I don't get it. You guys are English. Born there, bred there. This is your national team, why aren't you supporting them? I can see supporting cunts can be a bit tricky but at least they are talented players. Do you feel pride when you watch Hurst scoring the 'they thinks it's all over' goal? Bobby Moore with the cup? Do you not want to feel happy that your countries team is world champions? I don't get it at all.

I wouldn't know the right words to try and express how happy I would be if Ireland won the World Cup (unlikely as it is/will always be).

well, just my opinion, but i think part of it might be down to our glorious imperial past meaning that our general historical identity is that of opressors (for example in the eyes of the irish and even americans) so we don't have that common sense of injustice/righteousness that you guys do (i guess), while at the same time our present world position is much diminished, meaning that there's a slight sense of loss in any flag-waving situation.
more importantly, don't forget that most of england is much more patriotic than liverpool generally, and SCM specifically.

have to say though, it really annoys me to hear that cliche about the arrogant english, who apparently always expect england to win the world cup. i have never once met any englishman who's thought england were going to win ANY of the world cups i've lived through. never.

I'm Scouse. Not English.
[/quote]

Yep. I think the apathy is a Scouse thing for some reason. I for one don't feel particularly connected to the national team, and then there's the fact that that the vast majority of the team are cunts, the media frenzy that goes with it all etc etc.

I'll watch the English games with added interest, because I'm more familiar with the players, but I won't be cheering them on by any means. I voted no.

^^^^

However, when it arrives, I suddenly develop a small sense of pride and am THE most racist man on the planet. Bar none.

I think everyone on this site is aware of mother Windevers racist ways at this stage.

Oh fuck yeah, you were.

Soz.

What a bunch of lying tossers. Most of you saying that you don't care just think it's cool to say something so utterly wrong.
I hate most of our players but I ALWAYS want to win. Especially if we are playing Germany or Argentina.

Go England and fuck all you haters.

I really don't want England to win. I couldn't cope with the media frenzy and the self righteous back-slapping. They won't win it anyway.

Errrrr...... No. I genuinely couldn't give a fuck..

Yes, but less than i used to because most international Games now are of a lesser quality to the CL. I also can't fucking stand the nasty aggresive hooliganism and jingoism many Ingerlund fans sadly come out with ... Its fucking sad as it is embarrassing.

Seconded. Even in 1966 the only person who said we'd win was the manager, and he was derided for it.

Not really. There were brave noises about the world champions being ready to defend their title to the last, but as it took place in Mexico most people venturing an opinion plumped for Brazil or the Argies (though in the event we were extremely unlucky not to get something from the Brazil game, and then to go out against the W.Jairmens like we did).

I don't mind watching England but them I am English. Still, I don't think they should win, they're not that good.

As for relating to the players, erm, ordinarily I can't relate to the Liverpool players so what difference is there? So and so is a cunt but so and so (who plays for someone else) isn't? Erm, not really.
