Anyone still keen on letting Allison leave at end of the season?

Will he believe again?

I don’t think it’s a stretch to say any other keeper in the world tonight and we concede multiple goals.

I remember many fans being comfortable with letting Ali go at the end of the season and promoting our other great keepers.

Do people still hold that view?

For me Ali must stay. He’s the best in the world and will be a long time to come.

I'm dreading it to be honest, we've seen and been through the transition with keepers over the years and seen the very best and the very worst. Ali is the top of the pile and anything else is a comedown unless we have someone who is truly prodigal, which I don't believe Kelleher is (he's good, but just good). This other lad I don't know much about, but it's a big difference going from Alisson to a keeper who's struggling in another league.

The Spanish outlet Super Deporte has claimed Mamardashvili is "a shadow of the player from a year ago", while AS suggested that he should have done better with two of Osasuna’s goals this weekend in a 3-3 draw between the teams. "Mamardashvili has not been a miracle-working goalkeeper for some time now," it reported.

"He has become mundane. In Aimar Oroz's two goals, he gave the impression that the Mamardashvili of old would have done more, and in Ante Budimir's penalty, he dived to the side where the Croatian almost never takes them.

"Sooner or later a debate will open. If it hasn't already, it's because of the respect earned by the Georgian and because [second choice goalkeeper] Stole Dimitrievski didn't have his day against Barcelona in the cup either."

Elsewhere, Marca gave Mamardasvhili just a one-star player rating. "I don't like to publicly evaluate the individual performance of each player, but I do it privately," Valencia manager Carlos Corberan said when he was asked about Mamardashvili's performances. "We compensate for any sub-par performances with a lot of work."

"I was attracted by the Liverpool project as soon as the club’s representatives met with me," Mamardashvili has previously said. "I will fight for the starting goalkeeper role there, even if the current goalkeeper does not leave."

Never saw a need to buy a goalie and my opinion hasn't changed. Out of all the positions we are strongest in the goalkeeper department. Pointless signing when that money should been used elsewhere.

The only way it makes sense is if we know Alisson is leaving or we've agreed to let Kelleher leave. It seems odd to be because of the latter when we agreed to let the Georgian stay at Valencia on loan, while blocking Kelleher from moving. To me it just smacks of us already knowing that Alisson will go. I hope that's not the case.

Ali has 2 years left on his contract and says he wants to see out his contract. The prudent thing to do would be to have the Georgian as #2 for next season as he trains under the world's best.

Hopefully the case is that they know Alisson picks up injuries and that we need a very strong number 2. Irish Kevin has said he'll stick around for this season but then he needs 1st team football, and that's fair enough. So we have a new (previously) highly rated young keeper coming in to develop under Alisson. He will get enough games to make it worth his time and then hopefully reach a point where he takes the position for himself.

I hope.

Either:
  • It's a blip season
  • He taken his foot off the gas as he's already made it to a big club and this club / season doesn't matter
  • He's actually a bit shit
Hopefully it's option 1.

Anyways, Alisson is the best we've ever had and injuries aside, there is no reason for us to cut loose.

Its more that Valencia are really shit this season. We've seen enough of the big Georgian to know that he's ace, so its a great signing going forward.

I don't think there ever really a sensible view that Allision should be actively moved on. The club have done some future proofing (which right now looks dubious, but we've seen enough of him know he has all the tools to be a top-class keeper). Given his performances this year he could have no complaints about arriving here as number two to replace Kelleher.

Anyway, as for Ali, he gave a very telling reminder as one he's regarded as one of the best keepers in the world, and maybe the very best. To go from the likes of Karius and Mignolet to Alission in one window has to have been one of the biggest upgrades in our history.

Like is always the case, if they want out to explore other opportunities and the club has a reasonable offer that meets his valuation, then I take no issue with the club not standing in his way.

In pretty sure that Kelleher will leave and the Georgian come in as back up. No problems there at all.

Keen on selling Ali - not really, but if we want to get a big fee for him - then this summer is the time.

We definitely don’t need to, but there will be much gnashing of teeth from the usual suspects if we let him run down his contract and leave on a free.

Yes, this is what I also expect.

We most probably knew we wanted the new guy eventually and went out and got him while the cost wasn't too high and before he moved elsewhere.
