A Captain for a Captain

With Masher leaving we've lost out on not only a great defensive midfielder but also a leader.

We have however brought in a new captain in Christian Poulsen: In tough competition with Daniel Agger he has been chosen to wear the captains armbancy at International-level for Denmark by national coach Morten Olsen.

Hopefully that can do wonders for his confidence at Liverpool too.

Talking about leaders, Raul Meireles has got leadership-abilities as well hasn't he? I know Ronaldo wears the armbancy for Portugal (something I find rather odd to be honest) but wouldn't Meireles be next in line or thereabouts?

Don't think either of them ever wore the armband. If this were a "worst player ever to play for Liverpool" thread there'd be better candidates than either of them or Lucas, poor as they are.

Presume he is. He cost decent money and seems to be Roy's major signing. Poulsen and Lucas isn't an effective CM. I'd start against Brum.

I think you'll get heat for only mentioning the two Danes along with Meireles. Kuyt has worn the captain armband for us (against Sunderland) and has worn it in the past in Holland. Pepe would be a fine captain but i'd rather an outfield player.

I mentioned Agger only as part of the 'quote' from Danish medias with regards to Poulsen getting the captaincy and did so as he's a Liverpool-player too.

I then mentioned Meireles as a potential leader as he's another one we've just bought. I didn't mention Carra, Reina, Kuyt, Gerrard etc as they've not just arrived. It was about leaders in the team leaving and coming in.

I thought as much was rather obvious?

Anyways bring the 'heat' then.

Haha yeah that will be very interesting and probably rather telling.

I just don't hope we'll see Agger at LB again anytime soon. Not beneficial for the team nor him as a player.

Cole is still suspended though? If not then I reckon he plays in the hole and it's Poulsen and Gerrard in central.
