He's not slow, but he's just not Torres quick. I could live with that is he could score a few more goals. He needs to score more goals for an offensive player.

With...

----------------Torres--------------
-------------Aquilani---------------
Riera-Mascherano-Gerrad-Maxi

...staying fit for the rest of the season I think we could be fighting for something better than 4th.

while hes clearly our best option on the left hand side far too often he turns in 6/10 type performances, and he lacks the pace or goal threat to be worth carrying for the periods where his contribution drops. Also there must be something wrong wit his fitness levels, he was replaced after about 60 minutes in nearly every game he started last season

Thats said he brings definite balance and composure to the side, as has been mentioned by other posters though with Riera and Kuyt as wide players there is no threat of pace bursting from midfield

So he's not lightning quick like Torres, but he's not slow?

That's not very illuminating.

Like others on here I think Uncle Albert improves the balance of our line-up, but for a wide midfielder/winger he looks slow to me - either that or he's pretty reluctant to use whatever pace he does have.

I like Albert. I like Dirk. I think, ultimately, only one of them should be starting any given match and the other winger berth should be a pacy, direct winger the likes of which we don't possess.

Didn't rebel used to have a similar theory with Lucas?

Yes.

One of Headwand's many crack-pot theories
HAHAHA did he? Im not using it as any kind of theory, i just wondered with all the talk of how much more balanced/better we look with him in the team if results backed that up.
Its difficult to contend that Albert would have changed any result this season shite as we have been.

I've always liked Albert. Put simply, he stays wide, can beat his marker, is a capable enough crosser of the ball and is left footed.

Bar Gerrard and Torres, we have no other attacking players who can match even two of those attributes.

As others have mentioned though, we need a more direct, pacy player on the other flank (so not Dirk).

Agreed.

I think Reira's got the best first touch in the squad and is technically excellent. It's just a shame he lacks the pace to be a real dangerous player. He is pretty smart on the pitch though; he keeps the ball well, as well as using it pretty dangerously - and his recent set pieces have been a welcome surprise.

My two concerns are firstly his crossing. If you're not a quick wide man you sure as hell sbould be able to cross the ball accurately on a consistent basis - Riera hasn't shown that.

Secondly is his tendency to go missing for games on end. He's got to get himself more involved and start posing a threat.

Some of them results are wrong aren't they, Oncy? Unless I've got the wrong end of the stick of what you meant.
I don't think so mate. Unless I've fucked up the odd one, but I don't believe I did.

I thought the Chelsea result was from the league last season.

We beat Fulham and Real Madrid away, though.

Benayoun with both goals oddly enough. Unless we don't count his goals? 😛
