2-2 vs Man City, After Game Thoughts

Like I said last night, liking Stewart Downing is not the reason.

Your right there are probably a number of reasons, mainly because I don't agree with them on many things - they all seem to get upset very easily if you say anything bad about the team. All I suggested was it may be nice to have scored from open play - becuase in 180 minutes of fooball we have yet to do that. I will keep trying to win some of my fellow supporters over to my way of thinking.

Just read it - I am aware of it, its because I touch type and I find it difficult to quickly move the little finger on the right hand to the apostraphe symbol. Too much wanking has damaged the ability to seperate the fingers quickly without feeling pain. Understand ?

No, you're reading too much into it. We're all entitled to our opinions. Even I've said before that I can see Downing coming good for us, and that I thought he gets a rougher time of it than he deserves. But like I said, that's nothing to do with it.

The reason people don't take to you is actually very very simple. It's purely because you talk so much bollocks.

And your an idiot for being so happy that that is the only way we could actually score.

You mean you don't worry that we cannot score from open play and have to rely on set pieces to have a chance ? - thats the sort of thing thats associated with Stoke not LFC. There is nothing wrong with the way we scored, but I would prefer if we could have created more chances from open play than the single clear chance created by Sterling for Borini. Its an indicator that we have the ability to score goals by playing football with the ball as a team and give us confidence in the future that when we are behind we can be threat.

We created as much as they did, they scored through two gifts, we scored through two set pieces, they hit the post, we had three glaring opportunities 'just' miss the target (Gerrard's cross which was diverted by Kompany, Borini's volley and Suarez's fluff wide after being played in by Borini). It was pretty even, though we were quite dominant for spells, in the second game of the season, with a new manager, and new players against the Champions playing with more or less the same side they had last season.

Get real.

What about Yaya's comments after the game:

"the hardest game I've played in since I've been in England".

As is pointed out in another site it makes one recall BR's comment in his first press conference where he said opponents leaving Anfield should think they've just had,

"the longest 90 minutes of their life".

So we are all in agreement that if Borini plays he should be in the middle yes with Saurez out wide?

No - because at times he is as invisible as Henderson is when he plays.

Oh by the way everyone - that Carroll header - if you thought that really timid header was going to hit the back of the net then you need to have your eyes checked out.

And you wonder why people have a pop?

Borini has played 2 games in a new league, and has looked bright in both if not a little bit unclinical.

And the fact that the header was cleared off the line, suggests it was going in had a defender not been there.

🙄

1) I have noticed Borini when he misses chances just like I notice when Henderson plays and kicks the ball to the heavens. I think to myself in both cases "Oh shit - he is still on the pitch I thought we were playing with 10 men". Also I think Borini needs to take a rest, and if that Osama fellow is cleared for playing - he should start tomorrow with Suarez in the middle.

2) That header was cleared off the line but watching it in real-time you knew someone would save it from going in coz it was never hit with enough power, now forgive me if you think a big lumbering waste of £35M should have hit the damn thing a little harder. Did the same mistake in the cup final, one would think coming from Newcastle he would have perfected the art of headbutting, and therefore have a powerfull header but no, even thats too much to ask of the big man.

This arguement everyones having with me is silly, I never said we played badly - I just said we need to create a few more clear chances.

My point is it's way too early to early to compare Borini to anyone, let alone frigging Henderson (who actually was invisible in one of Borini's games).

And secondly, watch the header again. It's not nearly as underpowered as you think, and it was standing from 15 yards out. I'll give criticism to Andy when it's due, but that wasn't a bad header and in the poxy 8 minutes he was on, he looked well.

I don't 100% disagree with moron here (I know!). I can see his point, and I thought the same, we didn't create that many CLEAR goalscoring chances. Neither did they, mind, which is obviously a positive. We were by far the better team, and deserved to win. But we did this so often last season in the big games and would be absolute shit against the smaller teams.

I wouldn't say we've turned the corner, not by a long shot. The real tests early this season will be against the likes of Sunderland, Reading and Norwich. I think they're in the next few games? I would see it as a far greater sign of improvement if we can keep up the same level of performance as we did against City against those teams. We know all too well that we can get up for the big games, but against the smaller teams we can be just as spectacularly turgid - just as we were against West Brom.

I think it could go either way at the minute, but the game against City was definitely cause for optimism. Let's just hope it's not another false dawn.

THANK YOU SIR !!!

Oi !!! - you Say Steady one more time Halmeister and your off back home on the next plane !!!

I've just read you're post in the Glen Johnson thread and I'm thinking of having myself committed for agreeing with you here. I mean, obviously, I'm mental.

The thing is, Hal, we played Man City, The Champions. We weren't expected to have that many clear cut chances. Even, if we were limited to goals from headers and free kicks, we took them with aplomb.

They have a team assembled with seasoned pros, that was formed from a very large transfer kitty and that's played together for over a season. We had a newly formed team, under a new season of a total of 1 PL game playing a new system and we dominated them for a large portion of the game. Liverpool was definitely the driving team in the game with Man City reacting to our play. If only we didn't gift them those goals...

And agreed, Liverpool always step up their game against the big team. The minor teams will be our challenge.

Oh yeah, I know that RM. I'm not debating that at all. The fact that we scored 2 goals, and limited them to very few chances is extremely encouraging. However we were largely shit last season, but played very well in 3 of the 4 games we had against City this past year. We were good on Sunday, though, and we took some of our half chances for a change instead of squandering sitters.

However, it would be just like us to not score any goals against Sunderland, Reading and Norwich. Those games will be a true barometer of our progress.

The key thing is, lots to be encouraged by, definitely not the finished article but the most important thing is to not bitch that the only way Liverpool scores is via headers and free kicks only. Only an illiterate idiot would post that.

If he was illiterate how could he have posted that ? and how could you have understood it to be that ? perhaps your the idiot you are talking about.
