for Gazzeta - "Aquilani has decided. He wants AC Milan. We hope that we can quickly reach the agreement." #LFC

The best thing about this transfer is not having to deal with his bleeding agent anymore..

One of the rumours:

The move would be on loan with a €6m fee that becomes automatic at Aquilani’s 25th appearance for Milan.

The payment would be spread out at €2m per year starting from 2012.

Not only is it low, its in installments... 😱

I think the 2 mill is his salary though, and we have to cover the rest - 1 mill...
[/quote]

From that same article, it mentioned his salary will be €2.5m

He would be handed a contract worth €2.5m per season and could make his debut on Saturday in the Serie A opener against Cagliari.

Just saw this full quote:

Alberto Aquilani's agent, Franco Zavaglia, has told Gazzetta.it: “I will remain here, in Liverpool, until I complete the transfer in favour of AC Milan. Aquilani has chosen and he wants AC Milan. We hope an agreement will be reached very soon.”

Franco Zavaglia has got to be the most vocal agent I have ever seen in recent yrs...

Can we all chip in and order a hit on him?

He'll be in Italy, surely it can't be *that* hard?

Bologna, Mamma Mia, you're in charge of sorting it out
