Of course they wouldn't have. Things would have been far different. That doesn't mean to say Germany would have prevailed. Of course the Americans helped bring forward the end of the war. That had to be a good thing. I'm glad they joined us as it brought an end to the whole thing more quickly. But to give the Americans ALL the praise for ending the war is complete bollocks. It was the Allied forces. A combined effort.

That's true, but there's a myriad of other factors involved as well, it was just that "America saved Britain's ass" like so many people seem to think.

The fact that every inadequately educated American seems to believe that, along with a ton of other guff drip-fed to them by shoddy Hollywood movies is more than enough to rankle, not to mention ruin this "Appreciate America" thread.

I suggest we step away from the debate and head back to safer ground.

Repelled? the Luftwaffe was fucking anihalated, the Russians were fucking digging deep, the Nazi's were lost, they had the Russians one side, and were getting bombed to fuck by us, well before the Clint eastword and co came over.

What? rommel was fucked, the Reds and Monty (even though making a right meal of it) had the Nazi's number, The Nazi's had the better tanks, that is probably the US's biggest land contribution, the armour they provided.

Regardless, Hitler had far too much on his plate, it was only a matter of time.

that sound about right - I don't give them all the praise but I think their intervention shifted the war completely in the allies' favor ...

whatever the case, I think Hitler's 'insanity' lost him the war ... Going into Russia was a big 'no no' ...

I like America for ... HOLLYWOOD. It's comforting to know that if we're ever invaded by aliens with vastly superior technology and armoury , or a huge asteroid is coming our way, America will single handedly save our skins !!!!

Britain had withstood all of Germany might since Sept 3rd 1939 the American became involved in the was on Dec 8th 1941 there first battle was mid 1942.

Monty had taken Tobruk in 1941 Britain had entered Greece in 1941 all this was without America.


The war in Europe would have ended the same, all the commonwealth soldiers fighting against Japan would have been in Europe.

Again get your facts right.

Yeah,well thats due to the Hollywood factor, they didn't have rack off some WWII films portraying the ever present knight in shining armour that is, coming to the rescue.

In fact.I'll add that to my list, I can't think of many US war films i've seen that I rate.

Actually that's not quite true.

I once heard an interview with , well actually I don't know what you'd really call him, but he was an American fella with numerous degrees.

He had completed lots of research into how the world would best be equipped to deal with an Alien Invasion and came to the conclusion that the Mujahideen's tactics would be the best to use on the Aliens.

Independence day that is, having said that most of the superpowers came out shit, we were in the desert drinking tea, the Russians were in the Cremlin with their hats and Klashnikovs being waved about etc, the Yanks, well they were doing loop the loops in fighter jets and giving beautiful speeches

I have been in the US in 1996 and I have to say my impressions were very positive and I agree with Vlad's post.
Apparently 9/11 has changed a lot of things. Some of my mates went to New York after 9/11 and told me New Yorkers were
arrogant, susceptible wankers. Maybe its only New York, but Id say 9/11 had an impact on most americans' attitude.

I went in November just after it. I found the people in New Jersey warm and welcoming but found some of the New Yorkers a bit up their own bottoms. Saying that, a couple of my mates went for Paddys day a couple of years ago and got treated like royalty.

When some guys found out they were British these group of Yanks said " God Bless Tony Blair. You guys stood with us in eye-rack"

"Fuck Tony Blair" my mate replied "Tony Blair doesn't tax you !"
