Wasnt teh exit poll wrong a while back, seem to remember when I was younger it said Hung & was Tory.

92?
Yeah. I think I might actually have cried that night. Poor Neil Kinnock.

I think the exit polls are based on a limited amount of constitutencies and at a rough estimate I'd say all those figures could end up +/- 10%ish.

It was a shock on a similar scale to how people would feel if Brown were re-elected tonight. Major was generally considered a lame-duck candidate, and we'd been waiting 13 years to get rid of the Tories. It really was weird.

You'll never get a true representation of what Britain wants till you get proportional representation, so there'll always be strange results.

It's a fucking stupid system that's currently in place.

307 for Cons
255 Lab
59 Lib
29 other
based on exit polls.

326 needed for an outright winner.

Depends whether you believe that your local MP really does represent your local consituency. If you do believe that, then PR won't work. Maybe we should just move to a presidential system, like the French and Americans?

If that exit poll is correct, then not only the Lib Dems but even the minority parties are going to have a say in who's PM. Anyone know how the 29 'others' would divide up?

Well I think NI provides 18 seats, so a mixture of Shinners, DUP, SDLP and Independents. Then the Welsh mob and Scots Nationalists. The Tories may well make a deal with the NI Unionists.

How many Unionists and UKIP are there likely to be? The Tories, on that exit poll, would need an extra 8 seats, wouldn't they?

The DUP and Ulster Unionists (who are now officially allied to the Tories) would give them that. When I say Independents, in NI it is proper independent candidates rather than UKIP.

Sky now suggesting a Lib-Lab-others coalition to get a referendum on voting reform.
I don't think a Lib/Lab coalition will necessarily be enough. I have a feeling a Conservative/Unionist alliance is more likely. Unfortunately.

First blood to Labour in Houghton Sunderland.
If the Tories had taken a seat there it would have been a fucking huge shock I'm guessing.

Does this show my age btw that I'm actually kinda a little bit more involved in all this?

Yup apparently so, it did swing closer to Tories though. BNP down 2% also

Errr some polling stations still open!
They were supposed to close at 10 p.m, some people turned away not allowed to vote...errr that's a bit of a mess up.
Though really 7 am - 10pm thats enough time to vote!

1-0 to the mighty reds

;D

It's gonna be a long night, but COME ON LADS!

The exit poll is much lower for Lib dem than the scm swingometer led us to believe.

The exit poll is based on seats though. The Libdems may well have 30% of the vote.

Also, out of curiosity have any celeb type figures said they will leave the county should Cons win or Lab stay in?
I seem to remember a few saying they would leave the country last time.

2-0 Labour now..but not looking good, these are very safe Labour seats and the swings are pretty large.
