Adam Lallana

Lallana is also extremely unhappy that the Saints board aren't answering his calls. He wants the move, they want 30m and are aren't talking to him from the sounds of it.

To be fair to Saints, I rather sell Shaw for £27m than Lallana for £25m.
Not to mention they don't really have to sell to begin with...

Liverpool’s attempt to sign Adam Lallana has reached an impasse with Southampton refusing to lower their £30 million valuation of the England player despite his desire to move to Anfield.

Lallana has been the subject of two bids from Liverpool who increased their initial offer of £20 million to £25 million on Friday on the condition that the proposed deal was concluded without delay and with a warning that they would turn their attention to other targets, such as Xherdan Shaqiri, of Bayern Munich, and Manchester City’s James Milner, if it was not.

That ultimatum is yet to have the desired effect, with Southampton showing a reluctance to sanction the departure of their captain before the World Cup unless Liverpool raise their offer by a further £5 million.

However, there was better news for Brendan Rodgers’s team last night with Liverpool close to agreeing an £18 million fee with Seville for Alberto Moreno, the left back, having earlier had a £16 million bid turned down.

With Liverpool adamant that their latest bid for Lallana is also their final offer, the stalemate between the clubs means that the forward looks set to go into the World Cup with his future shrouded in uncertainty unless there is a breakthrough soon.

The situation is complicated by Southampton owing 25 per cent of the proceeds of any transfer fee received for Lallana to Bournemouth, his former club. They continue to seek £30 million for the 26-year-old as it would allow them to clear £24 million from his sale, but Liverpool feel that valuation is excessive even though he is one of Brendan Rodgers’s main targets for the summer transfer window.

Liverpool are also wary of the possibility of rival clubs entering the race to sign Lallana if he performs well for England in Brazil, hence their desire to finalise the proposed move before the tournament starts but also their refusal to allow their interest to be used to provoke an auction.

The longer the deadlock remains unbroken, the more likely it is that Liverpool will give up on Lallana and turn their attentions to an alternative target. Shaqiri remains their favoured option, having already registered their interest in the Switzerland player with Bayern.

With Shaqiri admitting that he may need to leave Bayern to fulfil his potential, Liverpool are considering giving the 22-year-old the opportunity to revitalise his career in the Premier League after he featured only 17 times under Pep Guardiola last season.

“I am young and need to develop myself,” Shaqiri said. “I want to play in the big games from the beginning, and not just in the league when everything is already clear. I want to play at a top club as the Champions League is important to me. We will see what happens but I want to fulfil my contract.

“I’m not going to go through another year like this. If not much changes, then I will have to change something. I am only disappointed because I have played less. I felt [Jupp] Heynckes had more faith in me, but that’s maybe also because Guardiola talks with us less.”

One piece of business that Liverpool look set to conclude with Southampton is the signing of Rickie Lambert after the forward passed a medical on Saturday. The £4 million transfer is likely to be finalised today with only minor administrative issues to be completed for the 32-year-old to become a Liverpool player.

Like several Premier League clubs, Liverpool have been made aware of the availability of Cesc Fàbregas, who has been placed on the transfer market by Barcelona with a valuation of £30 million. Although Rodgers is an admirer of the former Arsenal midfield player, he has not shown any interest in him and would prefer to move for Alexis Sánchez, his Barcelona team-mate, if there is any possibility of the 25-year-old leaving the Nou Camp.

We don't actually need Lallana, we want him, but we dont actually need him. It's not like we have zero goalkeepers and we have to buy. Southampton can fuck off. I'd put the pressure on the player now, if you want to stay at a sinking Southampton, coming into the highlight of your career, then stay there, otherwise, if you want champions league football, put in a transfer request. No other team are interested in him by the looks of it.

I think 25, part ex or no part ex is is too much. At 30 it's just taking the piss.

"The forward" it amazes me journalists get these things wrong, even the likes of Tony Barrett.

I like that we're playing hard ball.

Tbh I reckon most england players will struggle to really shine at the world cup, playing under Hodgson being his usual pragmatic self & in that heat.

Edit: it may be an editor or sub editor making the error, being unfair to Barrett there probably.

You're right, there's more chance of England players coming back on a hiding than there is a chance of them getting glowing reports and their value rocketing.

I doubt it TBH but then I don't actually think he's made a mistake. I certainly think of Lallana more as a forward who comes from deep than as a midfield player.

Fair enough, perhaps it's me that's wrong then, I think of him more like Coutinho, only with a lot more running, consistency & effectiveness, & a fair bit less flair.

The Club has issued the following statement in relation to interest in a number of its players and the departure of Rickie Lambert…

Southampton Football Club can confirm that we have received multiple offers for some of our players in the past weeks. This is a confirmation of the depth of the development that is ongoing in our academy and of the present standing of our first team within the Premier League.

We are staying true to our plan and vision and, as a result, we have no need to accept any offers. We are deep in the process of appointing a new manager who will continue to move our club forward. It remains our preference not to partake in any transfers until the new manager is in place. Our scouting & recruitment department continues to monitor targets we have identified to improve our squad, and the new manager will have final input into our recruitment process.

However, Southampton Football Club can confirm that it has reached agreement with Liverpool for the transfer of Rickie Lambert.

There may be circumstances under which the club will feel it is right for a player to move on. Those circumstances have to be right for the club and the player. This is the case with Rickie’s move to Liverpool.

When Rickie Lambert requested to leave for Liverpool, the club felt it could not stand in the way of having him fulfil his boyhood dream of playing at home. It will be a big challenge to replace him and our intention is to source a quality replacement who will fill his shoes now but also for many years to come.

Chairman Ralph Krueger commented: “On behalf of the club, I would like to thank Rickie. He served with distinction and helped to take Saints from League 1 to the Premier League.

“Rickie has been a shining light in Saints’ growth and will forever remain an icon in the history of the club. He leaves with the best wishes of everyone at Southampton and will always be welcome back at St Mary’s.”

As the Echo reported today, Lallana will have to hand in an transfer request to force their hand atm. Big question is if that will happen.

TBH that Southampton statement to me is fair enough. They're saying they don't want to sell Lallana, not yet anyway, which would account for the fee they're quoting.

That said, there's no way we should up our final offer. Lallana needs to get his agent to put pressure on the club now, and we need to actively pursue other options if we aren't doing so already. If one of them comes off and the Lallana deal dies as a result, so be it.

I don't think handing in a transfer request matters all that much. Not like Southampton are going to drop their valuation by £5 million just because Lallana says out loud he wants the transfer.

25-30m for lallana is just mental . i hope we are saved from ourselves .

They want him to hand in a transfer request, which I guess would soften the blow of some of the money that they'll lose to Bournemouth.

We shouldn't go above our valuation though, he's not worth £25m but we were always going to pay in excess of what he's worth, I think it's completely right that we stand our ground over fees, we were taken the piss out of for far too long, so you have to draw a line somewhere. I just hope some fans don't mark it off again as a lack of ambition. If a lack of ambition is offering £25m for a player who's 26 and has had two good top flight seasons, then the transfer World really has gone bonkers and the mentality is over extravagant. I don't think Fabregas would come here and I think he'd command probably twice the wages, but when you've got him valued at only £5m more, it puts some perspective on English Premium.

I really like Lallana and think he's a good fit, but at the right price, like most transfers.

Yea, I think we set a precedent of sorts last year with Suarez. Although being a vastly more secure club, we did have an advantage. I think they'll crumble eventually, especially as it seems no one else is going to be in for him above 25m.

Lallana is a So'ton player and we have to respect the club. He will have to hand in a transfer request and its their prerogative on whether to accept it or not. He is contracted to them.

This is dragging on for too long. Move on to the next target.

It'd be great if Soton prevent us from signing Lallana. The longer this pursuit has dragged on the less I like it.

I mean, this is basically a move to replace Coutinho in the first XI isn't it? I don't see the point. If he is better, which IMO is doubtful, the difference is marginal. And probably temporary, as Coutinho is almost certain to mature into a better player than Lallana will ever be. And for £25m - at least.

I'm sorry but it just looks like shit business to me.

Lallana at this point in time IS the better player no doubt.

His actual footballing ability is very very good and his consistency is incredible. This is why we are after him. He does suit our system almost perfectly.

Where i agree you is that he almost seems a luxury player for us right now in that we could be tackling the CM spot more heavily e.g fabregas, kroos, martinez etc and this would help us a lot more moving forward, and for the balance of the team.
