The scuttlebutt at the time was that what got Hodgson the job was his assurance that he could get the best out of the players we had, so he was a miserable failure by his own standards, let alone anyone else's. The club was not in a good state overall, but Hodgson was in over his head by a very wide margin and made a poor situation positively catastrophic.

I still have the program at home from his last match in charge at home to Wolves.

In his pre game notes he said the game was a 6 pointer and that the Wolves of the world were now our level and the fans had to adjust to that.

We got beat 1-0, created nothing and but it in the world performance I've ever seen live.
