I think the comparison to Gazza is a bit OTT. Gazza was a mentally unstable wimp with an addictive personality and a weight problem. Carroll is just a young macho Geordie who likes to drink loads (and can hold it because he's fucking rock-hard). He's no different to most of our 70s and 80s players. Obviously the physical demands are higher now, so he might have curb his piss-up sessions a little bit, but I don't see him as the fragile, self-destructive type.
It wasnt a comparison; just suggesting potential dangers that MUST be kept in mind and avoided,Bunny..

I'm not so sure he can hold it. 5 pints and 3 Jaegerbombs and he was on the floor.

I'm more concerned with his pony tail then his drinking.

Liverpool have put the smackdown on Carroll with a training routine. Unbelievably he didn't do any gym work.

I laughed at the bit where he was shocked by how Liverpool have him training and pumping iron.

Fotballers are really a pampered breed!

He didnt say that, did he?
It was shanks to the press after he'd bought Ron Yeats.

How tall is Carroll? 6'5''?
From the offal..

First Name Andy
Surname Carroll
Squad Number 9
Position Forward
Height 1.91m
Weight 76 kg

6 feet 3 1/4 inches

That weight's got to be wrong hasn't it?

I thought he was taller than that. I'm disappointed.

I don't do kg, I think I'm about 78kg though and I'm about 11 1/2 stone, so that can't be right.

Not really.

I had to rack my brain; wasnt sure if that was Smith or Yeats 8)

Tommy Smith was solid all right, but never that massive. He just seemed like it when he tackled people, or when ill-advised opponents tried to tackle him.

I would have like to see any of those tippy tappy bellends up against Souness or McMahon for that matter.

He would have chewed the up and spat them up all day! He was a beast!

Andy Carroll is on course for a sensational Anfield debut against Manchester United.

The Liverpool record signing has returned to training after getting the all clear on the infuriating thigh injury which wrecked the start to his Anfield career.

Boss Kenny Dalglish has always insisted that the £35million his club invested in the 22 year old was for the future, not right now.

But Carroll wants to make an impact as quickly as possible, and there is no better game to do that in than the battle against the old enemy.

United are due to visit Merseyside on March 6, which gives the big centre forward three weeks to prove his fitness.

But the omens are good for the most expensive English player in football history, after he came through a weekend of extensive work, after rejoining training at the end of last week.

Carroll has still to join in with his new team-mates in training, but he worked with the physios last Friday, and began a rehabilitation programme over the weekend.

Yesterday he stepped up that work, and the signs are already encouraging that he should be able to do more physical work by the end of this week, which will pave the way for him to return to full training.

It will be a massive boost for Liverpool as they prepare for the game against United which could define their season.

Dalglish has still not given up hope of making the top four this season and snatching a Champions’ League place, but he knows they must take results against the top sides to do that.

Liverpool face United, Manchester City and Arsenal within the space of a month, and would dearly love to have Carroll back for those matches, to add his quality to their forward line.

Dalglish has refused to put a date on the striker’s return, but he is happy the Geordie hero is progressing well under the watchful eye of the Melwood medical team, and hasn’t ruled out a comeback against bitter rivals United.

Is the stage set for Andy to become an instant hero?

How brilliant would he be for him to bag the winner against the Scum!

Roll on March 6th...

Bit harsh.

Nobody gave glenjo a tough time when he was rocking the shitty locks.

Carroll looks like he should be a villain in diehard.

I hope I'm wrong but I don't expect Vidic, who relishes a straightforward physical battle, to find him as difficult to deal with as he found Torres, though in a season or two things might be different.

Maybe so (though I think he'll monster Vidic no his debut for us), but he'll certainly take up the attention of both Vidic and his partner for large parts of the game - cue Suarez to buzz around and do some serious damage.

There's also the matter of a smaller and more mobile Suarez for them to worry about and believe me these 2 lads are gonna be a handful for the best of defences.

A fit Gerrard,Raul,Suarez,Carroll,Kuyt should be able to cause them a few problems to be fair.

I always fancy our chances in this match so this'll be no different.
