I think he had 'forced his way into the Italian team' while at Udinese, which may have meant the useless tubby cunt won a few caps due to Grosso being injured and/or 34

And to think we were all made up at the time for signing an Italian international defender!

We weren't.

Noone had ANY idea if he was any good or not.

Benitez has made some great buys, including some sensible cheap buys as well as expensive.

He's also made a slew of errors, and the costliest ones are all recent, and it will probably cost him his job.

There's your balance, free of having to make an argument no one believes for a second.

I'd tend to agree with most of that Farky.

It should also be noted of course that the lack of willingness to invest in players by our owners, has also played a significant part in our (Rafa's) problems this season.

Both are kinda related,Raf.

Rafa's transfer failures are the most recent and most expensive; if he came to me and asked for another 40 million I wouldn't be thinking Torres and Mascher; I'd be thinking Keane and Aquilani.

I detest our owners, and I detest the fact that our season is over.

But we can't just shrug our shoulders and say 'if only Rafa had more money'.

It's a cop-out.

we also need a bigger wage budget to compete seriously, it's not just about transfer fee's

the likes of chelsea and Man Utd have twice the wage budget we do which means they have more and better players allowing them to cope with the long season, injuries, internationals etc
