Allen

A couple of things, if you are gonna put a video of a player to show his quality make sure you post one that does it. That was a 4 minutes video of Joe Allen passing sideways.

Even though it was, he did play well yesterday. The one thing that was different was that he got forward more, he was trying to affect things further up the pitch a nobody can get the ball of the centre half and pass it to the full back.

he plays better when we're winning. Would need to see a big step up against big teams or when things aren't going our way.

A big improvement though

It wasn't a video to show his quality. It was a video that showed every single touch he had in the game. Quite useful to see the positives and negatives of players.

Some nice moments in that video. It's a small step in the right direction but I do hope this can represent somewhat of a turning point in Allen's Liverpool career. We are crying out for some quality in midfield and if we can get that internally without having to go spend another 15-20M it will be a huge bonus.

The next few games will be interesting because swanning around against a tired and defeated West Ham is one thing, holding your own against the top midfields in the league is another. I would like to be surprised.

Quite. I think the main problem last season was that he seemed to get outmuscled far too easily, he didn't look like he had the physique to dominate. Have a look at the difference between that performance and his one at Upton Park last season, the contrast is stark.

He's got a low centre of gravity and ability to turn on a sixpence, which is the sort of technical agility we lack, Henderson can be too slow to gain control and Lucas sticks to the basics. Maybe he can be that calm, assured influence we're crying out for. If we can keep him fit and give him a run, we might have that £15m player on our hands. If we can get Alberto involved more and Henderson hitting the target more often, that might help too.

Yeah.

Allen is good but Lucas is shit and Gerrard is fucked so we still need better options in midfield.

Next Sunday at White Hart Lane will tell a tail or two about Joe Allen.

Pretty much what I thought really. There was a lot of "sideways" in that video. However, a lot of it was quite effective. I'm usually very critical of Allen, but to be fair, I thought he had a fantastic game on Saturday. If he kept that sort of form up, I'd be more than happy. However, against West Ham he should be playing as well as he did. Secondly, I don't think he'll keep it up.

Allen can play, and play fucking well.

Some of us on here (i.e. me) have said this for a while. Some of you (i.e. all of you) are gonna look like dicks with this ballplaya in the side.

I'm just quoting this so you can't delete it later on when you realise what a massive bellend you sound. It's for your own good lad.

One good swallow and all that shite........

Ryan, I'll give credit where it's due. Allen was brilliant on Saturday. But he has to maintain some level of consistency before I'm convinced. And that includes teams other than West fucking Ham. Spurs will be a good test.

Also, forgot about Henderson. People keep telling me he's good, but he's not really, is he?

No. He's not.

He's improved somewhat since last season, but not as much as some people make out. He still offers fuck all from an attacking point of view. He's boring to watch, and he's shit in front of goal. He's just not good enough. And to all those talking the "he's still young" bollocks, he's been a regular in the starting line up for some time now, and he's not learning from experience.

Young? Yes. Inexperienced? Not any more.

This season he's improved his passing game immensely. Next season he will improve the shooting and finishing. I agree that right now Hendo is taking up an attacking space without contributing any goals and almost any assists, but I think he is absolutely the type of player who will get better year after year. A bit like Ramsey, actually.

Ramsey lost a year because of a broken leg and he's still miles ahead of Henderson.
Just look at where other top players were at 23.
I really hope he needs another season or whatever to sort himself out. How about we give that kind of time to Luis Alberto? Or Suso?

Immensely? You're having a laugh, right? At best, he's made the transition, from completely shit, to a less version of shit.

Comparing him to Ramsey is fucking hilarious. The main difference being that Ramsey is streets ahead of them, even though they're of similar age, and Ramsey has already suffered a broken leg. Ramsey is scoring goals, he's exciting to watch, he's a much better passer of the ball......I could go on and on. Henderson is none of those things.

He's nothing like ramsay nor never will be. Everyone knew that ramsay was a proper talent since his cardiff days. There were many liverpool fans hoping we would go in for him instead of arsenal. He only went shit after breaking his leg but is now starting to fulfil the potential most people had already saw. Hendo has never even remotely looked like he has the same level. At sunderland he looked average because that's what he is.

Allen doesnt look half the player he was at Swansea. I hope that he steps up because he would certainly add value to us. Lucas still gets caught in possession. Unfortunately he needs to step up his levels if he wants a future at the club.

We lack a dominant holding/defensive midfielder which leaves our defence exposed. Neither Allen or Lucas looks up to the role. That is a key area for strengthening and I hope that BR addresses it come January.

I heard Rafa wanted him but couldn't get board approval for the deal.

I'm not sure his career would have progressed just as well, if we bought him.

We don't seem to be good enough at letting a young talent realize his full potential.

Lucas/Henderson/Shelvey etc are all players who were once well sought after....we have just managed to turn them into average players.

I hope the likes of Suso/Sterling/Ibe/Illori etc can prove me wrong, but i have seen some worrying stuff already.

Well sort after by who? the only one i can think of is henderson by the mancs but that was just an equiry. If you're good enough your talent will shine through. Problem is lucas, henderson and shelvey are just average players.

..., and then breaking in to space to receive the ball. His movement with an without the ball was second only to Suarez=

Silly question; but did Allen only touch or saw the ball for 2mins 51 secs in the game?

How much would you expect? 22 players on the pitch. Defenders will see most of the ball as they pass it along the back line. There's a fair bit of time wasted in games too. And Allen's job, if he is doing it right, is to get rid of the ball quickly rather than linger on it.

That performance was what we expected of Allen when he came. He was great. My only niggle is his capacity to search out a lateral pass when the better and safer option is to play it forwards. The pass to Sakho on 2.07 could easily have been intercepted leaving the defence flat-footed. I've seen him do a few of those this year. Nonetheless, a terrific game. He was integral to completely smothering Spurs and to setting us going forwards.
