Adam Lallana

Lallana at this point in time IS the better player no doubt.

His actual footballing ability is very very good and his consistency is incredible. This is why we are after him. He does suit our system almost perfectly.

Where i agree you is that he almost seems a luxury player for us right now in that we could be tackling the CM spot more heavily e.g fabregas, kroos, martinez etc and this would help us a lot more moving forward, and for the balance of the team.

Based on what?

How much better?

In which respects?

How much value would you place on the improvements you believe he would provide?

How much value would you place on the loss of Coutinho's input?

Is the net improvement you calculate worth say £25m for what's likely to be no more than 4 years' contribution?

He's Rodgers' first choice, and I want him to get his first choices.

Consistency is everything in this league, and if you combine that with great footballing ability and hunger to succeed you've got somebody that can make a huge difference to your team.

With Coutinho, he has raw ability, but his consistency levels aren't particularly high, and if we are relying on him to play that role week in week out its a huge burden on him to perform..will he be able to cope with the pressure..I'm not so sure.

Whilst I love Lallana and want to sign him.
Southamptons valuation is taking the piss.
30m is world proven player money.
Whilst id still be happy to get him, I have to believe that we coukd better spend that much.

Unless he puts Lallana out wide in a 4-3-3 this won't be happening as frequently as you think.

There's plenty of game time for both though, Coutinho can play wide left of the front three, we've got four competitions to play in. He just wants depth and quality within that. I don't see how Lallana is particularly superior though.

I don't think handing in a transfer request matters all that much. Not like Southampton are going to drop their valuation by £5 million just because Lallana says out loud he wants the transfer.

It matters a great deal because he'd be waving goodbye to whatever payoff he'd be due from Southampton, and therefore allowing them to lower their valuation of him.

It's time we walk away from this deal - I don't know why an AM has become a priority signing this summer.

A CB, LB and a third striker are far more important IMO. I'd like to get competition in for Coutinho, but Shaqiri and Cabella are much cheaper alternatives.

If we spent 25-30 million on Lallana, and end up without funds to buy a top CB, we won't really have strengthened much. I can pretty much guarantee that if we signed a top CB, he'd be our signing of the summer come the end of the season.

Who said it is the sole priority ? It may be one of 2 or 3 priorities and in fact judging from the Moreno offer and Lovren interest I'd say just that. 3 priorities (the other being CB) and possibly still to come 3 not so much of a priority but still very much required (Can +2). We made a lot of money last season and there was talk of £65M in the kitty plus sales. Sounds about right the way we are trying to get our transfer business done early and the offers/interest we have shown so far.

Er, when in my post did I suggest that it seemed like the 'sole' priority?

In any case, it wouldn't even be on my list of top 3 positions to strengthen - those for me are CB, LB and the third striker.

If we use this window just to sort out those 3 positions for the next 5 years, I'd be more than made up with this window. Anything else would be just a bonus.

So I'd be pursuing Lovren and Sanchez with far greater vigour than Lallana for instance.

He's Rodgers' first choice, and I want him to get his first choices.

We can't do a public weak kneed capitulation, If he do, we'll end up paying $10M more for every player. We've been good at putting some steel back in our reputation, so let's not play over the odds for an older player.

Otherwise every public offer or final offer is never taken as such.

Sorry, not sure where I got 'sole priority' from.

3rd Striker - we've just signed him. I don't think there are going to be any more until next year or unless the worst happens and Real come up with £100m for Suarez.

Next 5 years ? In footballing terms that is an eternity. Lambert is that striker for the next 1-2 years (I guess if we continue to go from strength to strength then we'll add a 4th next Summer or, if we suffer a major injury, in January). LB is just about done isn't it. That leaves CB and I agree with you on Lovren - though as far as we know we are already in discussions with Southampton, especially since this statement "Southampton Football Club can confirm that we have received multiple offers for some of our players" makes it sound likely (unless it is just Lallana, Lambert and Shaw to United).

Sanchez ? Not an option, Barca have said very clearly he is not going anywhere, so pursuing him with 'greater vigour' would be a waste of time and energy.

Incidentally, people keep asking about alternatives to Lallana - what about a player we've been linked to for a while, Lazar Markovic?

He's 20 or so and looks like he could become the complete attacking midfielder, and is already performing at a high standard. I would think we could get him quite easily for the £25m we've offered for Lallana.

I'd take him and his eye brows.

I'd put my faith in BR at this point. As owner I'd pay up, shut up, act like big spenders. That strategy will have other possible signings itching to get picked up by us, we'd have shown we mean business.

Anything else is a loss of nerve and a lack of ambition. It's like saying "we like you Brendan and we'll give you a personal contract but we won't give you the tools you request". Wanky.

We got 97m+ last season just from telly, we can fill up Brendan's transfer wallet. I'd say it was a fair bet he'll get further improvement from the cash.

He looks exceptional.

Markovic is a great talent. I think however that his ownership situation is quite complex. Chelsea have a first right on half his rights I think and the rest belongs to an investment group.

It'd be great if Soton prevent us from signing Lallana. The longer this pursuit has dragged on the less I like it.

I mean, this is basically a move to replace Coutinho in the first XI isn't it? I don't see the point. If he is better, which IMO is doubtful, the difference is marginal. And probably temporary, as Coutinho is almost certain to mature into a better player than Lallana will ever be. And for £25m - at least.

I'm sorry but it just looks like shit business to me.

"the first XI"

Does Tony Evans know his shit? He just said Lalana will be tied up soon. Also that we'll spend 70 million plus playoffs sales

if true we should be buying the likes of draxler, markovic and so on, players bubbling away below the world class threshold but needing a stage to do it - a bit like Suarez!
