weren't we supposed to let Mersin go? Seems to be the best keeper in the reserves.

Rumours last season were that he was supposed to be released along with a few others, but I suppose we ended up retaining him instead. Including this one, he's started the last 4 games. Ward started all the other games this season I believe, except for the first match - Mersin was the custodian in that game.

Have we been going around signing up every young "Jordan" playing football?

LFC: #LFCU18s team to face Man United: Crump, Waldron, Hart, Whelan, Roberts, Chirivella, Canos, Griffin, Sinclair, Trickett-Smith, Ojo.

Substitutes: Randall, Wheeler, Wilson, Virtue, Kent

Ward and is injured and so is Fulton so not surprising to see him start. Both are better keepers and from what I seen so far Fulton has the most potential. I thought he was very good for the u18 last year. But he has been injured most of this season.

1-1 after 12 minutes. The mancs started far better, playing long balls through the middle and using their pace to really cause problems, and they scored a goal with ease, but LFC have come back with Canos going on a tremendous run down the right hand side, dribbled past two players, cut the ball back and Trickett-Smith passed it into the goal.

Grrrr, I spend half hour pissing about with flash for the tab only for the u18s game to be pulled last minute. Wtf?!

Griffin doesn't sound familiar. Did a bit of Googling - I suppose Griffin is Liam Griffin from the U-16s? Debut?

1-1 at HT. IMHO the Mancs seem over-coached. I've not seen a side at this level that always turns up with such an elaborate game plan, with an almost Aussie cricket team-style set of one v one tactics for particular opponents. I suppose it's very professional but it seems a bit excessive for this level, when surely the emphasis should be more on maximising potential rather than copying the big boys. Anyway, the game became pretty cagey after we equalised, although they're still playing long balls through the middle that their pacy forwards exploit. Canos' run was by far the highlight of the first half.

FT: 1-1.

A very scrappy second half. As I said, the mancs seem really too concerned to play ike a senior side - they even got booked for diving - but they've got some fast players so they often caused problems just racing on to long balls. I thought Trickett-Smith did well for us - a very versatile attacking player who can drop deep, link up well, change sides and also score goals. Chirivella had a poor game for him - the mancs seemed to have a game plan for him, using two players to close him down and a pacy forward running past to pick up the ball if he lost it - and it unnerved him a bit. Then one of their players absolutely walloped him near the end and he was lucky not to be injured.

John Aldridge: Harry Wilson is ‘perfect’ for Brendan Rodgers

[article=http://www.5times.co/john-aldridge-reds-youngster-harry-wilson-is-perfect-for-brendan-rodgers/]Having watched young Welshman Harry Wilson turn so many games for our U18s this season, he could be the next one to make the breakthrough from the youth ranks to the first team setup.

He has so much pace and direction and he’s just as quick with the ball as he is without it and that is a fantastic skill to have as a footballer, Brendan Rodgers will already be looking at him and the way he plays because he is perfect in any position in that front three, wide right, left or central in the same position as Coutinho. He is one to watch!

It’s been really encouraging to see youngsters that have shown promise get a promotion to Melwood to train with the first team, it’s something that wasn’t done enough under Gerard Houllier or Rafa Benitez. If they are playing well for the U18s or U21s why not get them involved with the likes of Stevie and Luis in the five-a-sides? They learn so much playing with them or against them – it’s invaluable and if they rise to the occasion they could end up there full time.

There is a strategy running throughout the club now, implemented by Brendan Rodgers and all our teams play the same way, just like Barcelona always have.

That is the way it should be and the balance is just right, there is pace throughout the teams, the passing is crisp, the movement and direction is spot-on and that is the reason the teams are firing so many goals. Ok, we concede and that is frustrating but you do want perfection.

From the first team perspective, this weekend break may have come at the wrong time, especially on the back of results we’ve been having recently.

We grinded out wins over Fulham, Swansea and Southampton – Sunderland after their cup final defeat might have been good opposition too, with respect.

What you want is momentum and to keep the pressure on, you don’t want games in hand clustered together because you are forced to play catch up.

Looking back to last weekend, Southampton was one of those fixtures where I didn’t fancy us, it was a tricky game and matches against them are notoriously hard – the win will hopefully give us a great platform.

One or two situations went our way, the turning point was that great save from Simon Mignolet, it was absolutely magnificent and we drew great strength from that.

I was pleased for Luis Suarez too, getting his name back on the score sheet again because as a goal scorer he will have an eye on the golden boot, I watched him closely against Swansea and he was snatching at things which wasn’t like him so scoring soon after was very important.

We haven’t had one of our players finish the season as the league’s top scorer for such a long time but he would thoroughly deserve it especially after missing the first six games, he’s been phenomenal.

Brendan Rodgers deserves credit for shuffling his pack at a crucial point in the game too, Philippe Coutinho has looked a bit jaded so to withdraw him when he did was the right decision and it was the first time I’ve been excited by a substitution for such a long time, Raheem has been brilliant recently and got us another important goal.

John Aldridge was speaking to LFCTV[/article]

Yeah, Wilson's looking a great prospect - hugely self-confident, very fast and direct but with a few tricks as well. Still early days though and plenty still to learn.

Speaking of Wilson - and yes, I agree with macca that his confidence is sky-high - the other lad that's been impressive is Ryan Kent. If I'm remembering correctly, I think Wilson's goal scoring prowess owes a fair bit to Kent linking up with him or supplying him as well.

On the other hand, I'm not quite sure about Ojo. He has some good footwork and ball skills, but he doesn't seem to influence a game as much as I think he should, given the hype around him when he arrived. He looks like he drifts through games. Is it just me who thinks this way? I don't catch as many U-18 games as I like, so maybe I've just been watching the ones he's been average in?

Yes, I agree with all of that. Kent is a clever young player and as you say he makes Wilson look good rather as Sinclair used to help Ibe. Ojo is very frustrating - plenty of time left for him but he does indeed drift in and out of games.

FA Youth Cup Qtr Final v Reading on LFCTV now

Crump, Randall, Jones, Williams, Maguire, Chirivella, Rossiter, Brannagan, Ojo, Wilson, Kent.
Subs: Hart, Firth, Canos, Cleary, Trickett-Smith

GTFI, pulled one back 2-2 in the last minute of the game....Rossiter what a f*cking gem you are, 16 year old, what energy to get into the box and equal it 2-2....Macguire and Ojo brilliantly combining with each other

Rossiter is a fantastic talent. Can see him getting a few minutes against Newcastle at the end of the season.
