Zielinski is a talented and combative midfielder, but I don't quite get the logic of buying him now - we already have several players with similar qualities in the team. I wonder if we've actually been scouting Peter's teammate Paredes all along.

Yeah I think our central midfield options are a bit thin on the ground, to be honest. Henderson and Milner fit within Klopp's high energy style of play, and Emre Can is improving greatly, but Allen seems injury prone and Lucas seems to play better at CB these days. Then you're down to Kevin Stewart who is a long way off being someone we can rely on.

I think it's likely zielinski will replace Allen?whose probably off back to Swansea

Translation via someone on Reddit:

"Most probably Zieliński will become Liverpool player before Wednesday, and it's going to be really big thing. What would you say Krzysiek?"
"Yeah big thing definitely..."
"So tomorrow, the transfer is going to be finalized, right?"
"Yeah, it's going to be finished. It was close in January ..."
"He was there, with Jurgen Klopp, right?"
"Yes, but it was too little time back then ... some discrepancies between clubs. But everything on track ..."
"See, You'll have Pole in Liverpool ... 🙂 you won't feel bad about it... "
"Yeah, big thing, big thing"

I think it's the same amount as this "goalscoring midfielder" you're quacking on about.

From what I've seen he's seems to be a more creative player than both Henderson and Allen.
He's still young and maybe he hasn't set the Seria A alight but 5 goals and 6 assists is pretty decent.
He's not simply a runner.

Reddit is the home of hands-down the WORST LFC football fan forum in the entire world.

It makes RAWK look like.....er........sixcrazyminutes.
Possibly but that's kind of irrelevant when it comes to translating what's being said in a video.

Canal + have today suggested #LFC have agreed a £9m deal with Udinese for Zieliński

Like rurik, I'm a bit unsure about this Zielinski guy. He seems best suited to playing the 'third midfielder' role, a lot like Milner. Whereas our pressing need is someone for the 'second midfielder' role - competition for Henderson basically. Perhaps Klopp thinks that Grujic is the guy for that position?

I'd really want to see us pay more attention to this position. We have a smashing prospect in midfield in Can, and if we get the right partner for him, we could potentially have one of the most promising central midfields in Europe.

Perhaps, but for £9m, this deal may be considered opportunistic - similar to Can, who wasn't expected to walk into the starting 11, but too good to pass up.

I wold be quite happy for a 21 year old "a lot like Milner" and the price should still leave plenty in the bank to pursue other priorities.

Just want to add that he's turning 22 in a few days.

Dawid Chylaszek, Zielinski's agent: "We're pretty far with one club already & it could lead to a signature in the next couple of hours."

I youtubed Zielinski and he looks pretty exciting to me.

Very fast, attacking minded, sharp passer. One of those guys that moves the ball from Defence to Attack in the shortest amount of time, doesn't dwell on the ball and seems to be everywhere and be involved in everything.

He's 21, highly rated, and seems to be very eager to come to Liverpool. Also, he's £9m.

Just from youtube alone, he seems a million times better than Grujic, who some of you seem to think is first team material but frankly looks no better than some of our youth team prospects.

With Grujic it's more about potential. He's nowhere near ready for the first team.

Alberto said that Klopp have been talking to him a lot.
I found the article, Klopp talks to all of our loanees.
Alberto has done OK abroad, but he's really not the right type of player for us. He's not a bad player but Klopp wants runners in midfield and he's more of a static player. He belongs in the Spanish league.

Not sure I quite get the difference between "third midfielder" and "second midfielder" – to me Hendo and Milner are pretty similar animals (that's why I think they shouldn't play together in midfield, it's one or the other), but if you want a player who will complement Can and compete with Hendo, I would think someone like Dahoud is the ideal candidate – a playmaker and creator who also never stops running. Zielinski is also a good runner, but I think his best attacking quality is that burst of pace and not so much playmaking or passing.

Now, my knowledge of the player is quite limited and I would definitely trust Klopp's judgement – if he thinks we need this type of player, he probably has a plan. I just hope we buy a playmaker as well.

That's my impression too, but if he were to somehow fit into Klopp's midfield and find that energy and aggression that he requires, he would be one hell of a player. Because his technique is top-notch and he can do everything – the question is can he do everything fast enough?

I'm referring basically to their vertical positions on the pitch - the third midfielder is the one who's the most advanced in a midfield three (in either a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3), or who has the license to go down the wing - as Milner often does. The second midfielder is the one who plays next to the holding mid/pivot - but doesn't obviously sit the whole game - he has the license to move forward on occasion, but still has the responsibility of ensuring that there's no gaping hole in the centre of the park.

And I think Henderson and Milner are quite different actually. Milner is better technically than Henderson - it goes unnoticed, but Milner actually has very quick feet, and a low centre of gravity. While he doesn't have the pace to be an effective dribbler, he's quite good on the turn. It's why he's so effective on the wing. Henderson on the other hand often has a heavy touch, and isn't nimble enough to play on the wing. He mostly ends up running in a straight line whenever he finds himself there.

Henderson's best position I think is in that midfield two. At his best, he's a combative force and effective at spraying passes around as well. He also is much better than Milner at holding that midfield position. I'm always concerned about the gaps that appear in midfield when Milner plays as the second midfielder.

You're right that Henderson and Milner haven't really been good together at any point of time this season, but I think that has more to do with Henderson's poor form than with them being similar animals.

I've forgotten all about him. With the right training and some gym time (like Origi) I'm sure he could gain enough speed and strength. He does have a wonderful technique. If Lallana can make it in a Klopp team, then I'm pretty sure Alberto can as well.

In terms of a 4-2-3-1, if we have Coutinho, Firmino, Gotze, Lallana, Markovic, Milner and Alberto to pick from, its pretty decent.

Assuming we are sticking with 4-2-3-1, where will this Zielinski play? He seems caught in the middle ground between the '2' and the '3'. Sounds like the type of player who would be more comfortable in a 4-3-3, much like Allen, Henderson and Milner.

I'm concerned that we are buying another small and lightweight midfielder.. however, The videos are promising..

It always helps having someone direct with the ability to dribble past players in the centre of the park. It opens up space and 'possibilities'

Unusual to see a CM with a Hazard-like (really!) successful dribbles average. I can see a bit of resemblance to Mkhitaryan now.
