aqualini = keane mark 2?

in the two years that alonso slumped (by his standards) rafa wanted to offload him, well, is lucas playing better than that sub par level?

I'm still clutching to the hope that we will see more of Aqualani next season. This season has been a right off for him but let's not give up hope yet. He seems to be a player who likes to move the ball quick and with pace. He seems to want to play neat incisive one two's and make forward positive runs. If we want to benefit from this we need players around him that can move into space and be comfortable with the ball. A fit Torres, Gerrard, Benayoun, Reira and Johnson will all compliment this style of play. Perhaps a pre season under his belt and a fully fit squad will highlight his talents.

like I said earlier, its entirely possible rafa is handling aqua with kid gloves to unleash him next season but going by rafa past its unlikely and more likely he'll offload (at a loss).

We're going to sell him back for like £7M and some fools will tell us Rafa is a genious to recoup some money from his mistake....
Selling Keane and not buying a replacement was a massive mistake in the first place...
Fucking Yanks

You easily forget Ross, that while giving Johnson a torrid time for our defensive mess at the start of the season, we had;

-Carra in shocking form
-Agger injured, out of form
-Skrtel injured and out of form
-The Greek new signing/finding his feet
-A midfield combo of an out of form Masch and Lucas
-Gerrard/Torres injured

That, is the main reaon we leaked goals. Not Johnson.

He's had a few bright spots, he's had as many dark ones.

It was the "great signing" criteria I was asking about.
johnson is eveything I want from a fullback unfortunately for him he came into a team that was all over the fucking place defensively so its a little rich placing the blame at johnson's door for the defenders inability to defend.
Johnson played the first game of the season Spidey. He's not independent of our defensive mess.

It's the combo of him and Insua in the team that completely destabilised the team. I fully expect us to play with Johnson and Insua at full back again for the rest of the season and I'm fairly sure we'll see a defensive mess once again.
if that mess happens in games we win because are taking the fight to the oppsition then fucking bring it on.
We won alot of games last season, and have done in the past, with two balanced fullbacks. We lost points this season because of Johnson's defensive frailties. He's great going forward but we're sacrificing our defensive side heavily with him.

His own defensive play is poor, as shown for England too, and his positioning destabilises the defence. Carra and Skrtel have both occupied the right side of the centre back pairing. Is it just a coincidence that both had a rough time with Johnson at fullback, and then both picked up their form when he got injured?
Is that why Capello keeps picking him, Mark? Magic's defensive play needs improvement, yes, but describing it simply as "poor" is swallowing a media myth.

We needs to buy Scandinavian.

Oh.

And/or German.

No, it's because Wes Brown is his main competition for the RB berth.

He has been suspect for England many a time, with a lot of people claiming he lacked the focus to concentrate during 90 minutes.

Not buying that, I'm afraid. If he was THAT suspect Capello would have tried others by now. "A lot of people claiming" anything doesn't make it true.

Indeed, but I think the jist of the ‘claim’ was his desire to play further up the pitch sacrificed his defensive responsibilities, and he needed to concentrate fully for the 90 minutes to ensure he wasn’t left exposed.

He’s the best *option* England has at RB, despite his defensive frailties. I like him as a player, but it’s no surprise our defence has become almost water-tight in his absence.

Reina

Gj Kyrgy Agger Carra

Masch
Gerrard Aqua

RW

Torres Babel

RW could be any of Kuyt, Benayoun, Maxi depending on whats needed hard work, creativity, or possession

I just think the only chance to make our new attacking signings a success is to have an attack that scares teams a la the scum.

I would like to see a Masch, Aqua, Gerrard engine room! The MAGazine is loaded

Come on JJ, Capello picks him because he a brilliant player, no one can take that away from him, he's excellent at attacking and has a great future, but his defensive play IS poor, he's consistently made errors, particularly at International level, and as said, he's got little competition for the role anyway. He's a good attacking fullback and an all round good player, so he's accommodated and rightly so.

Are you saying he's being picked for his defensive strengths? He's being picked because his attacking play far outweighs the ability of any other English right back.

What I'm saying, mark, is that however eye-catching Magic's attacking skills may be, Capello would not pick him at fullback if his defending were really as poor as you claim it is. I've acknowledged quite clearly in this thread and elsewhere that his defensive play needs improvement, but I don't accept a simple blanket description of it as "poor". The media have repeated that allegation often enough for you and one or two others on here to come to believe it, but I maintain that it's a clear exaggeration.

It was even more "spot on" when I said it all 12 hours earlier too.

I fear that one of my favourite ever signings is going to be a footnote in our history. He will almost certainly be off in Summer. My hope was that a new manager would play him where he should be played and regularly too, but Rafa will begets next year now. So erm yeah Aquilani will only ever be seen as a failure if he isn't given a chance to play.
The list of players who Rafa has hindered at this club is probably as long as those he's improved.

I don't like your tone.

It's not easy for Rafa, having to introduce a player to the Premiership in an out of form, injury plagued side.

But nonetheless, it will be a sad day if Aquilani is sold in this summer without truly been given a chance of showing what he's capable of.

Alonso, Reina, Torres and Mascherano seemed to cope OK. I can't imagine Rome was *that* different in climate from where those boys spent their formative footballing years.

We've just bought a lemon.

so you think the reason rafa isn't playing aqua is rafa not rating the player? no other explanation?
