Okay, so our defence can't really head the ball. So what do we do? Carry on with this pairing and work to block the cross more or something or do we play Kgryiakos more? He's clearly 4th choice, but unless up against quick forwards he's strong in the tackle and a fucking monster in the air which i think is what we really need right now. Thoughts?

I've been saying this since the start of the season, but people here insist on playing Carragher, despite the fact that Kyrgiakos has been better than him.

Carra and the Greek.

Sorted.

I fail to see anything in Skittles and we need some height in there.

I see you've gone for pace there.

We're playing that deep now anyways does it really matter?

The Greek isn't the answer and especially not in place of Carragher.
If we play him regularly, opposition managers will simply instruct their attackers not to attack aerially but to exploit the fact he turns slower than a grounded battleship . He's no Sami Hyypia in that he doesn't have the postional intelligence to make up for his lack of pace. What we would gain in aerial ability, we would lose more in other depts.

Skrtel/Agger should be the new CB partnership.. carra is clearly in decline as ive been saying for a year now. soto is slow and would get raped by quicker players like he did in the game against Steau which cost us a goal

Yep. We've got no real big presence at the back (and Zorba isn't good enough). Neither Carra, Agger or Skrtel are up to that role.

Yep. We need a Vidic/young Sami-type defender.

A beast in the air and quick enough to deal with most forwards.

United's third goal yesterday was a real wake up call for us, we can't cope in the air. We better get that sorted for the Sunderland and Blackburn games in particular. I'd say Kyrgiakos should play in both those with Skrtel making way.

No matter how you address our CB issue leaving out Agger is nothing short of stupid. Unless of course we are contemplating to cash in on him come January.

After the game yesterday Agger was interviewed at Old Trafford and he said a few interesting (scary) things:

1. Gutted after loosing after such a splendid comeback evidently
2. Obviosuly not happy to be benched but keeps on working his hardest at the training ground trying to convince Roy he's his man.
3. We've changed our ways to address the game from the back he said. Under Rafa we were told to build up play with the ball on the ground whereas Roy wants us to play more direct and play long balls. Agger said it's not his favourite way to address the game but he obviously needs to somehow adapt without moving away from his own priniciples to get into the team.

To be honest I'm not excited by Roy's new approach nor his choice of personel. Don't get me wrong Skrtel was the better defender against the Mancs but the Carra and Skrtel pairing is not going to move us anywhere but sideways.

Agger can't be serious there. How have we played hoof ball? I mean besides when carra has no other options

He told the journo that the way the players are instructed to be playing now differs from Rafa's approach as he was first and foremost interested in us building up play from the back whereas Roy wants them to go longer more often. He then said that he prefers to play football on the ground and smiled. Something along those lines.

To be perfectly honest I'm livid by the fact that out best defender is not only benched but now used as our back-up for the LB-positon.

We are NOT Fulham Roy. We should always make way to the best players even though they might be a little less physical adjust than others. At the Blackburns and Fulhams of this world bigger and stronger is perhaps the better option now and then but it shouldn't be the case in a club like ours. We shouldn't be affraid of trying to play to our strengths and chose class ahead of grit.

I've seen rumours that we're in for Brums Lt. Dann so he's probably already pondering his options with regards to Aggers future because Roy knows that he won't accept to be benched for another Season.

Yeah a real load of heading ability in the combo.

I've not seen the defence resorting to hoofing that often. If anything, we've been guilty of passing it about aimlessly around deep in our own half too often.

Perhaps Agger is trying to make excuses to the reporters back home as to why he's not in the team.

Yes, that is exactly what we have been guilty of, lots of side passing basically.

I would probably play Agger ahead of Skrtel at a push, although I rate them both so its not my major concern at the moment

All of the sideway passing could perhaps indicate that our defenders are instructed NOT to bring the ball out on the floor and either 1) pass it to the nearest midfielder or 2) hit it long.

PS I've just posted his interview elsewhere but mods feel free to merge. I just felt it needed a thread of it's own. Because I'm a bit angry and hungry.

Exactly right, mistakes like that from Carra just proove that ive been right all along and that people are backing him more only because he is a scouse

People are backing him (rightly or wrongly) because he's given around 10 years wonderful service to the club. Not because he's from Liverpool.

Granted, however his current level of play needs to merit inclusion in the first team.

Gerrard has given this club 10 years of wonderful service.
Carra about 4 wonderful, 4 average and two shite years. The last couple of years really proved that Hyypia was our best defender despite Carra getting all the plaudits.
OK, I'm being hard on Carra, it's not all blac and white but I think Zlatan has a point, if Carra wasn't scouse he would have got the Insua treatment a long time ago.

That's shite. It was a perfectly weighted pass for their goal and sometimes it's appropriate to hold hands up and acknowledge a well worked goal.

The Greek lad is clearly not in Sami's class however I'd play him until we find someone better and equally dominant in the air.

Yeah i agree it was a well worked goal, but it also happened because Soto was too slow to react and by the time he did react he was too slow to catch up to the goal scorer. I like Soto, but our best defenders at the moment go

Agger > Skrtel > Carra > Soto
