What else is there, Spidey?

Aquilani's father has said he's been fit for months and months.

as many have said he could be saving him for next season giving him a full preseason. aqua has a history of injuries so he (rafa) may be treating him overly carefully.

so you think the reason rafa isn't playing aqua is rafa not rating the player? no other explanation?

What other explanation could there be?
I think it could be a case of Rafa simply not trusting him to find his feet quickly. With the situation as it stands, we simply cannot afford to drop points. As such, Rafa, by nature, is likely to go with what he knows rather than gamble with a new player.

His scientific approach does not lend itself to unknown quantities. As horrifically mediocre as Lucas is, he's becoming quite consistent at it, so at the very least Rafa knows what he'll get from him.

I suspect the only times we'll see Aquilani this season is when we're a) winning comfortably, b) playing cannon fodder (if there is such a things for us these days) at Anfield or c) fucking desperate.

Yup, good post.

looking at our squad in the harsh light of day, johnson is one of the VERY few quality players we have.
Reina, Mascharano, Gerrard, Torres, Agger. A bit more than few, but admittedly not nearly enough

just giving a possible alternative to 'rafa thinks he's shite'.
personally I'm not in the least bit bothered (of aqua's exclusion) as I haven't seen enough of aqua to be the slightest bit annoyed that he is getting left out, the only thing that is bothering me is the 20m that could (and possibly should) have been spent elsewhere.

Maybe he is actually a she, and Rafa dare not let her get changed at the same time as the rest of the team. For fear of a mass orgy ten minutes before KO.

It's obvious he has more talent and is more incisive than Lucas, but that's not really hard is it?

Certainly being 'better than Lucas' was about the bottom rung of my expectations for a 20m player who was bought to replace Xabi Alonso
Least Keane was given a chance and proved he was shit, Aquilani isnt even getting a chance to show if he is good enough.
I don't think Keane was. He needs to play in a 442 with a partner and never really got that here.

Agreed Aquaman has never been given any sort of a chance and should never have been bought.

There are so many prem cm that would have done a way better job than him and for less.

Bollocks, probably, but it is exactly what Benitez has actually said
i just can't believe that's true.
That whole pathetic, disgraceful Benitez/ Barry/ Keane interview was one of the two moments that made me belatedly realise that we need to fuck Benitez off.

The other was his starting XI against Spurs at the beginning of the season, when it was obvious - even in August - we were going to struggle.

Ah well.
100% agree.

After day 1, some of said we would battling for fourth not 1st and were ranted at left right and centre.

Obviously I've never kicked a ball in my life.

I think we may be overlooking 18M we spent on a right back that isn't a right back aswell.

Rafa is making to many expensive mistakes these days.

Hmmm, not sure about that one Dreamy.

I suppose there is a "priority/ cost" argument, but I was - and still am - happy that we signed Magic, because I think he's a very good player and one of the best RBs in Europe.
I really like GJ but he's not a defender and his run of games before injury proved that. He cost to much for what he offers.

We couldn't afford another striker but we spent 18m on a right back. It was very poor judgement on Rafa's part. We have looked so much more solid since magic has been out.

I thought you we're advocating Rafa to be sacked if he payed 17 million for a right back and then not playing him there?

I fear that one of my favourite ever signings is going to be a footnote in our history. He will almost certainly be off in Summer. My hope was that a new manager would play him where he should be played and regularly too, but Rafa will begets next year now. So erm yeah Aquilani will only ever be seen as a failure if he isn't given a chance to play.
The list of players who Rafa has hindered at this club is probably as long as those he's improved.
Oncy, your tone initimates that we've bought quality but it's Rafa's fault he's not showing it.

That's not entirely true or fair is it?
Uh oh
Tut tut Pat. I defended you in the oher thread when you said this

Bottom line GJ should be at RB or Rafa should not be at the club.
If you spunk 18m on a f*cking right back you better play him there or you should be get the boot.

Now your contradicting it by saying he is not a defender, and we're more solid without him.

He's the Tommy Smyth of internet forums.
I lived in America for 3 months during the last world cup and discovered Tommy Smith.

That is an insult to DB.

It's not, it's a fucking peach of a call by me.

A whole load of blustering cliches, rubbish analysis, and annoys everyone within sight. It's absolutely spot on.

I have recently, but Tommy Smyth is the most appropriate call ever and I can't let it go.

Mate, youtube or google him and unleash the horror...

I can't believe there are people out there fortunate enough to not know who Tommy Smyth is. You've no idea how lucky you are.
He cant show it if he doesnt play Ryan. We already know (its clear) that Rafa doesnt rate him/trust him, so he wont play. The ONLY way he will have a career at Liverpool is if Gerrard leaves in summer or Rafa does.

Haha. I watched a stream of the Everton Vs United game the other day and he was in th studio.

He is from Louth, just had a look at his wiki page. Liked this bit:

Popularity
He is rated as one of the most annoying commentators according to football fans

So he is a less erudite and articulate version of Stan Staunton then?
