The way I view it is..

You will never agree with everyone on a public forum, otherwise it would be a boring place.

If you ban Ross and Dantes, in time, they will be replaced by another one or two.

Just like after Brendan left, Dantes cranked up a gear.

Better to just skip over, or put those posters on ignore, if it's getting to you.

Scm has always worked on giving people a chance to right wrongs - from mods to "regular" posters. It has worked sometimes, it hasnt others. It may not be the best way, or your way etc, to fix things - or improve the site- but as of now, its ours.

If it needs changing, just like us mods, it will be done accordingly.

(Also, you can put them on ignore too if you have no patience to deal with their opinions/approach)

I can only speak for myself but I’m hoping one mod will feel progressive & brave and just give Ross at least the temporary boot to see how the site responds in his absence. If it starts picking up again, you know it’s the right decision. If it remains the same then maybe he’s not the root cause.

Quite. I don't think Ross realises that the insults he is seeing are a culmination of him giving it out for years. By the same reckoning I've politely asked that everyone draws a line under it - people have carried on throwing insults. Posters can't moan about mods not doing their "role". It's a thankless task.

We've banned posters and been accused of going OTT, we've let things go and been accused of being too soft. Binomial was given a month breather and we were wrong. We can't win. Some folk want a lenient free for all, yet suddenly seem all too aware of the rules when it effects them.

This for me is the crux of the issue. Hyper-personal insults, bringing in information on posters gained from outside the forum and threats of legal action.

Great to see that from this point forward that is the line for banning - you (the mods) will have wide ranging support for enforcing that.

He's really not, which is why we've tried to speak to him both ways this week - amicably and less so when he's clearly not defused the situation. He's had personal messages too from Mods. But it works both ways. If people want action, then it really doesn't help when we're asking EVERYONE to calm the fuck down, but posters are continuing to goad Ross with insults.

We're trying to talk to Ross and others to tell them the reality of the situation and where this is going, that becomes an impossible task when posters are clearly making the case more difficult by carrying on posting insults. If we're trying to justify our actions to Ross and others, how can we do that when people are insulting him in this thread?

And I'm not comparing one set of insults to the behaviour I outlined earlier about bringing in personal lives and such. But it's not helping is it? If us Mods are so shit and useless, it's because people take the piss and don't help us by doing what we've asked.
