Can't wait to see this kid on his competitive first team debut.

Echo: 'Rossiter has got what it takes'
5th Mar 2014

Jordan Rossiter has been described as a 'pleasure to work with' by Liverpool coach Alex Inglethorpe.

The 16-year-old served up a man-of-the-match display at Anfield on Monday night as the under-21's lost 2-1 to Reading.

Rossiter, one of the Academy's most promising players, earned a call-up to Brendan Rodgers' first-team squad in December for the Premier League game at Chelsea.

U21s boss Inglethorpe said Rossiter took the selection in his stride and has praised the way the Everton Valley lad has remained grounded despite his rapid rise through the ranks.

"I think the biggest compliment I can pay Jordan is that he was exactly the same when he came back to the U21 squad," Inglethorpe said.

"That's where he sets his standards every day and it is easy for him to go to Melwood because that's how he trains all the time.

"He doesn't necessarily have to look to up his game because he always shows 100 per cent effort and commitment."

Inglethorpe added: "He's getting better all the time. He's a pleasure to work with and is someone who dedicates himself and works ever so hard. He listens and learns and I don't think there will be many first-year scholars who play a full season in the under-21s. That is some achievement."

The young Reds were hoping to close the gap on U21 Premier League leaders Fulham this week.

Despite levelling the game through Jordan Lussey's effort just before the break, Liverpool were undone nine minutes from time when Reading struck again.

Inglethorpe's side came into the game brimming with confidence having thumped Wolves 4-0 last week but the manager says they were missing the same killer instinct on Monday.

"We just lacked a cutting edge," he told the ECHO. "I thought we played better on Monday night then we did against Wolves but we just had a good 10 or 15-minute spell in that game where it clicked for us.

"But on Monday, crosses didn't quite go in, we didn't have the domination in the areas we've had in previous games but also fair play to Reading. They were a bit more experienced than us and had a few first-team players and lads who have been in and around the League and they had a few debuts under their belts. That probably, in the end, told a little bit."

Striker Jerome Sinclair and full-back Jordan Williams were making their first starts at U21 level on Monday night and Inglethorpe was keen to stress the relative inexperience of his side.

"Our team was very young and we've been young from day one," he said.

"Jerome Sinclair is a first-year scholar, he's only 17, Jordan Rossiter is a scholar, Jordan Williams is a scholar, Lloyd Jones is a scholar and Pedro Chirivella is a scholar as well. And sometimes we forget how young these boys are and that they still have plenty of time to develop.

"There is a big thing is that you have to recognise. Of course we want to win every game but if we were desperate to win every single game then Ryan McLoughlin, Michael Ngoo, Jack Robinson, Andre Wisdom, Jordan Ibe and Connor Coady wouldn't be on loan.

"What we are desperate to do is provide a pathway and a career for our young players here and with every player that goes out and given League exposure, it is a feather in the cap for the U21s."

The U21s are back in action on Friday night when they travel to face West Ham (7pm).

from long long time, I have not heard about Pelosi apart from his tweets in between which suggest that he is still alive, does any of the expert here have any idea about him

Think he's now close to returning from a very bad leg break he suffered about a year ago. Going to be a long way back for him I'm afraid.

thanks Peter, so desperately want him to come good for us or least make a bright career somewhere else, always have a soft spot for players who get unfortunately injured at young age

No expert here, but he broke his leg about the same time Brad Smith tore his ACL. Both seemed to be about on the same recovery path but somehow Pelosi hasn't made it back yet. Can only assume he's needing more time to get fixed. We did have him sign an extension back in Nov last year while he was still doing rehab for his injury, so I can only think we're pretty confident he'll be okay.

Kinda old news, but don't seem to have seen it posted here. Got this from Goal.com but not sure if it's reliable - apparently we're interviewing Chelsea's Academy No. 2 Jim Fraser for the post vacated by McParland:

The Merseysiders have interviewed Jim Fraser, the academy No.2 at Stamford Bridge, for the vacant post of academy director at Anfield following the sacking of Frank McParland

Liverpool have held talks with Chelsea youth chief Jim Fraser about taking charge of the club’s academy, Goal can reveal.

Anfield manager Brendan Rodgers, who knows Fraser from his own time in the Stamford Bridge youth set-up, recommended his former colleague for the vacant post on Merseyside.

Frank McParland was surprisingly sacked as Liverpool’s academy director in November, with the club stating they wanted to move in a new direction.

Goal understands that Fraser has been interviewed by Liverpool chiefs about succeeding McParland but he has not yet been offered the job.

Fraser has risen through the ranks at Stamford Bridge since joining from Swindon Town in 2004, and is currently academy director Neil Bath’s No.2 in the Chelsea academy.

Fraser oversees the age-group coaches from Under-9s to Under-16s level and is head of recruitment for Under-15s to Under-19s.

There is currently a void at Liverpool’s academy base in Kirby following the double-sacking of McParland and former academy technical director Rodolfo Borrell in November.

The pair had been credited with helping to kick-start the conveyor belt of talent from Kirby to the first-team squad at Melwood in recent years.

Raheem Sterling, Jon Flanagan and Martin Kelly established themselves in the senior set-up during McParland’s reign, while Jordan Ibe, Jack Robinson, Suso, Andre Wisdom, Adam Morgan, Conor Coady and Jerome Sinclair also made the leap from the Academy to the Liverpool first team.

McParland was appointed the new director of football at League One side Brentford two weeks after leaving Anfield.

U21's v Wolves live on LFCTV now

Mersin, Sama, Maguire, Paez, Jones, Rossiter, Dunn, Lussey, Bijev, Brannagan, Peterson
Subs. Sokolik, Firth, Chirivella, Williams, Sinclair.

Marc Pelosi was out with the team during the warm-ups doing sprints. Been out over a year.

thanks rico, missed reading that post...hopefully he will be back to his best

I think McLaughlin was highly rated and even more than Kelly and Flano...if he is able to get some consistent game time without injury, I hope he will be our next Gleno or probably even better than him
Not really Kelly and Flanagan had already made their debuts for the first team at McLaughlin's age. McLaughlin is some way off their level a lot of which has ti do with the bad year of injuries he had had. He was developing nicely before that.

weren't we supposed to let Mersin go? Seems to be the best keeper in the reserves.

Lucas is getting into the game a lot more. Jordan Williams having a stinker imo. Not too many positives other than Sakho and Lucas getting a few minutes to build up their fitness.

Peterson shot deflected off the arse of Jack Dunn into the net. 1-0 Liverpool! Only way I could have seen us scoring tbf.

how good can dunn be?
Difficult to tell imo.
He's currently not being played in his natural position due to us having no available strikers or good strikers.
On current ability I don't see him making the step up to the first team.
I guess you're always looking for players who are playing above their level. He just isn't atm.
