Agger's warning

- I've been benched for two games now so let's see what happens, but it's not something that I'm prepared to accept on a more permanent basis, Agger told Onside.dk after the game at Old Trafford.

- The way we address the game has been changed a little compared to when Benitez where around as he told us to build up play from the back. That's not something we are doing at all now, he said whilst underlining that he's not going to change his own ways much.

- I'm not going to change a hundred procent. I'm not going to do that because I'm a footballer and I like to keep the ball on the ground. That's the main reason. I'm here to play football not hoof.

Make of it what you want but that's a warning send to the new gaffer.

I'd be extremely disappointed to see him leave come January but this could indeed be the case as he's not going to accept sitting on the bench. Nor should he.

Agger is by no means flawless and he's got a lot to learn but he's still by a mile our most realiable defender on the ball. There are only few good reasons IMHO to keep him benched unless of course he's not the type of player you'd like in your squad. And if that's the case we are indeed turning into a midtable team.

Our defence was trying to play it out from the back all game yesterday, so I'm not sure what he's on about.

He can fuck off as far as I'm concerned. I feel for him that he's on the bench only because he filled in at LB for us, which is unfortunate, but to fire warning shots at the club after 2 games? That's just being a cunt, and I've had enough of that from Liverpool players recently.

He probably shouldn't have aired his frustrations so soon but on the other hand there's no doubt in my mind that he's beeing vey sincere here.

Roy now knows what to expect at least.

To be fair I think he should be playing every game.

Decent footballer and a decent defender.

Come on Danny boy, man up.

He has been a victim of circumstances unfortunately. He was asked to play left back before we bought Konchesky and Skrtel and Carragher probably did something right in Roy's eyes that he decided to stick with them as his first choice pairing. Will be interesting to see next week's CB pairing against Sunderland, given our deficiencies against Man U.

I've always been pretty sympathetic to players when they get 'mistreated' or have some kind of personal issues, but to start making snide remarks about the manager a few games into the season because of footballing issues is unacceptable really.

As I said in the other thread, we've not been hoofing it so next time he's making excuses to the journalists back home he should think of a better one.

He will get his chance shortly, and he need to understand that we are a whole squad here fighting for survival. No place for sulking.

Are those actual quotes? Would he actually say 'I like to play football not hoof'. He's a professional footballer not a fucking 6CM poster.

And for the record, I think he should be starting ahead of Skrtel. Skrtel was awful yesterday.

obviously he forgets the period Crouch played for us...

Carra enjoys a hoof..

If these comments are legit that he needs a fucking kick.. Get yourself fit for more than a month and you might cement your place.

Jesus fucking Christ. Anyone fancy waiting in the bushes outside his house and hitting him in the face with a brick? What a mong.

he should be playing but he shouldn't be telling us he should be playing...
[/quote]
He doesn't do that does he?

He's just saying that he isn't prepared to be sitting on the bench for the most of a Season.

Agger should expect to be sold.

We need a new CB anyway.

Rumour has it that we're in for Lt. Dann from Birmingham so that might just happen.

Agger is a good player but not so good that he has a right to start moaning and laying down demands just because he is not playing.

If he is going to be childish then he can go. We have enough problems frankly without the players we have creating more

Why? His centre back partner is better than him.

no reason why he shouldn't be playing ahead of skertl.

but then my first choice cb partnership would be the greek and agger

Hehe maybe he's been posting on here after all? Glock perhaps?

Anyways it was actually exactly what he said as I was sat listening to this interview immediately after the game.

He was smiling/smirking a bit when he said it so it was perehaps a bit tongue in cheek-like but he certainly meant that Roy was addressing the game differently than Rafa with regards to how to build up play and that needed some adjustment from the players.

It'll injure him again.

Jamie Carragher is our best defender by some distance.

On paper, maybe. But did you watch them play against Steaua? They weren't that great really, were they?

I like Agger as a player, and would prefer him to Skrtel on the whole, but those comments are just cuntish. Particularly nonsensical, as we built up almost entirely from the back against United. I can hardly remember a single long pass from a defender in that match.

Agreed it doesn't make perfect sense and perhaps he did give in to his frustrations after all. Which of course he shouldn't have but then again I for one understands his frustrations at beeing benched only to be used as LB back-up.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that Roy is of the opnion that a long ball-defender isn't better than a ball-playing one, I'm not convinced though.

Whoever is defending best should be included. Distribution comes secondary.

And there's not much between Skrtel and Agger in this department. Neither have improved since being here, which is a shame.

We need to ship out one of Agger or Skrtel, and possibly the Greek, and bring in a CB with aerial presence who isn't a complete mong on the deck.

Then let's sell him, we need a new centre back anyway. So, sell Agger for a good price and bring someone else in.
Keep Skrtel as back up and we're better of.

We need a centre back that can actually head the ball and has some presence in the box. Our last defender with that ability is in Germany.

The Greek is well, just not good enough.

Very early days of course but isn't Wilson supposed to be pretty good in the air?
