I dont know if you're even answering anything I've said, but that's not surprising.

As I've said many times, I think Hodgson prefers Skrtel to Agger because he feels that Poulsen wouldnt offer enough protection to the defense if Agger were at CB.
If Poulsen proves himself, I think we'll be seeing more Agger.

I'm sure Roy's aware that those two has been the defensive back-bone for Denmark for quite some years. Not saying of course that's enough to make it in the Prem but I wouldn't be to nervous about it really.
I hope you're right, especially about Poulsen.

Hehe I know you do mate.. you're giving me sleepless nights about it too....

*I was gutted after the United loss but there were a silverlining, Poulsen made it to quite a few Top 3s on the day. Not to shabby in his only third game and beeing away at the Ol' toilet and all.

The only reason that he should play in my optic is that he's the better footballer overall. I fear that he's beeing benched because of Roy's tactical preferences but I'm only guessing of course.
I don't think anyone would argue against him being the better footballer, though he's not quite the Beckenbauer you make him out to be by any stretch, but your argument is so flawed, myopic and biased. So he should be in there because he's a better footballer?

Smicer was a better 'footballer' than say, Murphy or Riise. Who gave the team more?
We concede less goals, reduce opponents to taking more % shots and are more likely to keep a clean sheet when Agger is in the team compared to when Skrtel is in the team. It is the stats. If your point was that Skrtel gives more in terms of defense, i think it is baseless.

So if you already agreed that Agger is the better footballer, and if the stats prove that Agger is also the better defender, then it should be a straight forward choice...no?
No. For one thing, can we see those stats or have the source please? For another, I know who I'd want in there if there's a physical battle coming, and it isn't Agger.

I'd probably pick the Greek in a physical battle to be honest.

My take, as I have posted earlier.

Agger: Victim of circumstance. We didnt have a recognisable left back until Konchesky, so he played the first 3 games at left back. Carra and Skrtel played at CB. They must have done something to impress Hodgson and he might have wanted to see if the partnership could develop. Hence, the dropping of Agger to the bench for the games against Birmingham and Man Utd with Konchesky signed.

However, given Carragher's and Skrtel's awful performance against Manu U, we might see Agger back against Sunderland.

Neat sidestep. Worthy of Michael Laudrup even. 😉

Posted earlier...it's not a day/night kind of gap, but the stats are still in favor of Agger. Drogba is the only player who has exploited Agger's weakness and that was many moons ago. He has done just fine in many physical battles since then. The difference in the physical strength is not on the scale of Gerrard/Smicer. In fact i think i would bet they are pretty closely matched. Skrtel is more likely to make a full blooded challenge and rough em up a bit.....but i'm not really sure that is required for a team, that wants to fight at the top end of the table.

To answer the first part, here is some stats for the two of them.

Defensive Statistics Agger Skrtel
Games Played 82 59
Goals Conceded/Game 0.8 0.95
Shots on Target/Goals Conceded 4.73 4.5
Clean Sheets/Game 0.26 0.23
Red Cards 0 0
Yellow Cards 4 11
Total Cards 4 11
Fouls 42 53
Fouls/Cards Ratio 0.1 0.21

Agger has said he didn't make those remarks at all. He's very happy and willing to fight for his place. He says he didn't speak to any papers and they've just made it up because 'they have nothing to talk about in Denmark'

I havnt really read all this thread but if the discussion is who thinks Agger should start, I'm in. Agger would be in my best 11.

So Glock, Zlatan, Ragehard, KHL and myself reckon Agger should start ahead of Skrtel when fit....

He is a more cultured player by a mile but competition and some bench time is good for him. He must raise his game and improve his weakness.

Saw an article that Rafa is looking to bid for Agger in January. 9.5M Euros!

Carra>Agger/Skrtel

That should be all thats there to it.
to be fair, carra isn't having the best of starts this season either.

He is still our best defender though. He might make one mistake, but look at the tackles that stop 4 more going in. It isn't just cos hes scouse, but because he does fucking everything for the club.

instead of the facepalm point out the error of KHL's posts, that would make for more compelling reading.
And give the man even more of an excuse to disagree and go on and on and on about Agger?
The thread is already 12 pages long Neil, how much more of this Agger agenda can you take?

I do worry about Carragher though.

There will come a point where it's more difficult to defend him from criticism, but I hope we're not at that point yet.

He'll have to be rested as the season goes on.
