Ancelotti

Brendan sent McAllister out to do the press and TV interviews yesterday, which he must have known will only fuel the speculation.

Well him and Rodgers seem thick as thieves.

We could send them both on an all expenses paid trip to Marbella and get some professionals on board instead

I disliked him ever since I saw that 69 joke he said on Being Liverpool. I know it is not rational but I felt it was a cringy thing for a LFC CEO to say.

And hated the Fowler shoulder thing. I feel a LFC CEO should behave with more gravitas in public whereas it looks like Ayre tries desperately to be one of the boys.

I don't agree. It's a juvenile waste of time which runs an unnecessary and potentially damaging risk of p!$$ing the owners right off. Bad, bad idea.

Difficult to know for sure but, contrary to the impression some seem to be under, he hasn't only ever managed at top level. He began in management at Reggiana, a team which has often floated between Serie A and the next level down, and got them into Serie A. He moved on to Parma, who at the time were not in a CL place, and got them into one. Then he moved to AC Milan, who are obv.a big club but were not doing well at the time, and got them to Istanbul a few years later, even if the result that night wasn't what he had hoped for. 😉

That AC side that had Dida in goal, maldini , shev, kaka , inzaghi and on and on . followed by more superstar sides ? So over the past 10 years itd be fair to say that hes managed at the top?

As for Ian Ayre, he was in the pub when the Chelsea Swansea game was on. Anyone who knows my old boozer will know that there's a lounge area full of hobbits but will not have been in there, they'll have seen it and looked away. It's full of hobbits all crouched over talking about last night's QI - and there's no TV, whereas the bar is ace and has the footy on... well he was in the lounge with his mate. I can understand missing the footy... but going out of your way not to watch it seems fucking nuts. Also, I have a natural distrust for grown men who drink bottles of bud when there are 14 different draught beers on.

Distrust? That's a firing offense. Worse judgement than buying Balotelli.

How old is Carlo? Id love to hire him, but I don't want a manager for the next 3 years, I want one for the next 10.

We will get Carlo Ancelotti if we are sold to Dubai. He is not stupid enough to take this job without serious funding. If we could get close to the City average wager then perhaps.

Anything else is just setting yourself up for failure.

They bought Rui Costa, Inzaghi and Pirlo in his first season. Nesta, Seedorf and Rivaldo in his 2nd. Kaka in his 3rd etc.
He transformed that Milan side but they obviously had loads of money to spend.
Apparently he made the decision to move Pirlo to dm behind Costa.

We've got a decent amount of money and a pretty good squad. He'd do well here. If he's interested.

The main issues is that he is a respected leader, which we really need now. And he has a winning mentality. is background coming from Milan and other big Clubs, in addition to loosing that game against Liverpool, will bring in a totally different mindset than coming from Reading With a good thought of how a big Club could acvt. Ancelotti knows what it takes to be at the top and will make a set up for taking us there.

Honestly I don't think there is any chance Ancelotti will go to Liverpool. With his Champions League pedigree, why would he agree to take on a club that's not in the CL and would need a major mid-season turn around and some degree of luck just to make it there next season. Ancelotti will want to manage a team that can deliver his record-breaking 4th CL trophy, not fight against the odds for a chance to get there.

Also looking at the way things are going at the mega-rich CL clubs, there surely will be at least a couple of vacancies next summer. Maybe even a lot of vacancies. And another thing – wouldn't taking on another job at mid-season cost him part of his severance package from Madrid?

On the other hand, Klopp seems desperate to jump on board, but somehow FSG has other ideas. Maybe Klopp is too much of a straight shooter to fit into their corporate culture... In which case, I could see an argument that it's better to give Rodgers more time than trust FSG with a replacement (if it's definitely not Klopp or Ancelotti).

I'm finding it very difficult to see us as his best option.

Exactly right. It's a losing preposition regardless. This ship isn't sailing without a better gate revenue and sponsor deals. We are about 200 mill £ short a year to be serious contenders. The only quick fix is if FSG dumps us somewhere in the middle east. Unfortunately I think that is not that far off.

I think it's obvious that the "money ball" philosophy doesn't really work in 'Soccer' and with FFP off the table they have little reason to stay.

I think their mentality will be to pull out if they can't win trophies - and they can't with Liverpool. Not the once that counts. Not in the next 4 years at least.

I don't understand why Dubai has to wait with the takeover until the Stadium is build. Why would that matter at all? It would be easy to put a deal together that take the stadium overhaul into account.

not enough coaches it'd seem. it's the same guys again and again.

Rafa: Liverpool, Inter, Chelsea, Madrid
Maureen: Chelsea, Inter, Madrid, Chelsea
Ancelloti: Milan, Chelsea, Madrid, ?

We've got the 7th most expensive squad in Europe. Its bs that we cant compete mate. We've just spent loads of money like drunk sailors in Rio after being out at sea for 18 months.

The fact that we're in desperate need of an complete overhaul at every level of the club and a far from CL qualification could put Carlo off.
As Cloggy and Rurik say, we arent his best option.

With his Champions League pedigree, why would he he agree to take on a club that's not in the CL and would need a major mid-season turn around and some of luck to make it there next season. Plus any one of Pellegrini, Mourinho, Guardiola, Van Gaal, Benitez etc could conceivably leave or be forced out by next summer and Ancelotti would always be one of top 2 choices to replace them.

Also wouldn't taking on another job at mid-season cost him part of his severance package from Madrid?

That's a fair question, but I don't agree with your apparent assumption that he'd necessarily turn the job down. Having won everything there is to win and had a good break from the game (not to mention the admiration for LFC and its fans that he's gone on record as expressing before), he may fancy writing his name into history - again - as the guy who took us back to the top level. Those other jobs *might* become available, but equally they might not and, if he wants to get back in the game and has a firm expression of interest from us, he may quite conceivably think that's his best bet. I'm not saying he'll definitely come, but I don't see any good reason to assume the contrary.

We spent 20 mill net this summer. You want "loads of money" we should probably look at City - what was their netspend?

http://talksport.com/football/premi...five-summer-transfer-windows-150903165355?p=9

We spend 127 mill the past 5 years - Scum is at 268 mill.

What about salaries?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...spite-seventh-does-club-fare-wages-table.html

We might be able to get Benteke at 32 mill but we only get him because non of the others want him. Then we pay him what - 130K a week? TOP 3 pays 200.000 a week to a host of players. Isn't it a fact that the club with the highest salary cap has won 95% of the PL titles?

US
Turnover 5th highest, £256m (up from £206m in 2013)
Gate and matchday income £51m
TV and broadcasting £101m
Commercial activities £104m
Wage bill 5th highest, £144m (up from £132m in 2013)
Wages as proportion of turnover 56%
Profit before tax £1m (following £50m loss in 2013)

SCUM
Turnover 1st highest, £433m (up from £363m in 2012)
Gate and matchday income £108m
TV and broadcasting £136m
Commercial activities £189m
Wage bill 1st highest, £215m (up from £181m in 2013)
Wages as proportion of turnover 50%
Profit before tax £41m (following £9m loss in 2012)

These numbers will only get worse without the CL footy.

I think it's safe to say it is NOT a level playing field.

Not for Ancelloti and not for FSG.
