I dont know what to make of it. The rumours are a little disturbing especially seeing how little Aquilani is playing. But that's the other side of it. WHY isn't he playing ? It's baffling. Is he injured again ? It's not like he's having trouble breaking into a winning team or anything.
Yeah, he picked up a calf strain against Arsenal.

My guess is the rigidity of Rafa's thinking is at the bottom of this. He bought Aquilani with a view to moving the team on to its post-Alonso style. A toxic combination of bad luck and us letting ourselves down has prevented that from happening, so Aquilani's not getting on the park even though he's now fit, because the set-up he was intended to slot into hasn't come about yet.

here's a post a just read on est

'im living in new york 8 years and i met molby yesterday in the 11th street bar, home of the liverpool supporters club,he came on the beer with us at 8am yesterday, and he told us the aquilani has been training full time, doing everything that everyone else has for 5 and a half weeks, but he does'nt have the "bottle" to play in the premier league, rafa has asked him everyweek if hes ready and he keeps saying "one more week boss"or during a game when hes on the bench rafa asks him to get ready to come on and he keeps saying "10 more minutes boss" ! he got his info from carra and agger ! he says he wouldnt have taken 50million for alonso because rafas whole team and style of play was built around alonso! our team and club is f@@ked people, big time! cant afford to back the manager, cant afford to sack the manager!'

I really fucking hate the comparison to Keane, it doesn't make sense on any level whatsoever; Keane never, even from the day he was signed, had a set role within the side. It was never logical, he has a world-class player in Gerrard occupying his territory.

All Aquilani has to do is to be better than Lucas, which is like asking anyone to be less of a cunt than David Walliams, i.e - not that difficult. I despised all the speculation when Aquilani was injured, but ever since his Father has suggested his son is fully fit, it makes the whole process very odd indeed.

If Rafa really did spend £20M on a player and he isn't better than Lucas, I'm sorry, but regardless of stature he really has to go.
Hahaha. You've changed your tune.....in the space of 4 minutes.
Yeah, because little things like evidence should never sway your opinion.

Regardless of all this speculation, how can he be judged till he has played a full 90 minutes, im praying he does soon as this is a ridiculous and irritating rumour.

I think rafa is just being overly cautious of a player who has come back from a long term injuries. if you look at aqualini appearances in the years he has been at roma its pretty shocking. I think rafa feels if he just hrows him in at the deep end his injuries will return.

It just sounds ridiculous.

Ha, yeah that is most definetly bollocks. Sounds like something a 5 year old would make up.

Lineker posted his season review, and has made Aquilani the worst signing of the season. I was amazed that he could judge a player after 40 mins of PL fotball. What a joke of a pundit.

Aren't all those who insisted Keane wasn't Benitez's signing gonna come and claim the same about Aquilani?

This season has been such a joke.

This sounds like horseshit.

Aqua looks dejected on the bench. He looks like someone who's pissed off at not getting game time, rather than someone who just wants to occupy a spot on the bench.

When you tie it into the fact that his father said he's bemused at not getting game time, the whole post is just some made-up internet bollocks.

Heh,

as Brendan and Vlad have intimated, I think you're missing the point of Linekers comments. :-X

Don't know whether to laugh or cry at this point

rumour and bollocks, he isnt playing because he's been out for 8 months and being nursed back, already he has picked up a small injury again so you can see we need to be careful. I think Benitez knows what he's doing since he has probably seen these injuries dozens of times and knows how to handle players so let him get on with it

Keane played like 20 odd times for us before being shipped out, comparisons are lame

Rafa will tell us Aquilani was not his signing.

How will he do that exactly?

Blaming the yanks or Purslow.
He did that many times in the past.

This is actually Aquilani's real territory too. Aquilani isn't Alonso. It's a bit of a problem.

Unless Gerrard plays CM instead, which is one of the options. The other option is to give up on 4231 and play 433, but I'm not sure how likely that is.

I reckon Aquiliani would have more fun on the left than he will in CM under Rafa.

Bollocks.
Exactly what I was thinking.

Bottom line is Rafa had 20m to replace Alonso and did it with a player who now hasn't played a full 90 mins for us in a half a season.

His position is crucial to the formation and hence with Lucas there we have fallen apart.

This falls at Rafa's door. His time is up.

We are the biggest laughing stock in England.

I feel sorry for Aquilani.

Not sure that hasn't just happened with Mascher being suspended for 4 games.

The options without Mascher appear to be;

1) Play Aquilani
2) Drop Gerrard back into midfield and put Yossi/other into the hole.
3) Play Spearing.

I think either of the first two options would be good moves and hope one of them happens.

About the only positive I could take if the third one happens is that its physically impossible for us to get a worse result than last start so no real difference.
Until I read your post, it never occurred to me that Spearing/Lucas midfield with Aquilani on the bench is a possibility. Rafa should be fired on grounds of insanity if that happens.
