Pleased for McLaughlin, he seemed to blossom as the game wore on.

As to his position, I really really don't see him as a winger. He's got all the attributes to be a good attacking full back. That has to be his best chance.

All very promising this with Teixeira. It was only a couple of weeks ago I was saying that he was going to struggle to make it from here and that the bare minimum he needed was a really positive loan spell. Well he's certainly rising to the challenge. I suppose with him it's easy to get hung up on his age and his slow progress in his first 2 years with us, but the bottom line is that at the start of next season he'll still be just 22, which isn't so bad in his position.

He's made great strides in the last 8 months.

Bad camera angles are probably my biggest football pet hate. Did you see the state of it at the Burnley game last night? What the fuck was going on there?? They used to have pretty much the perfect view the last time they were up, now it's as bad as anything I've seen in the professional game.

Incidentally the angle will change slightly at Anfield once the new stand is built, because the cameras are being moved into the stand what with the old position being demolished and all.

Hope that doesn't fuck things up too much.

Indeed! That bad angle made the Fabregas pass seem much better than it actually was.

Ibe on loan to Bolton?

Surely we could have found a premier league loan for him?...

Really irritated by this. Bolton are going to struggle all season and Ibe's been there and done that before at that level. He's a really exciting talent who could thrive at this club if given a chance. Sterling was almost sent out on loan before he showed what he can do. There's no exact science to this, but this loan strikes me as a diversion rather than progress.

Virtually every time Ibe's played for the first team he's made some kind of significant contribution. A mazy dribble or a chance created. More than any young player since Owen he draws opponents and just makes things happen. More so even than Sterling when he first got appearances. I'm not saying Ibe's as good, but he's definitely got something there that can be useful for us right now.

I think he should only have been loaned if we could get him to a really good club, and preferably in the PL.

How useful is he going to be when Lallana and Markovic are fit and we get a third striker?

Yeah and Suso.

How about a billion times more useful than Suso?

Ok, we're going to play 1 up front, right? That probably means 2 wide forwards, doesn't it? We've got Sterling, and Markovic. And Lallana and Coutinho who can do a passable job there. You don't see that with our other commitments Ibe will be worth a place on the bench perhaps every other league game and can start in the cup?

Aha, and what if we get another striker like Suarez and push him to the wing?

I'd rather see him start than have him on the bench every other game. Or playing in league cup games.

Maybe not the right place but at least it's about youngsters !

Ian Rush : “Liverpool FC has millions of fans in Japan and they will be pleased to know that the club is keen to help develop the grassroots the game in this country.”

Didn't see the game but based on the highlights posted above McLaughlin really had a good game.
He looks dangerous in attack, something I already knew but what a performance.
I really hope he stays fit. The talent is there.

[article=https://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/news/football-australia-claim-liverpools-smith-socceroos-call-014843820--sow.html]Australia coach Ange Postecoglou has called England U21 international Brad Smith into his squad for next month's Asian Cup warm-ups against Belgium and Saudi Arabia.

The 20-year-old Liverpool left-back was born in Australia to British parents and moved to England when he was 14, going on to represent the country at U17, U19 and U21 levels.

Smith will be sidelined for several weeks after injuring his knee while on loan at Swindon Town last week, though, suggesting his call-up is a bid to secure his services for the Socceroos.

"Brad's a player we have been monitoring since I've been in the job and he plays in a position where we don't have a great deal of depth. He plays left back and left side and he's quick," Postecoglou said.

"Brad's played for the England U21s as recently as a couple of months ago but he's very committed to playing for Australia and after having a chat to him we are really keen to get him in the green and gold and give him an opportunity."

Smith was one of four uncapped players in Postecoglou's first squad since the World Cup, where Australia lost all three matches but gained some credibility with competitive performances against Chile and the Netherlands.

They play friendlies against World Cup quarter-finalists Belgium on September 4 in Liege and Saudi Arabia in London four days later as they continue preparations for the Asian Cup, which takes place in Australia next January.

The other uncapped players are Aston Villa's versatile Chris Herd, FC Zwolle defender Trent Sainsbury and Bailey Wright, the Preston North End central defender who was included in the World Cup squad but never got a game.

Bayer Leverkusen striker Robbie Kruse, who missed the World Cup because of injury, returns to the squad, which includes 12 players who went to Brazil, including striker Tim Cahill and skipper Mile Jedinak.

Squad: Terry Antonis, Joshua Brillante, Tim Cahill, Jason Davidson, Ben Halloran, Chris Herd, Mile Jedinak, Tomi Juric, Robbie Kruse, Mitchell Langerak, Matthew Leckie, Massimo Luongo, Mark Milligan, Tommy Oar, Mat Ryan, Trent Sainsbury, Brad Smith, Carl Valeri, Alex Wilkinson, Bailey Wright.[/article]

The U-21's play Man Utd tonight, 7pm KO on LFCTV as usual and BTSport2 for a change. It'll be nice to watch them in HD without the vaseline smeared across the screen.

One change from the last match for the U21 vs Utd. Harry Wilson comes in for Randall. Kick off in 5 minutes.
