I don't get it. You guys are English. Born there, bred there. This is your national team, why aren't you supporting them? I can see supporting cunts can be a bit tricky but at least they are talented players. Do you feel pride when you watch Hurst scoring the 'they thinks it's all over' goal? Bobby Moore with the cup? Do you not want to feel happy that your countries team is world champions? I don't get it at all.
I wouldn't know the right words to try and express how happy I would be if Ireland won the World Cup (unlikely as it is/will always be).

well, just my opinion, but i think part of it might be down to our glorious imperial past meaning that our general historical identity is that of opressors (for example in the eyes of the irish and even americans) so we don't have that common sense of injustice/righteousness that you guys do (i guess), while at the same time our present world position is much diminished, meaning that there's a slight sense of loss in any flag-waving situation.
more importantly, don't forget that most of england is much more patriotic than liverpool generally, and SCM specifically.
have to say though, it really annoys me to hear that cliche about the arrogant english, who apparently always expect england to win the world cup. i have never once met any englishman who's thought england were going to win ANY of the world cups i've lived through. never.
